John Nelson Darby (The Exclusive Brethren) did extensive preaching in New England and Canada during his later years. The language and belief system of that cult is so much like the JWS. is there evidence that Russell and he were connected, or that Russell borrowed some of his teachings?

Control - Whose worse, the JWs or the traditional churches?
by fulltimestudent inwe once experienced, the "you'll die at armegeddon," fear instilled into us as jw's.. was that worse or better than the fear of eternal torment instilled by more conventional religions?.
john spong gives his view.

Your words (if indicating hate) confirm their faith, so when ex-witnesses talk 'hate' they (JWs), recalling the words of Jesus, shut down their thought processes and recall only what Jesus said - been there, done that !!!!
ExJWs are not 'the world'.
We are survivors who were abused by the JWS.
Do I hate the people who raped me as a chlid? DAMN STRAIGHT That's called 'normal'..
Having been also spiritually raped, and physically abused, by the JW cult, it is perfectly natural that I hate it.
.
Do I tell JWS that? Why would I bother? I choose to vent here.
(haha, proofreading this and oops - did I split my infinitive? The horror!)

Did you get " Counseled " about the Music you Listened to While you were a JW ?
by flipper infrom the time i was a small boy - i loved rock n' roll music.
beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, hendrix.
i started getting slighted for the music i listened to as i lay in my bedroom listening on headphones to led zeppelin's song " black dog " at age 14 with my elder dad looking suspiciously at me as i'm rocking out .

JUMP! Roth is a arse, but loved his acrobatics. One of my fav bands as well. No one plays the ax like Eddie.
: P
Haha, simulpost, NN. I was replying to Beth's comment there.
Me, too. What a great dad he is. That was when I got interested in Simmons, and found out who he 'really' was. The whole womanizing thing - so what? who cares? I had previously not liked him (left over JW judging), but now realize that yup, he's a genius.

Thanks for that link, Old Goat. This stuff is fascinating. Also, I commented on one of their requests for info, regarding my family's name and location - they were in the religion in the 1800s. It would be very cool if that helps them to 'connect some dots'. : D -

Next steps for the Austrailian Royal Commission
by Coded Logic insince the watchtowers' lawyers have (a) failed to make any recommendations to the arc that would bring the watchtower up to date with "best practices and procedures" (b) have failed to submit a proposal for victim restitution (c) have failed to secure funding for a redress scheme and (d) have completely dismissed all the arcs' findings - what's the royal commission's next course of action?.
i see two possibilities:.
) negotiate a settlement with the watchtower.

OC - great research. Here's a NYT article about the case I mentioned. In researching this, I may be wrong about the class action suit. My memory sucks lately (sigh). As you can see, the NS govt. set up a fund ...... big mess ensued! You may find it interesting.
and the ensuing Kaufman Report (results of a Public Inquiry) ......

Wasanelder - my good friend moved away, partied like a rock star AND got an education while she was young, and has lived her whole life as a 'worldly' person. She moved back to the province a decade or so ago, but to another city, attends conventions. Her 'secret life' has never been found out. I'm happy for her, to tell the truth. She beat the system, and was smart enough to figure out how back in the 70s. xx : ) -

NN - well, how cool is THAT? : D
I know what you mean. He is just brilliant, and raised by a single mom. I was impressed by his great love for his mother, and family, as well as his business acumen.

I know. They came after me, years later. My family pushed for them to pursue it, I think, in hopes that DFing me would make me come back. haha, WRONG.
But yeah, it kinda feels like your head is gonna explode, right?
They are also 'clamping down' on JW relatives who talk to DF family members. : (
