LisaRose= this is the article you are refering to about the dysfunctional art department.

i think wt is starting to realise now that perhaps their stance on higher education may not of been a to bright of an idea, as their pool of qualified and willing workers is beginning to dry up.

Conti Appeal Preview - Oral Argument Jan 14
by Chaserious inwith hopefully a good deal of interest here in the conti appeal tomorrow (or later today, depending on where you are), i thought that on my ride home from work tonight i'd preview what to expect and what i think the key issues are for any who are interested.
i have had a busy few weeks and haven't had time to read everything, but i had some time to look at the appeal briefs during my work commute the past couple days.
it'll be interesting to see what develops out of the network news coverage of this case.

The thing that stands out in my mind is. If your going to keep quiet about pedos, then you better make sure that there are adequate measures in place to stop him re offending in the unsuspecting congregation. Because if he dose then a measure of responsibility lies with those who knowingly chose to keep quiet. -

Imagine a Company Sells You a Product...
by TTATTelder inimagine a company sells you a product... you like the product and begin to do more business with them.. then one day this company demands that you never visit any of their competitors for the rest of your life.
they also add that you are never allowed to read a negative customer review about their company or products for the rest of your life.. actually this company threatens you with a humiliating future death if you engage in either of these activities..... how does that sound to you?
sound reasonable?

Wtwizzard- I like the illustration. The one I've heard that is similar to that is a restaurant that is serving poorly cooked food. The service is bad they are getting bad reviews, customers are complaining and are not coming back. Instead of thinking perhaps all these problems are because we do in fact serve poor food, they then turn around and blame the customer because they didn't enjoy fine dining. -

What I Saw & Heard in the Oral Argument Hearing on January 14, 2015
by ABibleStudent inim not an attorney and i could not record the hearing, so please forgive me if i make mistakes in relating what i remember of the oral argument hearing for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society on january 14, 2015 and the length of this post.. i arrived at the civic center/union plaza in san francisco, ca about 7:30. the area is very nice with a few homeless people sleeping in the park across from the courthouse.
it took me about 10 minutes to find the clerks office for the court on the first floor, which opened at 8:00.. once the clerks office opened, the two clerks who i talked with were very polite and helpful.
the arguments for jane doe (i.e., candace conti) versus the watchtower bible & tract society were scheduled 5th out of (i think) 8. while i was in the office a cameraman and another person for nbc arrived asking about the hearing for candace contis case.. the courtroom for the 1st appellate court is on the 4th floor and takes up most of that floor.

Well one thing I am sure about. Wt must now deeply regret not having taken Conti more seriously at the beginning. She certainly taught them a lesson that they are not beyond the reach of any earthly establishment. -

CANDACE CONTI - MIXED EMOTIONS
by The Searcher inwhatever the outcome of the appeal, i fear that most of us are going to be very disappointed.. a) obviously if the org wins.. b) if the org loses, they will put their plan 'b' into action - damage limitation - which will iinvolve confidentiality agreements being signed by pending/future victims, thereby settling the majority of cases out of court, and winning in several ways;.
there are probably other benefits, but these are the principal ones, and for these reasons i reckon the floodgates will never be allowed to be opened!!!
they've seen how other establishments have responded to their pedophile cases, and have picked up some good tips on how to minimise the effects.

My impression of this is it depends on which article you read. I read an eye witness account on here, and sort of thought it could go either way then I read the same account on cedars blog and got the impression that it was more in favour of Conti. There are how ever 2 things that stand out to me with these oral arguments. (1)there is a grey area here. (2) the fact that Wt couldn't give a satisfactory answer to elders pairing people up to work in field service when they were trying to say that there was no proof that this had in fact happened with Kendrick and Conti, certainly isn't helping Wt case.
If Wt looses it will be interesting to see what kind of a spin they can put on it. What we have to bear in mind here is that this case is widely unknown amongst the witnesses in general, and even more so amongst witnesses living out side the U.S. The other thing I find interesting is the inability in the JW community to even acknowledge that Wt may be at fault or to accept that there may even be a problem. To highlight this these are two replies that i got before I was shut down.
"Don't read overseas news papers because it was going to confuse me"
And my all time favourite was
"I've got better things to worry about", and that comment came out of the mouth of a long time regular pioneer who lives in the San Diego area. It would be interesting to know if she went around the territory telling house holders the same thing.

RELIGION AND MENTAL ILLNESS!!!

Mental illness in the religious community is not just an issue with the JWS. Utah state has twice the national average of prescribed anti depressant medication.

Kanon= yes those were my thoughts to. How can you not have a special relationship with the elders when your a hierarchical religion with a pope giving orders. I say BS to that one. I wonder if this has anything to do with the appointment of elders now been done by the CO. Sneaky buggers. I have to say there is a whole lot of murky grey here, and it will be interesting to see how things turn out.
