  Our first Halloween was amazing

  not sure if this is the right forum, if not i apologize.. last night was our first halloween.

  i have to admit, the very idea that somehow it is satanic and that it makes bible god cry seemed immensely foolish as we prepared for it.

  my daughter was dressed as an undead witch and my son was dressed as thomas the tank engine.

  gma-tired2 - I had a one on one talk with my daughter and I came to find out that shew didn't understand how god could be real... I didn't encourage or discourage that thought I jsut told her to come to conclusion s on things in life by using your mind not what people say. So I asked her about Halloween. She said, "Well I don't worship Satan and Demons so why would it be bad?" Granted even when I was going to the hall I didn't force doctrine on her very much. Kids will follow your lead and think for themselves as well if given the option.

  suavojr - My mother did they same thibng every year. We would turn off the lights in the house and act like no one was home... essentially lying. JDubs are such hypocrites. Its not like if you say no we dont have candy that people willl murder you.

  jgnat you mock me LOL.

  It took me like 45 minutes to make the crooked mouth and abnormal eyes. I tried my hardest to make them symmetrical ROFL.

  My daughter saw it and asked me if I was dizzy when I cut it out - LOL

  Anyone Celebrating Halloween this Year???

  i started yesterday.

  took the kids (they were both princesses) and my nephew to 3 different events.

  got tons of candy and the kids had a blast.. .

  Not sure if this is the right forum, if not I apologize.

  Last night was our first Halloween. I have to admit, the very idea that somehow it is Satanic and that it makes Bible God cry seemed immensely foolish as we prepared for it. My daughter was dressed as an undead witch and my son was dressed as Thomas the Tank Engine. My wife took them through the neighborhood asking for candy.

  I stayed home and passed out candy. I think I went a little overboard scaring the children. I am new to this so I actually thought I was suppose to jump out and scare them so I hid behind my bushes and jumped out while ringing the bell. One kid ran and fell... he started crying. I felt bad but the mom laughed and kept poking fun at the kid. SO I gave him an enormous pile of candy as a sorry.

  We also made a Jack-o-lantern. It looked Horrible but when the candle was burned out it leaked from its mouth and looked like a giant pile of vomit. memories in the making.

  Just found out I have fading or leaving JDubs around the corner

  this is weird, but yesterday my wife was driving to different houses in the neighborhood trying to find out who was going to have candy out for the kids on halloween.

  the properties are fairly large and they all have gates so she didn't want to walk this evening in the dark aimlessly with our kids for our first halloween together.

  anyway she gets to one of our neighbors has a good convo and she says don't bother asking the neighbors they don't celebrate halloween.

  Julia I think the problem is we dont shut up about it LOL.

  We aren't hiding it at all. We jsut got back in from trick or treating. We went to their home but no one answered so my wife is going to go by tomorrow at lunch since the wife does not work.

  Mr. Flipper I will most definitely reach out to them I hope that they arent the scaredy type

My wife asked Why?(Of course the JDub flags went up) The woman said they are Jehovahs Witnesses. THey told her that they dont celebrate the holidays but this will BE THE FIRST YEAR THEY CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING... my wife laughed and told her that we were JDubs previously and the woman busts out laughing because she never would have thought so.

  SHe asked my wife if she minds if she tells them. Of course you can tell them she says. We plan to make a visit this evening with our children and get the full scoop this evening.

  What is interesting is that they are going to this womans home for their FIRST THANKSGIVING. SO are they on the way out? Are they afraid to not be friendly and accepting her request? I can not wait to find out what the deal is

  It is truly a shame that people base there entire lives off of words uttered by someone that didn't that even make suuuuuuuuuuuure that the proper meaning was retained in some way shape or form. At some point one and intelligent person must ask themselves why is this life saving work not recorded in a way that every person can understand it easily without have to spend days worth of studying to benefit.

  villagegirl's question on another thread was probably supposed to be rhetorical but i want to respond to it.. many times people of faith express similar misapprehensions about those who don't share their views on eternity.. i want this to be a positive thread.

  an opportunity for atheists to share what moves and inspires them.

  " What do you live for, what gives your life meaning and purpose?"

  I live for my children, they both give my life meaning and utter happiness. My parents were/are hardcore believers. They believe demons were everywhere and that in order to be safe we had to do everything the "good" book said. That meant avoiding school, good jobs and just enjoying day to day activities. It left my brother, sister and I poor and unhappy. We were constantly beat and they are old and will obviously die leaving us with nothing monetarily or emotionally. All because bible god and his son Jebus said it is good to be poor and constantly rely on someone who is either not there or if they are they have no interest in you.

  Leaving all that mythology behind I constantly think:

  1. What can I do today to make my kids live more fun and enjoyable.

  2. What valuable lifeskill can they learn from this moment.

  3. WOW! It is so much fun to just watch my kids play with each other.

  4. What can I do to make their dreams come true and make them better members of society.

  I literally wake up everyday just loving the fact that I can love them and show them how they can enjoy a good life free of superstition that will prevent them from learning and prevent them from WANTING to help their fellow man out of the kindness of their heart and not because they think they will be rewarded by someone in the sky
