Is This Current Governing Body As Bad As Previous Ones!
by minimus inor are they all the same?
?.

In my years of visiting this site, I have noticed numerous "golden lines" from diverse posters, and sometimes several can be found in a good thread. That's surely the case here.
Donut hole has come up with a real winner:
"Past Governing Bodies were content to pull strings from the background. This Governing Body can't help but to plaster their faces on everything."
So has Gayle:
"Knorr and Franz could hide behind the "curtain" more, to create their seeming more mysterious in the minds of their followers. But now, with media and Internet, the GB are having to get more 'public.' Talks are more easily recorded and taped to be sent everywhere. This GB are stuck but playing it all they can, but are seeming to enjoy it."
Likewise kneehighmiah has some fine insights:
"The old GB seemed to hide behind the scenes. This new GB is attempting to be charismatic leaders. This produces apathy or revolt in countries like the US, but fervor and zeal in 3rd world uneducated countries. I was in a South American country during a recent GB visit, the first one in years. It was insane. A long line of people who wanted pictures and to just shake his hand. The americans and bethelites didn't really care. we in america don't like being told what to do. 3rd world countries love dictators."
THESE COMMENTS ARE SO RIGHT ON----Thank you!
Question for Vidiot:
When you say "Progressive reform's been off the table for a long time now," do you mean since Ray Franz's exit? You're sure right about them feeling besieged! That explains a lot about their policies and decision making.

Except for an occasional appearance to keep certain parties partly pleased, I've been out for a while. Thus excuse my ignorance here, but what does "a group overseer" mean? I don't remember that term being used when I was active. At first I thought it was the old book study conductor, but that been gone a few years now.
Also, when I was in, the major time for a shepherding call was during or just after the CO's visit. Has that changed too?
Thanks in advance to whoever helps me out here.

Help needed with some research
by Doug Mason ini was reading the wts 2103 brochure "how can you have a happy life?".
in section 3, it relies on "professor george zinsmeister, formerly of the university of massachusetts".. at: http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2012/06/jehovahs_witnesses_coming_to_a.html.
i located reference to:.

If you scroll down to the bottom, you'll find that this document shows George E. Zinsmeister was a faculty member, an associate professor, in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at UMass until he retired in 1999.
https://cesd3.oit.umass.edu/gradbulletin/2012-2013/Page6643.html
Perhaps he's the same George E. Zinsmeister as here.
http://waltwhitmanhighschool.com/wwhs/frameset.cfm?class=1957&id=27075
Note that he is not registered in their alumni directory (white print), understandable for a loyal Witness (the org has him as local spokesman to the media) who would not want to associate with his worldly old high school classmates.
Likely he would want to retire at around age 60 (1999) to pioneer, etc. if his kids were grown and his health permitted. If so, he'd now be about 75.
Hope this helps.
BTW, Doug, what does he say in the brochure and what's the context?

Kind of funny they need to put a letter out so members will take more it sounds like they have too much bibles and cant dump them.
Most likely they have to do this b/c they made it all so secretive to begin with that the average R&F JW would only offer to place a Bible if 'mother' told him it's OK. Remember, months ago it was so special to have gotten an original copy.
pixel, thanks for the share.

I did a search recently for the books. It took a while but I was able to find a free copy of CofC, 4th ed. for DLing. It took maybe an hour to find. I'm sure you can still find copies that way, if you stick to it. Evidently plenty of people have uploaded it/them.

Bizarre exchange with witness after being away for a year..
by Dis-Member ini few moments ago i received a strange text message.
it read:.
russian government is opening a case on banning our jw.org website in russia.

Dis-member,
Your post is chioce. I'm forwarding it to an inactive friend.
I just went on jw.org and could find no such posting re: the Russain government. I even did a search using 'Russia' and 'Russia website'.
Is this real? Are you sure this sister isn't trying to get you interested in her personally? When I was active, I was constantly surprised at what these single and very desperate sisters would do to try and snag a guy... I once went to a memorial in a congo I'd never attended after being inactive for years. I even went with a full beard, and you know what a no-no that is! Still, once word got out there who I was, all these available single sisters kept coming around from young to old letting me know about themselves. From a Witness perspective how unspiritual can you get? ---taking such interest in this unknown, bearded, inactive brother!

The real reason behind the Revised New World Tranlation
by raymond frantz inusually i'm spending most of the meeting reading through the bible .so my time spend there is not entirely lost .i used to enjoy how in the old nwt you could look up a verse and then following the side references i could get a pretty good picture on that verse.usually the explanation would be contrary to the official jw doctrine.last sunday meeting i opened the revised nwt to do exactly the same thing ,and then it hit me !
the revised nwt has removed more that half of the references used in the previous version.what more the references they left only lead you to verses that support jw doctrine.this a watered down version of the previous edition.what do you think ?could it be that this is part of their continous plan to dumb down all remaining jws?.

Ministry in God's paradise earth
by mistified inso i'm listening to a talk this week and the speaker was pretty delusional and shouted a lot!
the talk was the usual mumble jumble but then he said something that did not make any sense at all.
he said that after armageddon in the new paradise earth, the witnesses will still be warning people about the end of the new system of things.

This is one of the reasons why the GB wants such tight control--they feel that if they give the R&F any freedom, they go crazy with it! Sometimes they do...
No excuse, of course, for the GB's corruption.

Did any bethelites here see first hand books of magic and witchcraft in their library?
by EndofMysteries inanother thread made me remember hearing rumors of books of witchcraft and such found in if not the main library a restricted library at bethel, for research purposes.
i wonder if anyone here had seen those first hand and if so, what exactly were the names of the books?

Like S&R says, the person to ask here would be Barb Anderson. On a post somewhere she discussed this secret library. Anyway, she worked in Writing so she could speak about this with authority.
