Jesus drew a comparison between Noah's days and a coming destruction. That comparison fails unless he was asserting the flood happened. So I don't think we can in all honesty make a excuse for what he really meant. According to the bible Jesus believed the flood of Noah's day. The bible is inspired word for word by god. It is literal. Everything in it happened just as written. Jesus said the flood happened. Somewhere in those last sentences are a number of issues for an open minded person.

AND... Why was Abel sacrificing poor little lambs? I mean it was just a few years after the first children on earth were born. Did God tell Adam to kill animals for him? Why wouldn't that be recorded in the bible? Why would the second and third men to live think they needed to build alters and make sacrifices? There could be no symbolism of a sacrifice depicting the Messiah. They wouldn't have had that written or foretold yet. No reason makes sense.

"Prove the truth to yourself" Why does the GB give this advice?
by Comatose inwas reflecting on the instructions that are given pretty regularly to make the truth your own, prove it to ourselves, and address any doubts we might have.
why would jws get this advice when the result of any honest search would lead one to exactly where most of us here are?
i can think of two answers.. first, it's somewhat like being on a tour at a public attraction.

Was reflecting on the instructions that are given pretty regularly to make the truth your own, prove it to ourselves, and address any doubts we might have. WHY would JWs get this advice when the result of any honest search would lead one to exactly where most of us here are? I can think of two answers.
First, it's somewhat like being on a tour at a public attraction. When you are looking at a pool of sharks and the guide says, anyone want a swim? Everyone chuckles. Some laugh too loudly and think its truly funny, some just chuckle falsely as they are supposed too in order to play along. But no one jumps in. I think it's kind of like that situation for all the people that Bethel actually WANTS to keep in the hive. They know almost all of the rank and file will ignore the offer to check it all out. Most are too busy to even read their magazines on time, let alone to read the bible daily. They don't have time to study and research any doctrinal issues or doubts. Plus, the doctrinal messes and prophecies are confusing. They don't make much sense unless you are drinking lots of kool-aid. With the chance of appearing mentally diseased and being shunned looming most wouldn't bother with researching. Some because they are actually afraid of even looking. Others because they are lazy.
Second, I think bethel knows that anyone with critical thinking would see straight through the large holes in many of the beliefs. But, they planned it that way. They don't want you on board if you ask questions. They want you out and shunned to stop the bleeding. Proving the truth only works for the die hards, and gets rid of the weak. If you are a sit down and shut up type along for the ride then they are okay with that. So encouraging people to check it out works just like the quote mining and dishonest references. It just provides a fake layer of proof that they are okay with you looking into. Because if you can see it for what it is, they want you to. They want you to see it and leave so that you can be labeled an apostate and shunned. Much better than having weak doubters asking questions all the time.

Seraphim - Jesus referenced the flood as I have had pointed out to me many times in the past. He didnt make note of it being a parable or story, but spoke of it as a warning and a true event. So I don't think the argument that it is all parable is able to stand. There is a valid (and wrong in my opinion) reason why people view the Genesis account as literal.
However, its all hog wash.

ADCMS - we agree completely. I'll add to yours allowing the demons to hump earth women and create monster kids who ruin the earth. God allowed that, then supposedly said no more to stop it from happening after the flood. As if he couldn't see that would end bad in the first place. I mean wow, women are very enticing and evil creatures to make an angel who never even knew what a physical body was want one and then an earthly carnal sin. It's like beastiality would be for us, but they were perfect.

The whole tree of life thing is a mess. Angels guarding the way with swords before there even swords invented. Why did God let Cain kill Abel? I mean he carried on a conversation with him. He protected him after it. It doesn't make sense.

she has told me everytime i see her that she can't wait for jehovah to end this evil world...she can't wait for the new system...the end is so close....etc.. i sent her a message back telling her that i left the jw's and asked her if she had heard that.

Although ive faded and am out, I didn't know about Jehovah and the NWT as you mention. The last thirty minutes on jwfacts have been mind numbing. Thanks and congrats.
