  Question on Marriage

  i was married for 15 years to a j-dud, she ran off, got df'd, boyfriend went to jail, she was reinstated, poisoned the j-duds against me and here i am.

  i won't do that again!

  cost me an early retirement and years of grief with my daughter, now 18. anyone have a thought about the institute of marriage j-dud style.

  I did just speak recently with a woman who was studying with jws and attending meetings. She married a jw, and before long the abuse started, from what she told me, and she field for a PFA. The elders, she said, sided with her husband and told her to be more submissive, etc. That did not sit well with her.

  Oh, and the location where she and I bumped into each other and had our conversation says a lot: She was at the local Courthouse. The marriage was over for all intents and purposes, from what she told me.

  My mum, done with the JW ?

  so my mum is about ready to leave the witnesses.

  i hesitate a bit to write it down like that, just in case i might be cheering too soon, but i do believe it is the case...

  yesterday i took a ride with my mum in her car, and the new yearbook of the jw was on the backseat.

  Viv, it may indeed be that your mum may have had it. The elders apparently want tocorner her to find out what's on her mind, since they are doing that with inactives lately, as some at this board have attested.

  The thing is, she may want to be done with it without going to the point of making it official, kind of like my wife is doing now. No meetings or service for her - totally inactive, but she does not want to bother with the stress of discussing the matter with elders.

  I might be able to comment, but these posts are way long. One quick thought though - all this proves to me is that the Bible can be understood in a variety of ways. In fact, to me, many of its statements seem contradictory. And if they are not, then it seems some verses must be almost disregarded or understood in some other way than what they appear to say on their own.

  now, as you know, i have been doing some independent study into the book of ezekiel for some weeks now and, to be truthful, ive developed a couple of problems.

  perhaps someone could clear these things up for me.

  This does indeed go to show how off-the-wall many of their interpretations were and still are. Pulling dates and events from here and there to try making their understanding somehow fall together from a historical standpoint.

  just curious, how much time do you spend here?

  when i first began posting here, about 4 weeks ago, i found that i just could not tear myself away.

  since i work at home it was a constant temptation to just sit at computer for a few minutes which invariably stretched in to an hour, 2 hours, 3 hours.

  i would break, then come back for more.

  I do visit this site almost daily, though ususally for short periods - a post here, a thread or two there. Total time - maybe 1 hour per day.

  anyone who has dealt with depression and the internal effects of sustained negative emotions will understand this, i think.

  its been a rough year, for many reasons, and i apologize to those whom ive not had the energy and emotional wherewithal to support.

  My introduction...hopefully not too long!

  i am going to try to introduce myself without giving away any evidence of who i am as i am not df or da, but just wanting to figure out what is right for me to do!

  i was born into the jw world only to have parents df as a young child and we celebrated all the holidays without the "holy" meanings and i have such wonderful memories of that.

  when i was 10, the elders stopped by and the rest is history.......i had to quit dance lessons, stop going to my friends house, and no more birthday parties, etc etc.

  Welcome redneckgurl! I think many here have experienced feelings and thoughts similar to yours. It's very common for those of us who are/were involved in the jw religion to doubt whether any good can be expeirnced outside that religion; wondering if it's decpetion by Satan instead.

  My daughter was constanly mistreated by jw youths, while her school frineds treat her with kindness and respect. A tool of Satan to mislead us? I'd prefer to take things at face value - the non-jw kids are better-adjusted, more kind, and by their actions, more Christian. That's just one example.

  i've always wanted so much to know the true god and to do his will, but it seems i struck out at the kh.

  my deep spiritual need is not being met, but i don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire, you know?.

  I still attend an occasional meeting at the KH, but beryl, I sympathize with you. My wife wants nothing to do with jws any more at all. She however deos not want to join any other religion either, or rejoin her former one, the Lutheran religion.

  Recently, I thought back to the times when I felt most 'spritual', and those times were when it was just me alone reading the Bible. But, even with that, I never developed a closeness to God, because, as He is portrayed in the Bible, I cannot feel inclined to be close to such a person.

  I agree with all the examples given thus far. Another area is career choices. And, even the type of work you do and the hours you work, being made to feel guilty if you work overtime.
