Home Schooling

my sister-in-law's husband was raised as a jehovahs witness in north yorkshire and was educated at home by his mother along with his 5 brothers and sisters.

i remember many years ago when it first became common knowledge, many brothers and sisters thought that this method of education was ideal for witnesses who wanted to remain separate from the world, but all the kids from our congregatation had a state education.

i guess my question is, was home education only limited to my in-laws husbands family, or were any of you educated at home?

I've seen quite a few kids who were home schooled. To some it was good, to others not.

I think parents should prove through testing that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to teach their kids. If the parent doesn't have what it takes, then it lies on the child to prove he can do it with little supervision. If it looks like he's going to be impaired intellectually in the future because of it, then he should attend normal schooling.

My mom was a school teacher and didn't want me in any of her classes (maybe cause I was A.D.D....LOL) but I'm not sure I would've wanted it either.

The new book for children.

my wife went to the convention yesterday and brought back the new book for children 'learn from the great teacher'.. it's certainly much better than the old pink book, larger and more colourful, even if the pictures have a 1950's feel to them.

the introduction mentions that there are questions throughout the book that you should ask children to find out what is on their mind... saying ' true, the child may come out with with answers that are not correct.

but the printed material that follows each question is designed to help the child to develop wholesome patterns of thinking'.... 'wholesome patterns of thinking' eh?

Today when they do, they get a stiffer penalty than the one commiting the serious crimes to start with. Go figure that one out.

Finally! Some good news in my life!

i've been having a rough go financially lately and my job is less than rewarding.

my hours have slowly been cut back over the last few months to the point where i've had to decide between food and bills.

however, my sister's friend brought me a job ad.

Are You Happy That You Are The Color Or Nationality That You Are?

do you wish that you were of a different race or heritage than you are ?

The only thing about my heritage that I would change is the geographical location of my homeland, which is Eastern Canada. The problem with this place is that you freeze your ass off most of the year (it's not even warm here yet, I don't think we've had a 70's day so far this year, actually the past few days were OK except for the wind), but then, when you finally get some nice weather and you'd like to enjoy the outdoors.....you're eaten alive by bugs, and I mean litterally. Some people might think that using "Deep Woods Off" as a repellant makes for a great summer perfume, but I don't think so.

I like it here, it's peaceful, lots of woods, lakes, rivers, simple life, ect, but man, when those mosquito's and black flies decide to attack, it's really annoying, and that's not counting the big stuff. I used to be able to go fishing without repellant....LOL....talk about masochism. You have to live it to understand it.

But besides that, it doesn't really matter where I am.....I love life, most of who I am, happy that I'm healthy for now and try to keep busy all the time doing something worthwhile (I don't know if lurking and posting here counts...)

Were all equal, and I never understood why some people hated others because they were of a different race. I'm glad I'm that way.

(edited to add)....Too bad technology and capitalism is disrupting the peace.
