The World Seems to Think Putin Is King of The North

this past october geoffrey jackson told the audience at the watchtower corporate meeting that "they aren't sure who the new king of the north is".. this was applauded as new light.

but if you look up the search terms putin king of the north your won't see jw.org pop up as a top search result.

i checked through the first 100 results and n-o-t-h-i-n-g.. isn't interpretation of prophecy the special territory of the jw's.

Too much nonsense into this post. Just several points:

Russia is not Christian country, but multinational conglomerate with diverse religions and large Muslim provinces from Caucasus to Tatastan. While Russian Orthodox Church attempts to speak on behalf of entire population and supports Russian nationalism, it does not have universal broad-base support as had Orthodox church in Serbia or Catholic church in Poland.
Third Rome is modern Russian myth. When Constantinople felt, it was still run by Mongol/Tatar Khaganate.
Russia has a huge support in Germany and among American GOP electorate including crazies like Ron Paul. 60% of Germans support Russian war on Ukraine and as 40% of Germans wants Russia to take over EVERY country east of them. Conservatives in USA loves Putin because they share many of his social views which they hope to implement in the country when they get control of WH. There is no love between king of the north and south.
It is hard to guess what percentage of Israelies are Russian citizen as well, but 21% of them are born or have origin there, and Russia will not attack Isreael.
Russian aggression met a match in Ukraine, which is permanetly lost. They main objective to keep it entirely under control is gone, and they have to fight insurgency and war in the Ukraine East. The war will exhaust Russian economy. Romania, Bulgarian, and Moldova are pushed further to the West and make military bases in Crimea unimportant.
Russia is always good antagonist of the Anglo-Saxon West and its masses of evangelical Christians. Even in the case of conquest of entire Europe by Russian forces (which I see it as a reality, because NATO will not fight and USA will be glad to hand over EU to Putin), there wont be global world. No country will risk a war with a nuclear power.
Even if entire human race had perished, there wont be any return of Jesus, because this guy had died 2000 years ago.

What are the Core Teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses?

recently someone asked me to define what core teachings have such a hold on jdubs that they have trouble breaking free.

trying to single out the driving force that keeps them in the borg, this is what popped into my head:.

obviously there are lots and lots of wacky things the jdubs teach/believe/pretend to believe.

Because of constantly flip-flopping doctrine, there is NO core teaching and no developed, established theology. What is valid today for JWs, and the WT can be heresy and apostate teaching tomorrow. Even the doctrine, obedience to the GB and follow the leadership blindly is not that old.

Your favourite dog breed ...?

in an earlier thread, i mentioned that i wasn't a particularly doggy person but that my parents got a husky last year that i've come to regard as a kind of brother.. huskies superficially resemble wolves and for me it's been fun to compare and contrast husky and wolf behaviour.

huskies howl but rarely bark, and seem to have a strong prey drive and a strong pack instinct - a nod to their wild cousins.

this is why i love huskies, i think.. do you have a favourite dog breed and why?.

Czechoslovak wolfdog. My father was in K-9 unit when this breed was developed for patrols in the mountains by crossbreeding German shepard dog and Carpathian wolf.

Why isn't the story of SAMPSON quickly and clearly regarded a myth?

There are several similarites and also differences between these ancient hero-myths, but also differences. The similarity is known for centuries. Evangelicals attempts to prove since mid 19th century that Samson is the original story, and Hercules/Heracles is derived myth that Greeks copied from Hebrews. Both men had slain lion, and both had died due cunning woman. One knocked pillars down, other have pillars named form him. However, there is also difference, where Hercules was somewhat outcas of the gods, especially jeallous Zeus' wife Hera. Samson like Heracles are myth. They maybe derived from some strong warrior-king in archaic era as many primitive nations had oral history about them.

panhandlegirl, sorry for your loss. I totally relate to your feeling as I consider pets a part of my family. I had a kitty that died 18 years old and it was sad to see him go. I have him buried at my backyard and I still miss him. I wish have him back to play and hug. Last time before that I was so devastated was a death of my father, so for me a pet is my family member and I totally understand your sadness. Unfortunatelly my JW family does not understand why I was so upset with a death of my pet.

zodiac and the bible

i have seen and read plenty of stuff on the net that implies many of the things in the bible are actually refuring to the zodiac.

one example would be that in the new testament the 'end of the world' phrphrase is actually a miss translation and it should say 'end of the age' and that this age that is being talked about is the change to the new sign of the zodiac which occurred at about 125 ad to the sign of picees.

has anyone done any extensive research on this theory that ma y things referred to in the bible is actually talking about the zodiac signs etc.

I heard that already in KH around 1990, which suppose to say the end of Pisces and beginning of Aquarius. However, there is no universal concensus were one constellation starts and other begins among astrologers, except by boundaries defined by IAU 1929. But again, these boundaries are invented by our imagination to describe celestial sphere.

Oil prices falling will put shale drilling out of business. It is profitable at $55-$65, but not below this price. I keep telling to my collegues that the boom is half way through its business cycle in 2012 and it seems that it we will see the end of it in 2015/2016.

Caedes, the material is much, much deeper than the aquifers. Ringwoodite occurs as abundant mineral deep in the Earth's mantle, about 300 miles below us. There is temperature ranging at 1300F, which would boil al the water, but due pressure, the water molecules break appart and creates hydroxide ions which are trapped in the crystal structure of the material. Mantle represents 85% of the Earth's weight and mass, so it is really a huge reservoir of hydroxide ions.

This issue been debated here all the time, but one things people who add links into these articles to proof OT nonsense do not read these sites too well. The water there is not in any liquid form, but is trapped or bounded in the crystals of the rocks. The water does escape into the sufrace through volcanism and plate tectonics. Nonetheless, there is no ocean below the crust due high pressure or temperature.
