Used to be a saying at elders schools (about handling judicial cases) "You should hate the sin but love the sinner "- seems apt here

I Don't Hate JW's. I Just Think They're Wrong
by minimus inevery so often, i'll read on the board how some just hate jw's.
whether it's the individuals or the organization, some vehemently abhor everything connected to jehovah's witnesses.
i do not personally hate anyone.

Our children knew before us it was wrong and tried to tell us - but, of course, we would not listen.
It took a catastrophic event to open our eyes and move us out. We had known from the early 90's it was wrong but when you have been in for 40 odd years it is the hardest thing to admit to yourself you have wasted so much of your life and energies. The kids are delighted we are out - but it does mean that an iron curtain has descended from other family members who are still in.

Urgent Legal Help Needed: Asylum for a Minor
by kitties_and_horses_oh_my! ini'm going to be very vague and stick to just the most essential details (for reasons you will see):.
i am aware of a 17 year old (parents are dubs, he doesn't want to be but is forced to go to mtgs) who has been suicidal and asked a friend to come and get him from his home.
he left a note to his parents saying he is safe, etc., but his parents are already fairly sure of where he is.

Very sad - if this young person was in the UK a totally different set of principles would be involved and at his current age he would be free to exercise free will with the support of the state etc

Data Protection Act
by SadElder ini've read some about the data protection act in britain, just exactly how does it affect the congregation structure?
if no records can be kept on publishers it would sure put an end to the secret little files the bethel cia aka service department can keep.
any experience with this and how can we get it started in the us?

For some years in the UK publishers have been asked to sign the Publishers Record Card - on which the hours etc are recorded. I recall this is done once every few years and is deemed to give authority for some years.
This gives the cong the right to hold the cards for years in storage.
Re Judicial records - no notes or letters should be stored at the cong or indeed made during JC procedures. The cards sent to the society (in a Blue Envelope) by a cong to report a DF list only the cong name, persons name and scriptural reasons for the action. -
Congs get a card back stamped by the WT and this is kept in the cong confidential files and should be reviewed annually in September when elders are supposed to consider visiting DF ones to help them (as a WT article directed some years ago)
Congs also keep a Special Shepherding list which shows any issues re child abuse - listing the names date and little else. All correspondence in such cases is sent to the branch and no copies are allowed to be kept.
Branches will also have (and congs a copy) of the S2 form re appointing / deleting MS & Elders and this may have just general comments re the individual - nothing exciting really
Congs are independent of the Branch as far as the charity commission is concerned and should not pass on "personal details" - but this is unlikely to happen .
Details will also be kept re name address status ets by Regional Building Committees and other similar offshoots.
Oddly I still receive mail re KH Electricity / Old People homes for JWs etc - which must come from some mailing list somewhere but it is years out of date as I was PO years ago.
COs do report on individuals with "special potential" on something called a Personal Qualifications Report PQR - only likely to apply to zealous young pioneer/managers

Countering claim..."it's only imperfect men.."
by core inhow would you counter the jw response, when faced with major issues (child abuse, autocratic/hypocritical elders, changing doctrines, dates, blood issue, etc etc) ..."yes but it's only imperfect men ..jehovah is using them but will put things right in his own time".
this blindness to reality allows any error to be accounted for and ignored - "wait on jehovah" covers any error .
yet the rank & file swallow this as if it was a logical reasoned answer to the issues raised - is there a way to open the eyes of those who parrot these words when confronted with any issue ?.

My experience has been that it is a waste of energy and breath to talk logic.
Yes I agree - with relatives the blindness is absolute - it is banging head on brick wall - it reminds me of the time when first in the truth when we thought that the truth MUST be obvious to anyone if we just explained it.......same goes for the 'untruth' - it is obvious but not if you dont want to see it.
SIMON - yes amazing how elders are appointed by Holy Spirit except when they are wrong or act on their own initiative

Preaching Slowdown
by cornish in.
i can remember numerous talks and study articles about how the preaching work would get more and more intense as we near the end.. one so called prophetic illustration that stands out in my mind was when joshua and his men marched around the city each day and then just before the city fell they marched seven times signifying a quickening of the preaching work.. it seems starkingly obvious that the preaching,is in decline amonst jw's,the jw's are seen less and less often in my neighbourhood,it is very rare to see them out street witnesing around the town centres and railway stations, the average jw spends far less time preaching than a decade ago.. it seems like their chief brag is definately on the wain,in favour of other recruitment methods.

Slowdown is probably due to the loss of all the faithful high average hours publishers who have left and post here!

The Pharisees were only imperfect men but Jesus slatted them as blind guides etc....he did not say "well lets just wait on Jehovah to sort them out.."
Or is it just as the saying is "there none as blind as those who do not want to see"
