I don't think Simon meant to be cruel but to be reassuring. She's still looking out for herself, a good thing, and getting lots of help here. As a "survivor" of anxiety attacks, beint reassured I was still incontrol went a very long way toward letting me know I'd be OK.

In a tight spot.......and unsure what to do!
by Redneckgurl ini have not posted in several months..........way too much emotionally for me to deal with everything, since my family is all "in the truth" and i am the black sheep
well here is my dilemma.........we are going to celebrate halloween with the kids on friday
there are several in the congregation who still call me to do their hair.........i don't want to do it anymore, but don't know how to tell them as many of them are elderly and i love them dearly.......i don't want to hurt them, ya know?

I don't know how long you have to have been out before they won't take action, officially, but the results will probably be similar. If your parents are "righteous" you may be shunned anyway. It doesn't sound like that's an issue for you which is very healthy! Congratulations for making a better life for your kids and yourself!

Red, first, welcome back to the forum. Many folks here have left the org both ways so you should soon be getting lots of help. I've been out for a while but think you probably would be disfellowshipped for "celebrating" a holiday. They just have no idea what it's all about; of course they don't when someone else is thinking for them. It sounds like you've made up your mind; good for you. Da'ing yourself would put the power in your hands. I faded and still don't feel "free" of it all; not sure it was right. Sometimes a clean break helps to move on. Keep asking questions.

OMG They are doing commercials now!?
by flower ini just finished watching martha stewart and after it went off there was a set of commercials before the news came on and i swear i just saw a commercial from the christian congregation of jehovahs' witnesses!.
it was about raising your children with knowledge and love.
it showed a teen girl on the internet in a chat room with a person who had become her best friend and wanted to meet her in person and they said something like if it seems too good to be true it is..'love builds happy familys' was the slogan or something.. .

Well, I'm disgusted. Another reason not to have a TV. They've decieved the rank and file into believing they're the good ones. I guess this is the only way they can get into the homes of the public. Sinister.

Att: ex-Elders and Their Kids: Did You Really Have a Regular Family Study?
by Room 215 infriends, this is a sort of poll, directed mainly at -- but not limited to --ex-elders, their wives and kids.
it was my impression that, with the possible exception of meaningful personal prayer, the other aspect of the idealized, exemplary jw lifestyle that was portrayed at the assemblies and at meetings-- the regular, weekly family bible study -- was the one most neglected.
it seemed to be something the ``other" spiritual family did and the one thing we constantly agreed we ``needed to work on.".

I know my ex (as an elder) reported a family study and counted the time, but we didn't have one.

They're pathological and will have no trouble having it "both"ways. Theocratic warefare, you know; you don't have to tell the truth.
If there is enough protest to the United Way, they will pull funding. The UW funding of Boyscouts came under a lot of protest and funding was pulled because of discrimination.

For Better or For Worse?
by Guest 77 inok, to the point, who got the best deal in the marriage agreement, you or your spouse?
my answer is, me.
my wife got ripped off.. no need for details when replying.

he got the best if we are talking JW lifestyle. He was the man and daddy was an elder on the cong and everytime he didn't like something I did, threaten to call the elders about how unsubmissive I was.
Exactly the same for me! The 'husbandly" arrangemend sucked. But out of the borg, I clearly have the best deal, my freedom, sanity, the kids, control over my life especially finances. Appropriately, his life now sucks.
Live is good

I have a friend in grad school who said college was a piece of cake compared to high school. It seems to vary greatly; when my daughter was in sixth grade, it was not unusual for her to have three to four hours of homework which is way out of line in my opinion. On the other hand, I was disappointed that the high school didn't seem to expect enough. I agree that more teaching should be done IN school; kids need a life outside of academics to be healthy.
