Not saying that the CO's don't have a tough job.

But a LOT of people work their A$$ off every day, week... month - and have NOTHING to show for it.

Actually, most people that I know are in debt and even further - have zero net worth, even if they sold their home.

Being a CO is kind of like working on a cruise ship.

If you can can your food, clothing and room taken care of... and you can walk off with your "green handshakes" - you're doing well.

Not to say there aren't levels of how well they do... but zero bills and $200 at the end of the week ain't bad.

What is the financial cost to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses?

has anyone ever figured out what the cost is to be an average active jw?

i am thinking of the jw costume of clothes for the whole family & drycleaning.

the four door sedans, the fuel, repairs, and auto cleaning up costs after running a shuttle service at least serveral times a week.

I don't think it's really as much as you would think.

For almost ten years, both me and my then wife served as regular pioneers.

Clothes? It's a wash. Really - guys need 2 suits, a sport coat and some shirts. Girls need maybe 3 new dresses a year. Really not much difference than "worldly" people who need to keep up with the latest fashions. Plus... most of your meeting clothes doubles as work clothes.

The Conventions? Yeah... you have the drive and the hotel room. But that doubled as your "vacation."

The Field Service gas - lets face it - you're really carpooling and the average JDub with 10 hours a month - drives what? One Saturday afternoon a month?

Probably the biggest expense is your actual time - going to meetings and the actual hours of doing field service.

Me and my then wife pioneered for about 10 years.

I think for every year that we pioneered... that we had a net loss of about $10,000.

We worked our a$$ off with both pioneering and working our jobs - and after we stopped - we ended up with about $90,000 in debt.

But back then, if I could "buy" a year worth of pioneering for $5,000 - I'd do it.

We both pioneered and we didn well - but I do estimate that we went in the hole $10,000 each year.

Also...

Now imagine all the new ball sucking that will go on.

Before, at least you can be somewhat of a maverick hoping that the CO would come into town and recongnize that you don't play politics and fight to appoint you MS or Elder.

Now the game is all local. You piss off the local powers that be and your screwed.

Just fantastic points in this thread.

Just imagine all the politics that will go on between now and 2011.

CO's that step down or retire - they are like disposed dictators. A king without a country.

I'd be interested to see what their job will be like for the next few years.

No one sucking up to them? No more slipping the $$ in envelopes?

I understand what you're saying.

And if anyone one is wheelchair bound here, I don't mean to sound condescending.

My point being, I don't think that I have to have a "mission" to save people.

When I was a devout Witness - I felt that I was "saved."

And now that I know the truth about the WT, I still feel "saved."

I guess my point was, I know that it was a crushing feeling to see the "man behind the curtain" so to speak.

If someone needs that "hold on" so to speak - I guess I pity them.

I know that I was wheelchair bound, I know that I would need something to hold on to.

Christopher Reeves for years, just needed that belief that Stem Cell research would bring the cure.

I think if someone went up to him and said, "Dude... just face the facts, you're Stem Cell research to cure you is 3 generations at best.

Wow... I think that would be devistating.

But to say that Wheelchair bound person - doesn't dream about walking? That those pictures that of the WT that ANY DAY NOW, that he's going to just burst out of that chair?

No way. I wasn't saying that he was sub human, but to destroy hope?

Today on Neil Bortz Show (talk radio)...

His last caller was a Bible Thumper.

And I'm all cool with that, but Bortz ripped into her.

But before he did, he said, "How old are you?"

Like the lady sounded like she was 14.

So the lady said she was 50 and so Bortz said, "Ok... if you were 16 - I would give you a pass, but because you're 50 - you're free game."

Not that I'm siding with Bortz. But point is - I think there are people that you just let be.

Ok... enough said about that for now.

So... today, I ran into one of the friends from the KH who is wheelchair bound.

He invited me to the KH.

But in my opinion (and I invite yours...) - I think he gets a pass.

What am I supposed to say to him? Hey... by the way, al the stuff we've learned is false?

If you read my old posts, some of the friends that approach me are free game.

But a brother in a wheelchair? I feel like I'm beating up on him if I tell him how I feel.

in the last decade or so we seen a fairly consistent trend of the society being prepared to fiddle with and drop certain date-based interpretations.

this has been the result of the march of time simply painting them into a corner and revealing more of these old esoteric date-based prophecies to be false or in need of major adjustment.

gb anthony morris gave the final talk on friday's 2007 follow the christ dc.

in the talk he gives reasons for the r&f to trust the fds specifically the gb.. the talk is nauseating, but shows how desperate the gb has become.

they're losing control of the r&f and they know it.. jwd member booby originally posted this speech on the "gb solidifies ownership" thread.

I know Tony pretty well. He's a good guy.

But the thing with this... you could have this same talk - but exchange governing body with the Mormon Governing Body.

Afterall, aren't they BLESSED also? Look at THEIR Growth. You could brag on their growth all day long.

The thing is - 10 years ago, this talk would have scared the bejezus out of me.

But it's pretty scarry NOW to see how the governing body steps in to the place of Jesus himself.

I agree with you 150%.

More than you know.

My thought on it is that we do need a band-aid.

5go is right. Drilling in ANWAR is a band-aid.

But we need it right now.

It's not the total answer, but it's getting that bad that we need something.

Here's something thought... those Middle Eastern countries? Can't remember which one it was - but I'm sure they all do this...

But one of them has a "full govermental department" that does nothing but invest for the day where their oil runs dry.

The day will come where there's no more oil, and those countries out there are taking their profits and trying to figure out what is next.

But in reality?

We're F*cked... The solution is to cash out and get what we can personally. Save your money and pass it on to your kids.

There will always be the rich and poor. Jesus even said that the poor will always be amongst us.
