We know from Franz's books that some of the GB have expressed certains doubts on some things, like 1914, but I personally take with a big pinch of salt this 'quote': "The Society has 'IT' all wrong, and everything we teach needs to be junked into the trash." The GB member went on to say, "The Society needs to start all over from the beginning, at Genisis 1:1 and completely reinvent the religion." This is pure hearsay. While I have no reason to doubt your friend, how do we know he has not totally exaggerated what the GB member supposedly said to him. I suspect he's taken it quite out of context. I'm not defending the GB or the organisation, I just don't give much credence to hearsay from friends of friends of friends with 'inside knowledge' etc.

Governing Buzzards - Part 2 - Do they ALL believe the JW religion?
by Amazing inpart 2: do all the governing body believe the jw religion?
one would think that in a religion claiming to be god's modern day commissioned prophet that the men at the top, all current ten members would indeed believe!!!
does this mean that they would always agree everytime on every issue?

Watchtower and parents
by dothemath inthere has been a lot of advice given to parents from the organization over the years.........mainly "don't have any"............ it seems that the ones who would make the best parents (from the society's point of view) are the very ones following this counsel and for the most part are deciding against children.
our cong.
has many childless couples...........they're very theocratic.. this results (in many cases) the not so "spiritually strong" individuals being the ones who are raising families in many congregations.. (i mentioned recently about a pioneer couple being interviewed at a district convention several years ago.........when asked by the do about their goals...........they mentioned they had "vowed" to never own a house, and "vowed" to never have children...........do said "that's great!

I don't think this is really an issue any more in the organisation. Having kids or not having kids, no one cares and no one looks down on those that do and vica versa. I havn't read for a long time anything by the society suggesting no one should have kids...it's a ridiculous notion. decades ago with the 1975 fever this was more of an issue, not these days.
Most of the nicest JW's I've known usually had children.

In scripture Jesus never once used the name Jehovah or Yahweh when praying to God, his Father....he always used the term Father, which highlighted the intimate father-son relationship they had. Even in the model prayer he used the expression Father (wherein he says 'sanctify your name'). Your own children don't call you by your first name, but rather 'mother' don't they? As Christ is our exemplar we should be imitating him thus JW's are wrong to refrain from using the term Father and constantly using the name Jehovah. It's ok to use Jehovah, but the majority of times it should be Father if they are to follow Jesus example, yet JW's have it all the wrong way around. And not only that they say 'Jehovah God'. Why tack 'God' on the end? It is childish, like saying 'God God', similar to saying 'moo cow' or 'pussy cat'.

The "Faithful Slave" is Nonsense, Lurkers!
by metatron in"who really is the faithful and discreet slave"?.
the watchtower has taken a simple scripture and twisted it into a convoluted mess to support their cult.. jesus was telling individuals to examine themselves, by asking "who really is the faithful and discreet slave?".
by asking the question that way, he was not telling them to exalt themselves with the self appointed judgement,.

I liked Ray Franz's brilliant expose on this...how other parallel accounts of slaves are always speaking of individuals, and how there is no evil slave 'class', so why does the society insist that 12 men at Brooklyn are the mouthpiece of some nebulous 'class' out there? There scriptural reasoning is highly dubious.
Jesus said to Peter, 'feed my little sheep', and that is a responsibility of all christians, whether claiming to be born again or not.

What did the Watchtower say following 9/11
by kgfreeperson inthere have been some references from time to time about how jws felt about 9/11 and how the watchtower responded, but i'm interested in what, if anything, the watchtower said specifically.
i don't have access to any of the publications, though.
can anybody enlighten me?
-

I can't recall them saying anything specific in writing, but there have been more references to terrorism lately in the publications. Certainly they hve used 9/11 as fuel to foster more 'the end is near' expectations.
There is an interesting talk in Florida shortly after 9/11 copied almost verbatim on freeminds somewhere that was given by a prominent member at Brooklyn, I think in fact one of the signatory's on the NGO application. He gets into some speculating about how things are gonna pan out etc, most of it paranoid and delusionary.

Is there a website where current articles of WT/Awake! are posted?
by somebodylovesme in... i know that some here very generously post the most recent articles (e.g.
"comments you will not here..." which is a great post).
i was wondering if there is an archive anywhere online?

write off for a subscription, and if they turn up physically to give them to you, just take them, say thanks, give them 50c, and say 'see you in 2 weeks'.

Genesis 6:3
by Globetrotter ini know that this has been talked about already under a different context, but i had another question about it.... .
the december 15 wt claims that genesis 6:3 started a 120 year countdown to the flood.
our watchfulness takes on greater urgency .

Hey Leolaia, your photo has convinced me that perhaps there is something to this theory going around that perhaps we evolved from apes.

Is Intercourse Limited to Sexual Activities?
by Frannie Banannie innot always...but i made ya look... .
these warning signs of an abusive relationship can also be applied to a religious relationship:.
does the religion you love.... ?
-
Noumenon
Hmmm..interesting and great points for actual abusive relationships, but a bit of a stretch in applying some of those things to JW's, especially the last one.
The bible itself is packed with things that you could equate this to, eg, Jehovah describes himself as a jealous God, Jesus often belittled the pharisees, Jesus threw the money changers out, etc etc.

Why is this masonic type image linked to JW-Media website?
by Pleasuredome inof course most of us who have done any sort of reasearch on the matter will know that 'christianity' is just a cover for the sun religion.
not surprising therfore that the tetragramaton should be found in the sun on this pic.
but why is it linked to the wts's media site?
-
Noumenon
And if you believe any of e-watchman's theories, the Society is being subtly used by secret masonic forces that want to bring in a New World Order via a tyrannical future new UN, hence the Watchtower and Awake's one time NGO affiliation and subtle UN propaganda in recent years. New World Order..which one are they talking about these days?

Has the WBTS published any articles about Reiki? Would be grateful for any references as don't have the library on disk. No doubt is regarded as highly dodgy and spiritistic, similar to hypnotism or something.
