Yep, the attendants so lovingly take the choice seats for themselves, their in-laws, late-comers (because they're studying), best buds who contact them on social media so they can leisurely pick up a McD breakfast. Of course I should mention the enterprising young pioneer brother who will camp out at the front door of the venue (a la Black Friday at Best Buy) with his track shoes so he can be the first to throw Watchtowers down on the good seats.

Amusing line in April 2014 KM
by respectful_observer inunder "2014 convention reminders":.
seat saving: when the doors to the facility are opened each morning, please to not rush to the seating area of your preference as if competing with fellow attenders.
a self-sacrificing spirit that moves us to seek the good of others identifies us as true christians and moves onlookers to praise god.. ................................................................ i personally don't recall them previously making reference to the jw-version of the "running of the bulls" that takes place every morning when the doors open at 8:00 a.m. have seen it myself many times, it's always good for a laugh.

A Better World - Can it be achieved?
by fulltimestudent inthe hope of a better world is what attracted me (and likely many of you other loiterers (grin) on this site) into the mental mindtrap of christian thought.
i guess its understandable, re-reading the words that the author of the matthew gospel that we know as the sermon on the mount, its easy to think, that if jesus ruled the world, everything would be ok.. i'm still interested in a better world.
so have many other thinkers (and revolutionaries).

humbled, we have the moral obligation to help our fellow man I agree. The uninformed Awake reader of recent years would conclude that WT is in support of the many UN human rights/humanitarian aid efforts.

Jehovahs Witnesses make a big deal about following first century christianity, so please explain this.
by smiddy inwhere in the christian greek scriptures do disciples of christ record how many hours a month they preached.. " " " " 10 hours for women and children and slack husbands with no ambition.
" " " " do they record how many back calls / return visits they made in a month.. " " " " have they set down how many bible studys they had in a month.. " " " " do they have pioneers ,special pioneers , aux.pioneers , with goals to reach each month.. " " " " do they have d.o.
, c.o., zone servants , etc.etc.. " " " " where in the christian greek scriptures is the word " organisation" applied to christianity.

Had an elder comment on WT study (recently) that Jesus carried scrolls when he preached to people-roll eyes!

That will be a bitter pill to swallow for these older ones and their wives. There will no doubt be some collateral damage in the form of awakened legacy members.

ATMs in assembly halls
by Xanthippe ini only heard about these atms last year on this forum.
the poster seemed to be saying they are for donating only, is that correct?
absolutely gobsmacked over this, don't the brothers see any correlation between this and the likes of jimmy swaggart?

Brainfloss, RE: maximum ATM contribution.
These type of transactions are typically limited to $500 per transaction depending on your financial nstitution. They work just like any other debit card transaction.

The Best Public Talk I Ever Heard (though the speaker was disfellowshipped thereafter)
by exWTslave inthe best public talk i ever heard was one i heard in a jw kingdom hall.
unfortunately, the hurriedly formed jc disfellowshipped him within a couple of weeks for not worshipping the octo(headed) gb.
this happened two years back when i was his fellow-elder.

That would have been too profound for the JWs in our hall. I dream that someone would say, "the GB is the man of lawlessness" (three times for emphasis) from the platform.

JWs no longer taking the Governing Body seriously.
by kneehighmiah inthe recent letter being us to come to detroit shows that jws are beginning not to take the gb seriously anymore.
the buzz following the meeting was that the letter was unprecedented in its tone.
this coming from long time jws of 30 years plus.

Magnun: how butter is made in the Alps...funny. That reminds me of that upbuilding Awake article some years back, "Ever tried Cassava leaves?"

Baptisms only at regional ( district ) assemblies from 2014 / 15 service year?
by dozy injust a rumour but i guess it makes sense - i've a friend on a circuit committee ( he knows it's not "the truth" but for family & work reasons he stays in ) & he says that the wtbts have told them not to book a swimming pool for next years one day assemblies as the plan is to have only one baptism a year at the main regional ( what they used to call "district" ) convention.. with the drop off in baptisms so that sometimes there isn't anyone baptised or just a handful , i guess this is inevitable.
i remember going to a baptism a few years ago - we had hired a municipal 25 metre swimming pool and only one person ( a rather confused and scared middle aged lady who hadn't been in a swimming pool since her youth ) was being baptised - it was all something of a farce with the "worldly" staff looking on very puzzled at such an elaborate & expensive ceremony for one person.
) also with both assemblies being one day with just short morning & afternoon sessions , i suppose it is sensible to ditch the baptism talk - it tends to be something of a snoozefest anyway at the end of the morning session.

The baptism talk always ends with a prayer, what do they pray for when there is nobody to be baptized? What if they held an assembly and no one came?

There was a young brother who fell through a hole in the roof at an Assembly Hall construction, I wonder now if they at least paid for his funeral. What do you suppose the WT does in these cases?
