I dont know why, but i always got a kick out of reading my granmothers old cookbooks, the pictures were hilarious, and some were just down right offensive. Pie with meat crust anyone? oh i know! how bout a big shimmering jello mold with bland vegggies and olives?

Azzy.... I tried to get Doc wasted at my party but it just didnt work.... he nursed one Margarita for four hours. Doc, I would have given ya more of the Hypnotic...but i couldnt keep enough of it around!!

Getting Over it.

i just wanted to let everyone know that i want to get on with my life and my feeling sorry formyself additude.

i am going to learn from the past, and press ahead.

this may have come to some of you... how did you get tired of living out the past and getting on with life after the dubs?.

whew! for a second there i thought you meant you were leaving the forum.

Dub-dom was such a big part of my life since i was raised in the troof, and i dont think i'll ever truly "get over it". I think that building new relationships has helped and learning to enjoy each day as it comes has definately helped me to keep from feeling distraught about the past. Dubs dont always let themselves enjoy the present because they are taught that "this system of things" is doomed and all their hope is in some distant distant future. I've learned to let myself have fun and take pleasure in little things, like seeing our daughter learn how to ride her bike without training wheels, or even just enjoying a nice glass of wine, and a good meal.

okay, lets get an unofficial count of all the people who actually did get gifts on other days of the year.

The only time i can remember getting wrapped gifts was when i graduated from highschool, and when i got baptised. That was it. My parents bought us what we needed and from time to time we got extra stuff, when they could afford it. I do remember hearing that excuse in the Watchtower and of course at demonstrations at assemblies and talks at the meetings. My best friends' family would have a "family day" and buy each other wrapped gifts once a year. Our family tried that but we never kept it up. To this day I get all excited when someone gives me a wrapped gift, and I really enjoy wrapping up gifts for people because I rarely did it when i was a dub.

Reverse Shunning

my mom calls every few months to "hear my voice".

whenever this happens i am very sad and very angry all mixed together.

I really feel for you hon, cause im not even DF'd and my mom is shunning me, she only calls to talk to my daughter or to just hear my voice and sometimes i feel the same way. I dont think you should shun her back. I've told her that im always here if and when she's ready to be part of OUR family again.
