There's a pattern emerging
by stillin inthe congregation that i am associated with pledged a monthly amount for the construction of a new assembly hall.
after it was built, that was where we went for several years, even though it was the farthest-away place we had ever had for our circuit assemblies.. after a few years, lo and behold, our congregation is assigned to a new circuit where (surprise!
) a new assembly hall is in the early stages of construction.

Be thankful that they used the money to build the assembly hall in the first place. There have been cases (one was in Mexico) where the all clear was given for an assembly hall. Then some years later after donating tirelessly, the local elders got suspicious and questioned the GB about their intentions to build. The reply they got was thanks for the donations but we are not proceeding with it any more and there you have it. I thought it was pretty ballsy of the elders to have sent that letter in the 1st place. -

What if we could bring down the WBTS?
by derangedjdub inwhat would be your plan or ideal reason the walls came crashing down?

Yes I agree that they have still got enough money to out live me. I believe if it is to survive it's focus has to be more internal e.g retaining it's youth and taking better care of its existing members. There is a lot they could do for its youth in the way of youth programs where the not only learn about God but it's also a fun place to be. It just amazes me really at an organisation that would much rather take abuse knocking on doors, and yet will do relatively nothing to retain it's current membership. -

Just to add to my above post. Mormons are also experiencing the same problems and issues that the Wt now faces. -

I don't think so much of a crash but more of just a slow decline. I remember at assemblies that it was noticeable that there was an absence of 18-30 year old. Most of the ones I grew up with are now gone. The converts that are coming in I believe are not to the standard to take it to the next generation. The elderly and infirm section at the assemblies was growing by a few rows each year and very soon these ones will start dying. Even I must admit the older generation JW I knew in my youth are either gone or just to old to care. Then you have got the free flow of information which is certainly having its effect in 1st world countries. True the organisation is still growing in developing countries but the question is, can this be sustained and is it affordable in the long term. I think there are clear signs that money is now becoming an issue. I've heard it said that apostasy will not be the end of Wt but apathy from with in will. Yes it is rotting from the inside. -

Conspiracy Theory ?
by Phizzy inwe are all aware here that the wt/jw org is trying its hardest to wriggle out of paying rightful compensation in the form of damages to victims of abuse who bring a claim.. they must be worried about future claims too, not just from decades ago, but from the present, as they have not made any effort as yet to truly protect the vulnerable.. here is my question :.
as they now direct the congregations through the organization known as "the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses" and as in each country this organization is headed and run by a few mendicants with no assets, do you think in future the big jw/wt corporations will deny all responsibility for abuse, by saying the very poor "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses", which owns no property/real estate and has no cash or other assets, is alone responsible ????
hence no pay out ?.

Interesting point about elders appointment by holy spirit (apostacy case)
by joe134cd ini was just listening to a jc for apostasy on jwstruggle.
the issue was raised if elders are appointed by holy spirit, then why is there such an issue with sex abuse.
the answer was given (and i thought it was quite true) well jesus was the son of god and he appointed judas under holy spirit, just to have him turn on him.

i ran into a former jw friend from my childhood.

Yup. I know of a case where it was the opposite way around. The brother was like 24 and his wife was mid 50s. -

International Conventions = $$$$. WTBT$ in bed with South Korean government
by Mattieu ini remember the whole process of selecting a host city for australias last international convention.
the australian bethel played the nsw government against the victorian.
it was so similar to choosing an olympic city and the big boys from bethel knew how to play the game.

Absolutely shocking. There was an international convention hosted in my country. I knew some delegates coming from a developing country. I invited them to stay at my place, as we were told to show hospitality. I was then told by the PO that all delegates had been assigned hotel rooms. I found accommodation in other hotels that were vacant and at a lower price. So armed with this knowledge I emailed these delegates and ask them if the could ask the bethel in their country if they could seek private accommodation with a brother they knew. I was happy to have them. Anyway cut a long story short they ended up staying in the hotel rooms (I think it was just under $1000). When I meet up with them I asked what the reply had been from the bethel about staying with me. I was informed that their email was never replied to. What makes me so mad is I knew these people (from a developing) country couldn't really afford the cost of the hotel, but we're forced to take it. I ended up hiring a van and showing them part of the country side.
