Pets and Jehovah Witnesses

did you have a pet while being in the jehovah witnesses?

having a 40 hours/week job and going to all my meetings, and being an aux.pioneer, i hardly had any time left for my cat.

i knew many families who also were so busy with that religion, that they had to get rid of their pet.

OMG - you guys are TOO FUNNY. I love cats - I have 4!!!! Although the article made me think, after quick prayerful consideration, I chose to keep my cats. Already, though, I can feel the spiritual weakness envelop me.

On a serious note, I had a pioneer sister once tell me not to feed the cats CAT FOOD with by-products. I tried to argue that the "blood issue" only applied to humans... seemed ridiculous to me, and she told me to look it up. I did, and sure enough, it was in the bound volume. I don't remember where, but it blew me away. Now I only feed my cats scrambled eggs & catsup!

Good job, chickie!!! I especially like the part you refer to about Isaiah & Jeramiah - I've often wondered how these biblical figures "worshipped" when the Isrealites brought in false worship.

So How Bad Is The World REALLY?

in the uk, if you drop a wallet in the road in error, what are the chances of it being handed in to a police station by the finder with all the contents still intact?.

when i read that in the times some weeks ago, i was very skeptical.

then i thought of all the people that i know, friends, aquaintances and pub pals, and i reckon that 90% of them are basically honest with their fellow man.

Everybody has "bad" enter their lives at one time or another - sickness, crime, family troubles, etc. We also all experience the "good" - health, love, happiness, etc.

The good days usally outweigh the bad, however, the bad seems to effect us more, emotionally, over a longer period of time.

As for the world, I believe its much better than in previous years. Women have more respect worldwide, and its unacceptable on a world-basis for the mistreatment of women in other countries (eg. Afganistan). We have charities, social-support systems, religious freedoms, technology (who would want to live without their conviences?). Man has a conscience, so we are trying to balance the technology with environmental concerns. When we have a negative consequence to our actions, we work hard to repair/discontinue the damage. We are educated and expanding our knowledge. I'm very satisfied with humanity. I do not believe we are "evil" or misled by such.

Spousal Abuse Thoughts

i have been having an ongoing discussion with a friend about spousal abuse.

she has come to accept and believe that i have never hit a woman in my life, but feels that i am a rarity.

i contend that i am not, that although too many men still hit their wives, they are in the minority.

My ex never hit me, however, he was verbally and emotionally abusive. Its harder to recognize and accept... also very hard to define - but once you're away from the situation, you can see it for what it was (sorta like the "truth").

I dated ALOT before I got married, and date now. The only time I was ever hit by a man, was a nice Pioneer, MS, brother (he was 21, I was 18). He told me to "shut up" or he'd hit me... I didn't (to see what he'd do) - and he hit me. I dumped him the next day. He went to the elders to fess up that he'd touched my boobies (I was sooo bad even back then ) LOL

I know that spousal abuse exists - personally, you can leave me in a room with a tonne of single men and I will single-handedly pick out the alcholic/drug addict. They're the ones I'm attracted to!!!

Sadly, so many have spend a good portion of their lives, "dedicated" to the truth.

I have hope that my family will leave it. They're "thinkers" and they love their family - namely me & sis who are on the "outs". They've all found ways to still communicate with us, but its not the same. Sometimes they say things like "it'll be nice when we can all be united as a family again" (meaning JW) but I always think "yes, once you leave it"

I sometimes feel "gyped" that I've spent a good portion of my youth on crap... I couldn't imagine being in my 50-60 yrs and realizing it was your whole life! No "new system", no security of being told what and how to think....

Eg. the "flood story" of Genesis originated with the Babylonians

Thanks for the re-post Farkel. I enjoy reading your thoughts. When I was a kid, raised as a witness, this use to bother the hell out of me. Always did. The answers provided to my questions were as you described... and it never settled in me that all these people out there, raising their kids in their religions (Catholic, Jew, whatever) who "thought they had the true religion", were toast.

Every day God delays Armageddon, means that millions of people will die who would not have otherwise died had God just made Armageddon happen yesterday, the day before, the day before that, last week, last month, or last year. Or three thousand years ago.

Farkel, I use to think the above, and then when they would ask from the platform for us to raise our hand if we weren't "in the truth" 5, 10, 15 years ago - and how happy we should be that armeggedon didn't come because all those that raised their hands, wouldn't have been saved.

&*$#*! - I use to think.... hmmm, what about all the df'd and da'd??? There are thousands being kicked out or leaving yearly and if it had come sooner... If armeggedon had come 5 years ago, I'd have made it - now, I'm worm feeder. Nice huh? But then I guess "Jah" knew my "heart condition" and held it off.

losing the shadow of Jehovah.

just the other night i was feeling a bit down and when i went to bed i started to pray , then remebered i dont believe in god.

my whole life i believed there was a supreme being watching over me , who i could talk to and was listening to our prayers.its hard to get rid of that feeling from the back of you mind.

sometimes,when i do something i think i shouldn't , i start to say a quick prayer but then stop when i realise i'm just talking to myself.

Sleepy... I don't believe in God either. At times though, I've found myself praying. Its something I've done since I was a small child, before falling asleep, and carried through most of my life.

At first I was mad, or "caught" myself... then felt stupid, because I don't believe a God is there to listen.

Then I figured, the odd times when I feel a "need" to pray, I may as well. It can't hurt. I don't offer it through anyone's name (Jesus) or direct it to anyone in particular (Jehovah), but I "pray" about my feelings, thoughts, etc. Its not often. I think its healthy, like a form of meditation, and emotionally it makes me feel better... even just to verbalize what I need to at the time. Its like "gathering my thoughts".

I don't believe they are heard, or I'm directed in my life, or my problems will be "helped". I do believe it relieves my stress, and since its so ingrained in me, I can keep and modify this form of "superstition" to fill my needs.

i called him and we talked from 10 pm until 6 am from the next day.

My personal opinion...

I think that at 28 years, you wanted sex. The experience.

Use protection if you're having sex.

You don't need to "be in love" to enjoy it, but make sure you "know" the guy - be safe.

Don't expect anything more with this guy. I think you have mixed feelings because you've received mixed signals.

Ardilla... there's many good, nice men out there. Have fun, but be safe in looking for one.

Is it acceptable to change your beliefs?

i have mentioned on this board before, that i think the downfall of organized religion rest in the fact that they are to stubborn to change.

meaning, "what is, will always be.

" as they feel their teachings are based on god and that is all that matters.

Dragon... just curious, and I don't mean to throw the thread off, but what do you think of the homosexual sheep research?

I've always held back "judgement" of gays, trans-sexuals, etc. because I could never believe that someone would risk that type of prejudice, ridicule, society rejection, etc. unless it was their "nature". I've always thought, if things were reversed, and I was a hetrosexual in a homosexual world, how long could I live a lie before I sought out someone of the opposite sex?
