My first thought when I heard this was how are they going to prove anything? Mind you shunning (does this really happen for minors) would be provable I guess. Instilling fear of armageddon would also be provable but would the courts want to get into the area of religious beliefs?

Emotional cruelty law considered in the UK.
by nicolaou in"the (uk) government is considering whether to introduce a new offence of emotional cruelty to children, it has been confirmed.
the proposed change to neglect laws in england and wales would see parents who deny their children affection face prosecution for the first time.. mr williams's bill would add a further category of harm for which the perpetrator could be punished: impairment of "physical, intellectual, emotional, social or behavioural development".
i'd like to hear from mr paul gillies or any other watchtower representative in the uk as to how they'd square this proposed new legislation with their doctrine of disfellowshipping minors.

Same sex marriage legalised in the UK at midnight tonight!!!
by DuvanMuvan intitle pretty much explains it all.
lots of people are getting married at midnight tonight.. what do you guys think?
maybe if anyone gets called on by a jw this weekend you can ask them what they think about it.. im just glad because it shows that religion doesn't define our conscience, that basic human decency can prevail over time and hopefully, these types of gradual but big changes will be present in the wts too in the future .

I feel the same about it as I do about gay driving. It's not an issue that should concern anyone.

Could they walk any slower on the ministry(tm)?
by punkofnice ini was out in my car this saturday as i went to visit my friend.. i saw the jws scattered about mooching down the streets.. i arrived home in a different area to where my friend lives.
as i opened my door there was an invitation to the mock the christ ritual.
a group of jws mooched past my house, looked at me rather lethargically and carried on mooching along.. considering they don't know i'm an 'apostate(tm)', they certainly were in no hurry to beg me to come to their mock the christ charade considering that if i don't go jar-hoover will lovingly murder me soon (subject to overlapping(tm) ).. i know we had 'the pioneer walk(tm)' back in the day but puh-leeeeeeeze!

I recall a year or so back seeing a youngish lady moving at an incredibly slow pace along our street. I felt sorry for her, assuming that she must be suffering from some terrible debilitating disease. However she was then caught by her colleague who was moving slightly faster, like a sloth under sedation. It was then that I saw the magazines in their hands and the light dawned. I didn't answer the door.

Weren't the Swiss neutral in WWII?
The main problem for JWs in the Swiss army wouldn't be the risk of fighting, it would be the risk of being drafted into the Swiss Guard to protect the Pope at the Vatican.

Brethren
by manda63 ingot approached by a brethren the other day who started to engage me in conversation about christianity i thought at first that he was a gb witness but turned out not when i explained to him that i thought he was one he said no no not one of those that lie and decieve he represented a true religion that only those that follow will get ever lasting life etc they apparently stick to first century teachings and when i said followers of the governing body also claim this so he explained how they differ;.
brethren - 1/ clergy dont lie about not having paid clergy as they actually dont have paid clergy the only exception being missionary`s who are sponsored.
2/ neck ties-not worn as they are pagan.

Well, I applaud them for reading the bible in full, but numbers 2 and 3 give the game away - they are seriously wacko. I wonder how many of them use SatNavs and don't realise that that device is a computer?

Neuro-biology has made great strides in recent years. All the evidence indicates that we think of as us, our conscious experience, is the product of electro-chemical activity in our brains. When the brain stops working, so do we. I've no reason to suppose there will be any after-life and I'm basing this life on the assumption that there isn't.

Lies taught by the GB about ....Life, Worldy people & apostates
by williamhconley inthe governing body not only lies to it's members about their true history but also about life itself, worldly people and former members.. here are some of those lies that come to my mind.. .
"jw's are the happiest people on earth" -.
fact: depression, anxiety, fear of punishment, paranoia, is what jw's live with every day.

Are these genuine claims that the WT has made? Some are plausible, but surely not these two:
4. "Reading the WT publications for 1 year is equivalent to a 4 yr college education".
8. "Worldly girls want to seduce you because you're a JW"
These are so ridiculous they can't be true.

A medieval question for you, if you believe in god....
by snare&racket inmany ancient believers of god used cognition to 'think' their way from belief to atheism.
what initially seems a silly question to reason over, can actually destroy a whole theology.. here is a question made famous by 'saint' thomas aquinas, believers in a almighty god with unlimited ability, please have a think about this..... the omnipotence paradox:.
"could an omnipotent being create a stone so heavy that even he could not lift it?

Island Man - completely agree. My Catholic schoolteachers fully accepted that omnipotence did not mean that God was totally unbounded, it was more that God could do anything he chose to do. I recall one example they used was that God could not make something that was both entirely white and entirely black, but he would have no reason or desire to do so, having himself created the laws of the universe which made such a thing impossible.
I'm an atheist too but I don't think arguments of this nature are going to dissuade believers.

Can god see into the future?
by DuvanMuvan inthis is something that's been bothering me for a while.. if god could see into the future, why has he allowed so many bad things to happen?
for example in the garden of eden.
he should have known from the beginning what would happen.if there was even the tiniest chance that they'd eat the fruit then god obviously didn't think it would be benefical to, idk, prevent it from happening?

End of Mysteries - genuine question (not being rude), where do you get all that stuff from? Did you arrive at it through your own deliberations?

Skeeter1 - it's an interesting theory but I really can't see it. This is a 777 we're talking about. You can't land that in a jungle clearing, you need a major airfield and you're only going to be able to land there incognito with the backing of a national government, in which case why bother hijacking? - just help yourself to a government plane. Anyway, which government would support this? - as you say, you'd be at major risk of a visit from a few hundred thousand heavily armed Chinese guys.
Do you think the pilot had back-up? If not, why wouldn't the crew break the door down? Why wouldn't the passengers make phone calls?
I suspect it's just a terrible accident.
