Baptism Questions??

This forum tends to get me thinking about things from the past and then roll my eyes.

I was recalling a particular Pharasee in the congregation who used to love showing everyone how "smart" he was.

When i would go over the questions with someone, we would fly through them because it was usually with kids who were raised as JW's and could answer then in their sleep. (Besides the fact it was an "OPEN BOOK" quiz.)

Well, Mr Pharasee used to always make it into a marathon session and take 2-3 hours to go over one section of the questions with someone.

He could take a simple question like "What is God's Name?" and turn it into a 30 minute lecture. I remember one guy BOMBED out on the baptism questions with this moron because he didn't like the answer he got on a question. The poor sap had to wait another year to get baptised.

That got me thinking - were all of the baptisms in the bible null and void because they didnt go over the questions with 3 elders? - LOL

I can see Jesus approaching John the Baptizer and John saying "well, Jesus that is commendable. Let me get three of my disciples together and we can go over the questions." Once that is done, your father in the heavens can send his spirit down and say "this is my son the beloved whom I, along with the other 3 have approved"

Ya know? It's funny how we overlooked those small details to life inside of this borg that should have been wake up calls to begin with. Looking back, it is very weird how you have to qualify for baptism inside of this cult and still have to undergo a 2 question final exam to pass.

Excuse um wa - but is there ANYTHING in the bible to indicate that you have to pass an SAT exam to get baptised?

Biblically speaking, all one needs to be baptized is believe that Jesus is the son of God, that he died for us and was ressurected and is at the right hand of God.

A person is baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, NOTHING and NO ONE else.

The water in a baptisim is purely symbolic as it is the HS that truly baptizes.

Those that argue immerson over what not are missing the POINT of a baptizim and of what/who is doing the actual baptizim ( the Holy Spirit).

As Christians we are baptized on Christ, not "john's baptism", Chirst baptisim, by the Holy Spirit and in the name of God, Jesus and the HS.

It's because a jw baptism isn't really anything to do with faith in Jesus - it's a baptism of loyalty to The Borg. They ask the questions because want to make sure you are sufficiently brainwashed by their twisted beliefs before you are dunked in the name of The Father, The Son and The Organisation.

You guys know the whole point of the quiz is to see if you've been indoctrinated. If you pass, you get baptized. If you fail, then you need to study more Watchtower publications until you are in unity with the organization. Another thing, you can't get the answers right by studying the Bible on its own. You have to know the doctrines that the Watchtower teaches.

Only the 1985 questions have the person say yes to being one of jehovahs witnesses in association with the Organization. What does that mean for all those who were baptized before that year?

Baptismal questions from the August 1, 1966 Watchtower, p. 465:

    (1) Have you recognized yourself before Jehovah God as a sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation proceeds from him, the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ?

    (2) On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for salvation, have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to God to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through Jesus Christ and through the Bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit?

Baptismal questions from the May 15, 1970 Watchtower, p. 309:

    (1) Have you recognized yourself as a sinner and needing salvation from Jehovah God? And have you acknowledged that this salvation proceeds from him and through his ransomer, Christ Jesus?

    (2) On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for redemption have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to Jehovah God, to do his will henceforth as that will is revealed to you through Christ Jesus and through God's Word as his holy spirit makes it plain?

Baptismal questions from the May 1, 1973 Watchtower, p. 280:

    (1) Have you repented of your sins and turned around, recognizing yourself before Jehovah God as a condemned sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation proceeds from him, the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ?

    (2) On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for salvation, have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to God to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through Jesus Christ and through the Bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit?

The newest baptismal questions, from the June 1, 1985 Watchtower:

    (1) On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?

    (2) Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?
