Phone call from a brother last night
by label licker inthe brother and his wife thought the statement at the end of this month's broad cast show was a little off.
the org stated that jehovah's organisation can not be corrupted.
(needless to say only three had shown up for the broadcast meeting at the hall) he's never heard that before so we filled him in as to what the org has been up to and gave him jwnet, jw facts as well as jw survey to look at.

Protect governing body with your life
by Zoos inthere was a quote in the literature some years back about protecting the governing body from secular authorities and insinuated that we should do whatever it took to insure their safety.. i seem to remember it was something about refusing to help the authorities locate the governing body.
i may be off track here.
if this is familiar to you could you please help me find the quote?.

I don't remember seeing anything in writing but I do recall of several meeting over the years. The subject was usually brought up around studies that touched on the subject of our loyalty, both to our brothers as well as those taking the lead. Some elders would always make sure to include a comment where we would be told what to say to the authorities that were looking for the elders. That is how I first learned that we were all, technically speaking, ordained ministers. -

"Your bad attitude is evident, because you don't bring a meeting bag to the meetings anymore!"
by stuckinarut2 inyes friends.....this is the comment said to me by an elder!.
"your bad attitude is evident because you don't bring your meeting bag anymore!".
i calmly replied: "but everything i need is on the tablet now......".

This seems to be more common than I thought. About a year ago, all baptized publishers in my cong were called to a meeting. I happened to "qualify" to attend at the time. There was an assembly coming up and they decided to review some items related to the assembly but also others related to the cong itself. One of such topics was the assignments of privileges. One of the simplest ones, mic handling, was brought up and it was shocking to hear how one would qualify to handle the mic. The conversation went something like this.
Meeting conductor (elder): In order to qualify and honor Jehovah, what qualities should a man demonstrate in order to be considered for the privileges.
brother raises hand: He must be an exemplary christian
Elder: That is correct. How do we know if he is an exemplary christian?
another brother raises hand: He lives his life by bible principles (so far so good)
Elder: But how would someone know if this person was rightfully appointed by christian principles, if he is walking around the KH handling the microphone. How would someone know that he was rightfully appointed.
Brother raises hand: His magazine would be underlined, showing that he prepared for the meeting.
In my mind I was thinking.. so its ok if he steals, beat up his wife and kids, and has an affair at work. So long his magazine is underlined.
That was the last time I ever prepared for a WT study. I had never handled the mic up to that point. As soon as I stopped actually preparing and made sure to use bright colorful highlights on the pages, I was then offered the "privilege". Once I prove it to myself, I stopped highlighting and FS and the privilege went out the door in as little as two meetings.
I am a much happier individual now.

Just bumped into this...
by StarTrekAngel inthis is a phrase taken from the current wt magazine being studied.
someone already took it and ran with it, posting it as a banner in a pro-jw site called "i am proudly a jw".
it's in spanish, but you can look it up in the english version of the mag.

Thanks Cap. The spanish version makes it clear that he would think about "his job". Comments from the brothers last Sunday were surrounding that idea. "How would you feel if you were "demoted" from traveling overseer to chicken overseer" -

Disgusting...
The Spanish version was translated differently. In my opinion as a native Spanish speaker, and if translated from Spanish to English, it would have sound like "Listen, you little speck of dust. Who do you think you are?". Also, the previous phrases leading to that statement, in Spanish again, go more like thins... "Whenever I felt I deserved a better job, I would take myself to a corner.."

New KH design announcement?
by StarTrekAngel inhas there been any official announcement made regarding the new kh design?
i am asking because i know some publishers on my cong that already seen the pics from elders who attended the presentation.

Also made me wonder how long would it be before they have to dedicate a section of the meeting (local needs?) to tell people they are too distracted looking out the window. Let not fool you, the windows will help. Whenever you said or do something incorrect, they will tell you and you will argue. In turn, they will remind you that you probably do not know the new teaching because you were distracted by the window. You get no choice but to believe such thing was said. -

Conversation with my mother-in-law this morning
by StarTrekAngel ini am skipping the details on how we got to this point.
conversation was calmed and pleasant and while i know she is not the most educated person (she can hardly read), its hard to justify it by saying is a matter of ignorance.
it is definitely something inside her that triggers on that very moment.. me: i don't know where all the money is going.

Me: I don't know where all the money is going. We use to pay $2500 for a 3 day assembly. We know pay $12,000 for a single day, meeting in a place of our own.
Her: Yeah, its weird, people don't donate as much anymore
Me: Yes, I know that is probably true. What I am really questioning is not how much people give, but rather how is it possible that is costs so much
Her: It seems like people reason that because the place is ours, we don't have to contribute.
Me: But if they built the place on free labor, and with donated funds, how is it that it costs 3 times as much as before, when we rented places we did not own.
Her: And the funny thing is that we all like to go out and buy new dresses for each assembly, instead of putting the money where it really matters.
Me: No, but that is not what I meant. Remember, we use to rent the school stadium. We have gone as far as renting the astrodome in Houston and it never costed that much. If they can rent the place for that amount, how is it that it costs us more to rent our own place that we built with donated funds
Her: May be is because is a whole 3 days.
Me: No, that is how much is costing for a single day assembly. Is way more than what a 3 day use to cost.
Her: All I know is that I make my contribution. Jehovah knows if the others are contributing or not...
Then I realized I was late for work....
The end.

Someone needs to show the other party on this lawsuit that he is ok to raise the flag if the job demands it. As per WT policy. See Chile's example. -

What Things Did You Not Talk About as a JW?
by minimus inyou have to lead a secret life as a jw.
you're not supposed to over drink, go to night clubs, enjoy worldly concerts, etc.....sex, though is really taboo.
you could never freely talk about your sex life.

There is a sister in my cong that has (or at least had) a tendency to bring up touchy subjects during field service. I know because my wife has told me. When on FS with a group of only women, she would start asking questions like, who do you think is the most handsome at the hall. That was the ice breaker, she would then move on, especially if alone with my wife, and ask if we had oral sex. My wife would tell her we did and did so freely. She then went on to confess that she did but felt terrible about it. That whenever her and her husband fell for the temptation, they did it and then cried out after they were done. She then try to convince my wife that we were doing wrong and told her we really needed to pray about it. My wife did not pay much attention to her and realized that she was a personification of misery looking for company. I feel for them, because no one has a right to make them so miserable.
In our case, we do and talk about anything. While my wife and I disagree on religious matters (we still attend meeting together though), we are open to talk about anything together. We've gambled in Vegas, we've gotten drunk together. Pretty much anything goes. We have a lot of fun together so long we don't discuss the org. Funny how that works, because in actions she is not as hardline as in words.

conventions, kingdom halls, relief funds, and other financial scams and schemes of jehovahs witnesses.
jehovahs witnesses often note that at their meetings (like church services), they dont pass a collection plate.

Ok, Steve2, may be the pic is a bit exaggerated, but is not far from the truth. Anyone who would refute that picture with another picture, will probably post one of those worthy of their song book. I been there many times and that pictures does not look foreign to me. Its actually missing the afternoon nappers. May be a I tend to look around too much.
In another hand, the article reads "... as it helps no one to have these buildings sitting empty...". There is an Assembly Hall in La Feria, TX. New, no more than 3 years old if memory serves me right. 5 million dollars laters, it sat empty the entire summer of 2014. My cong was assigned to an international convention in Houston, so no one thought much of it. I know someone at my work who was assigned to go to Houston as well, but his was not international. There was absolutely no need to have them drive and pay hotels. In the other hand, this area is full of illegal immigrants. I would risk to say that a good half of the congos around are made up of illegal residents from latin america. They are not able to travel out of the area without their documents. They could not make it to Houston or anywhere else. I asked some of the brothers about their assembly and they said there was nothing for them. I went to the JW site and found no assemblies scheduled for that hall for 2014 and early 2015.
I guess Jehovah forgot some brothers behind when he scheduled and provided the arrangements for the 2014 assemblies. Despite having neglected them all of these years when the assembly hall did not exist.
