  I've been to strip clubs, and I think Fink's description is spot-on. Here, most of the strippers are run out of Montreal. They send them down to Eastern Canada in rotations - yes, for the most part it's a filthy business run by the Hell's Angels. The women are usually young, addicts and prostitutes who left home at a very young age.

  It's just as sleazy as what you may see on Law & Order. Yes, *some* strippers in some clubs somewhere may be college girls working their way through college, but that is far from the 'norm'.

  Let's not kid ourselves about the reality of the sex trade.

  And yup, "loose conduct", iow, like I said - it all depends on who you know, and how strict the local BOE wants to be.

  edit: ha, can you tell I worked with 'Youth at Risk' for a few years? Yeah, I don't have much use for 'strip clubs'.

  The aboriginal peoples' situation is just crazy - this is the 21st Century.

  We stole their land - the Catholics stole my people's land - Am I in France, demanding my land back? NO.
  
  It's impossible to give back what we stole. Can we change the fact that we committed GENOCIDE and wiped out the Native Peoples of Newfoundland? NO.

  It's time to realize that centures of war, and invasions have displaced almost ALL PEOPLE in the western world.

  We are all humans. On the planet. Equal. We cannot return to the 'old ways'.......... that time is long gone - lost FOREVER.

  These situations will never change, because greed rules our society. Yeah, I no longer sing "Kumbaya" because it's not gonna help anything, but if we don't get our stuff together and forget about the PAST - look forward - aboriginal people will live in the same nasty conditions, with little incentive to change, and all the rest of the poor who can't get out of their own private ghettos, will continue to feed these corrupt and so-called 'democracies' we live in, that exist only to feed the corporate machine.

  Why is shunning NOT a violation of Nat'l and Int'l law?

  i was looking at the universal declaration of human rights posted at un.org and also the description of what constitutes a violation of religious freedom at uslegal.com .. .

  according to the declaration of human rights:.

  article 18.. everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

  You are so right!

  It's funny though. Bullying of adults is acceptable in the workplace (unless you are a visible minority, disabled or other 'special interest' group). It's common corporate practice. Toe the line, no matter how we treat you, or you're FIRED. And in this economy, well, most workers are no more than wage slaves.
  
  Our society is so hypocritical. I do find that when people learn the reality of shunning, most are quite taken aback. I don't know what the solution is.

  Ensure that you dont appear to be Negative , Unhappy or Bitter

  just a quick thought.... we know that the org loves to paint all those who fade or leave as "negative, bitter and unhappy"...because of course "the truth is the happiest way to live".

  so, never allow ourselves to be that way when talking with witnesses, or family members still in.. show them that we are happy, our lives are fulfilled and positive.. then they have no ammunition.

  also, it helps other doubters to see that there is life in the world beyond the org..

  I was merely expressing my own feelings, but since it's become a discussion point, let me pose a question to stimulate thought.

  So, your wife just left you, and you are in and out of the hospital with a major illness, and in a lot of misery.

  Your JW parents are still in your life, urging you to come back to the KH, and they will help!
  
  Do you pretend to be happy?

  "Oh no, life is fine! You know I've always loved Kraft Dinner, and I have the internet, so I'm never lonely. I can get by without that expensive pain medication. It's all right ... I don't need your help."

  This is what I mean by being real. No, I will not hide the reality of my life. That it has ups and downs. I have always said I am happy with the choices I made. I'm happy to be free, and wake up ready to face life each day. I'm just not gonna pretend to anyone, ever again, that my life is perfect.

  You need not agree. We are all different, and that is one of the beautiful things about freedom.

  Yes, 'creature worship' is their reason for not celebrating these holidays.

  If you think about it, though, it is another clever manipulative tool. It is a very subtle reminder that we are only to love Jehovah the WTBTS, and NO OTHER. Then, when shunning comes around, the JWS are not overly disturbed by the family ties that are emphasized on holidays such as Fathers' Day.

  No worries here. With the naval base and all the other centralized telecommunications here for the eastern seaboard, we'd be one of the first to be nuked. *shrug* Yay, I would rather be vaporized than deal with the fallout.

  they were written in hebrew script and were popular during the early 70's, when i came into the jw's.. as i recall, there was a qfr concerning them.. anyone else remember?.

  I remember that, too. I thought the letters were so flowing and beautiful (still do, art is art), and it was something new to learn. And Snowy, I didn't recall the name until someone mentioned it, either. I always plead menopause when these things happen. :D
  
  We didn't have anything in the car window, though. My dad always kept the WT involvement to meeting and fs. No 'incidental witnessing' for him (he was only in it for his woman, anyways).
