Beware of a strangers voice?
by NikL ini got a chance to see the program for the curent district conventions and "beware of a strangers voice" was the title of one of the parts.
it seems a little unusual for a title of a talk.. also, i saw there was a talk about not falling into alcohols trap or something like that.
i am curious to know if there was anything different about these conventions.

Do you remember why the "donation" arrangement came about?
by Jourles inover ten years ago when the society changed their format from a contribution basis(pay us for the literature) to a complete donation arrangement, what were you told as to the reason for making this change?
simplification?
easier on the brothers to receive literature?

This was quite a long time ago for me, but if I'm not mistaken in Canada they did this to avoid paying sales tax on litterature sold. When you sell a product (regardless if you make a profit or not) you have to collect sales tax for the government. So even if at the time they wanted us to say it was to cover the cost of printing (yeah right) it was still considered a sale and subject to tax (around 5 % at the time).
So by changing the wording and accepting donations they avoided this. At the time, this is what they told us the reason was. Also, you didn't have to give money when you picked up litterature, you only did it when you collected the donations. I think there was a box set up for this. This was in the early eighties.

Basic human rights?
Homegrown terrorism fluorishes in the United States where crime rates are the highest in the world.
Crime is common in American schools from elementary to university level. In one year American schools reported 1,200 assaults with deadly weapons, not to mention cases involving rape and sexual harassment. A country with 230 million, weapons has become a vast prison with over two million people behind bars. The cowboy culture is dominant and every day 125 people — including 20 children — are killed. American youth have committed 2,428 terrorist operations involving gangs and militia members who are active all over the country. To this are added 40 terrorist and extremist organizations. Terrorism is terrorism, whether domestic or foreign, and terrorists are united by their animosity toward the other. The culture of violence is the result of policies of hegemony. This was evident from what happened in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Then again, we could give them all a kiss and a lollipop and send them to your home town with promises they'll behave.
They better behave in the states or else the kids will take care of them.... -

The US knows everything, they don't need to try them. If they say they are terrorists, they are terrorists.
It all has to do with the chatter and all that. Just like the WMD and manufacturing plants in Iraq. Powell knew exactly where they were...oops...not there. Actually they were traveling laboratories. Now those are a lot harder to find.
A lot more fair....sure. Yup that's what OJ Simpson would say.

This is how it works.
There are only nine possible answers: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81....ex: all double digits in the 80's will give you an answer of 72, all 70's you'll get 63, ect.
The nine possible answers always have the same icon, so it really doesn't matter which number you start with. All other numbers in the grid (with different icons) were put there to make you believe they could be an answer but they are not.

Posters That Seem To Have Vanished Off The Face Of The Earth...?
by SpannerintheWorks inthere are some posters that, for no apparent reason, seem to have disappeared recently.
these do not seem to be the subject of "verbal" abuse or self-resignation, but they just, well...vanished!
and they all were very active prior to their spontaneous combustion.. those who come to mind are:.
