So brohter (not elder or anything but many years active) had to give talk this week. Talk related to how Jehovah gives abilities to people thru the spirit. Started off with the mention of how God told Moises to build the tent and gave people the abilities to work wood, stone, etc. He then went on to mention the amount of work that goes on the publishing work, finalizing with the new TV broadcasting, etc. One of his quotes mentioned how the society launched their first website in 1997, to provide publications , etc. He forgot that in 1997, watchtower.org was nothing more than a placeholder. It had nothing in it. He also forgot to mention how the internet was demonized for many years. Oh poor brother, he is a bit old after all. May be losing his memory. -

My prediction has been (and I wrote briefly about it in another old thread) that this new craze of JWdotORG is a transitional move. One that will serve two purposes.
1) separate themselves from the old WT style approach
2) pave the way for a new teaching. One that can not, in any way, be justified with simply "new light". JW will not longer stand for Jehovah bur rather Jesus' Witnesses. Any dumb ass can read the bible, believer or not, and realize that is the center of the new testament.

So my 11 year old kid comes up today during breakfast and tells me...
My friends at school are playing this new game. They balance a pencil over something else and then they put a paper under the pencil with the words "YES" and "NO". They then ask "Charlie, Charlie, are you in the room?". Then pencil will then move to answer the question and if he is in the room, he will answer any questions you have.
All in the mean time, I was preparing my answer to my kid, thinking I was going to have to remove the scare
Kid continues: Grandma told me that I need to stay away from those kids. That is I even seat too close to them, something is going to happen to me that is going to make me kill myself or others. Like a daemon will posses me.
(Some pause. I am almost ready to open my mouth)
Then kid goes: But I am not scared about that. How would it be possible for the ghost to answer "NO" (as in I am not in the room) if he really isn't there? That's a lie
That's when I knew everything was ok. I told them that reminded me of the times we've gone in field service, knock on a door and then hear the parents yell from the back to their kids "Tell them we are not home!!"
From the mouth of babes!

How Much Do Circuit Overseers Make Under the Table, and is it Taxable?
by Tazemanian-devil ini was thinking about green handshakes, and i knew my wife and i personally would try to slide at least $100 each c.o visit to the c.o.
if we were low on cash, we'd never hand him less than $20.
how many of such handshakes does he receive in a weeks time?

The question isn't so much as to how much they make, but as to how much MORE they makes vs what they spend. This people have very little expenses. In the grand scheme of things, we can pretty much consider them expense-less. They are fed almost everyday when in assignment, which is pretty much every day of every week. They don't pay rent or mortgage. As far as I know, in our circuit, brothers and sisters rotate in doing the cleaning of the house as well as the yard work. I think the only expense I know they have here is their clothing and whatever little thing they bring into the house. Like decorations, some furniture, etc. -

The Crappy piano music Replacement has begun
by 1tMakesNoSence inim typing this while i'm sitting on the toilet in the kingdom hall to just skip a few seconds of the mumbling.
they read a letter just now they have started to replace the kingdom melodies with the orchestral versions.
all and all to make it look and sound better to the people outside.. id have to say though, that piano music sucks measuring up to church music.

I remember many years ago I asked why the difference. Why was it that the assemblies songs were different from the KH songs. I was told specifically by one of the elders that because the group was smaller, it was easier to follow a single piano music, and that way you could read the notes on the book (like everyone is a music teacher). I guess that explanation is out the window. -

Video based indoctrination for children
by StarTrekAngel inlast night at the meeting we watched the "jehovah will help you be bold" video.
just another piece of propaganda to get children to recruit other children.
i was just reading another thread discussing the other video (where they guilt trip kids to give money) and i recalled a something from the video we watched last night.

Soon they will say they pioneered, or even invented, the technologies that gave way to the existence of the internet. -

No. What they are doing is showing that they no longer care about the adults. The future is being forged right now, in the young minds. They know the old ones would not leave easily. Too much invested. Too much dissonance. They know most of the walking out is happening in the younger generations. They are creating brand loyalty. Just like Mrs Lappe said in her videos. Is an investment in futures. -

I don't think that bitterness is the problem. The problem is when your own enemy re defines your motivation to fight back as bitterness and points everyone else arounds you to see it as a defect. All of these quotes that are thrown around on the internet have an enormous amount of truth in them. The problem is they are also abused with the purpose of manipulating others. Picture the following...
Scenario 1) Nelson Mandela walks out free and as he does, he flips the bird to everyone at the jail. While this is a bit of an exaggeration, this is what I would define as bitterness. Simply because it does nothing for your cause. They probably deserved the bird but it does not free all of the others that suffered his same fate.
Scenario 2) Nelson Mandela walks out free and as he does, he smiles and tells everyone in the jail, including his guards and captors that he loves them and that they don't really know what they are being forced to do. He also adds that he will spread the word of truth so that no one has to suffer the same fate as he did. All out of pure concern for fellow humans. Upon finding this out, his captors follow right behind him telling every eye witness, that he is doing this out of bitterness. Telling them that to imitate his attitude would result on them suffering the same fate. Telling everyone not to listen to him because what happened to him was his own fault and that he was free to leave whenever he wanted to and no one held a gun to his head to make him stay.
The second scenario is the closest thing to the WTBTS and the very definition of a bully. I know also because my 11 year old daughter is going thru this at school at this very moment.

by goingthruthemotions ini find it hard sometimes to get a good idea has to how to communicate with my wife when it come to this stupid cult.. she is born in and stopped attending for many years and got baptized later in life.
i truely believe she suffers from cognitive dissonance and other things this stupid cult causes.. here is a breakdown of what i gather to be where she is mentally.. * she calls the borg her faith.
here are actions that she does that go against her thoughts:.

I am pretty much in the same boat as you. My wife is in the same situation. She calls it "her faith" but she does not fully practice it. Marginal believers are harder to understand than hard line JWs. She can say that there is wrong in the org and we should concentrate in the good and, in a whim, say that is not ok to go to any church even when all churches have something good. The first thing I did was stop questioning her intelligence. Not even think about it. If you do so, eventually you will make it evident and she will be very offended. After all, is not her intelligence speaking, is the cult personality. The cult personality is not intelligent, but she sure is.
They are right about steering her to do something else. Even if it doesn't fill her entire time (although that would be ideal). One of the first things I did (she keeps on telling me "her faith" keeps the bitch in her calmed) was complementing her when she curses. I tell her she sounds sexy when she curses (she actually does so point for me there). Plus, like almost every woman, she has self image issues and so telling her that she is sexy is a big plus. Lets make it clear, I've always thought she is sexy, I am not making this up.
After that, I realized she kept on looking for drink recipes online but she never really tried them. So one Friday I went out and bought a couple of bottles, some ingredients and even got a set of glasses. We've got drunk a couple of times only but we are making it a weekend thing to make drinks, before or after dinner. I have to admit that it was a good idea for both of us. In between this and some pressure at work, drinking has been a pretty good relaxer.
She had also stop going to field service pretty much when I did. However, I do know that she wants to be there. She asked me if my research had shown me that I did not need to preach (since it seems so clear to her that we should do it) and I said I was not sure yet but that the WT teaches that is ok to put your belief on hold while you clear doubts. She has not attended FS since and has not attempted to talk me into going. We've been late to pretty much every meeting and I make sure not to show up around her when she is getting ready (she thinks that as "hurry, we are late").
In other words, and as the books says, attempt to bring out the old personality on her. The pre-cult personality. Take obvious chances but don't be pushy. We have not had a religious discussion for a couple of months now and we are doing great. However, after this last Sunday study I started looking for a chance to ask her what she thought of it. Turns out my 4 year old girls is very outspoken and has already said that she hates going to the hall, that is boring. So last week, after coming back from a long day at work, we laid down in bed. I looked at her and she said "lets get ready". So I repeated what my daughter said (I hate the Jehovah! is so boring!). She smiled and then thanked me for going anyway. Having this nice open moment, I took the chance and asked her. So we had a brief discussion of what I thought were the implications of this new understanding. I did not push anything on her but ended my statement with the questions "Do you not think this new understanding completely destroys the foundation for the authority of the F&DS?" I did not expect or asked for an answer.
I can not wait for this book study to end. It is my understanding that we will be studying the kingdom book next. I can not wait to get to the parts where they explain their organizational structure and the "overlapping generation". I think I am going to have a field day with that one.
