American, British and Irish media constantly portray men as inferior to women, and it seems perfectly OK to do so. Men's sexual abilities are constantly belittled, male diseases such as baldness or impotence are the subject of ridicule, dramas and sitcoms show men as being utterly incapable of looking after themselves and the most hilarious thing ever seems to be a man getting kicked in the balls.
Absolutely. It's viewed as ok to abuse any guy you want. There's a definite double standard.
Look at comedies where the husband is a dork, yes, but also treats his wife like crap, but she still loves him and apparently it never occurs to her that she deserves better. "The Family Guy" and "The Simpsons" come immediately to mind...which are, admittedly, over-the-top cartoons, which I thought of mostly because my husband watches them every night
What does it say about us that we think that the way Homer treats Marge (he's awful to her...inconsiderate and uncaring) is "funny" or "entertainment"??? Why don't we think that kind of stuff is horrifying and completely not funny?
I understand guys' disgust with the way men are often portrayed on tv, etc, but don't you think it's also disgusting that these incapable, bumbling, stupid buffoons who treat women like crap, always have these beautiful, intelligent, accomplished wives who put up with being treated badly like that's just what women should expect???
