The hurricane's been downgraded to a tropical storm, but it's windy and raining in Toronto, and getting worse. I just got to work soaked and am trying to avoid dripping all over my keyboard. My biggest concern is that my basement will get flooded, so I moved all my computers off the floor. Also, it's hard to light a smoke because of the wind, and we're not allowed to smoke inside here. What a pain in the butt!

some dastardly villain has set up a device that will explode unless the two scales are each loaded with 6 litres of water.

you have a 12-litre bucket that is full of water along with empty 8 litre and 5 litre containers .

Divide it into 2 X 6 litres?

Since 2 X 6 = 12 I would just leave it in the bucket

Or, if for some strange reason I really needed to divide it up I would use a measuring cup to put 6 litres in the 8 litre bottle, and perhaps a funnel to avoid spilling any.

If we were talking about beer instead of water, I would simply drink it.

Just a couple of examples in my case:

My father physically and emotionally abused the entire family. He's come home in drunken rages, and beat me with anything he could get his hands on - belt, stick, tennis racket, you name it. I thought I could never forgive him. When I grew up our relationship improved, and we actually became friends, and I can honestly say I have no resentment toward him any more.

My mother, on the other hand, also used to get violent with me, often kicking me around the room as if I were some kind of soccer ball. There was never an apology. When I grew older, I tried to talk to her about it, but she denied it ever happened, and said I was making it up. That's something I cannot forgive. We have a civil relationship, but that's it. I've learned to put the anger behind me because of the negative impact the anger had on my health. But I cannot forgive her and have a normal relationship with her.

So, while I am able to forgive many things, there are some things I won't forgive. I try to put anger behind me for the sake of my own health, not because I feel a need to forgive those who don't deserve it.

I can usually forgive almost anything once. If the person makes a habit of doing something, then it becomes harder. It shows a lack of consideration and respect. I can't let someone get away with doing something to me repeatedly and just keep forgiving. Then it becomes a matter of my own self respect, which I won't give up for anyone.

I can forgive, but forgetting depends on the nature of the infraction. I won't let people keep screwing me over and just keep forgiving and forgetting. It has to stop at some point.

in the last 2 years, i have met three people ages 18, 25 and 34, two girls and one guy who are ex-jehovah's witnesses ( thank god!

) and who have told me their horror stories concerning being molested in your congregation and no action was taken against their aggressors.
