I just imagined the look on the faces of the Governing Body, and JW collective if a JW, who 'wasn't supposed to go to college' developed a cure for all viral infections along the lines of this, and got big name interviews on all the major networks. So much for belief in mankind being doomed to disease and 'imperfection'.

Syncis....sounds like another MLM scheme
by whathehadas inmy sister who is 26 and a jw, recently quit her job to join this "company" that helps people invest for retirement.
she has a masters and was working in education.
now she's sold on syncis.

I've noticed that JWs are suckers for easy solutions.
Life is hard?
Throw your belief behind the teachings of men in suits promising qualifying for everlasting life (Watchtower), or endless riches (MLM schemes) after 6 months.

Why JWs would commit murder if ordered to by the GB
by kneehighmiah inpsychology class is teaching me so much.
it's a core class, as i want to study medicine or biochemistry eventually.
we were assigned to read about obedience.

Remember...
"At that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from Jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint. All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not . (4) Now is the time for any who may be putting their trust in secular education, material things, or human institutions to adjust their thinking . The elders must stand ready to help any who may now be wavering in their faith. "
There are ways of getting anything done, and it can be two tiered. What if an instruction comes to restrict the freedom (tie ups, handcuffing, locking of rooms) of known 'opposers' so that the elders can see them to administer further instruction from the Governing Body?
That is not outright murder, but it seems likley that many JWs would do with little prodding.

@TTATTelder, I notice that behaviour, even among those close to me. Checking the website for new info feverishly like teens in love checking for text messages.
It is getting scary. JWs are literally worshiping them now
Systematically inflating their importance through their 'publications' then revealing themselves to the unthinking JW masses has made them into idols -
i·dol (īd′l)
n. 1. a. An image used as an object of worship. b. A false god. 2. One that is adored, often blindly or excessively. 3. Something visible but without substance. On the other hand this may very well be Watchtower's anchille's heel. - The GB are aging and prone to illness and death, which may help put things into perspective for JWs with remains of an analytical mind still in tact. - A scandal or two involving individual members will dampen credibility - When predictions / projections / prophecies fail, or when things generally go wrong there are faces to put failures to.

@kaik - Annual General Meeting held at headquarters last year. All members of the Governing Body presented parts in big ticket press conference style. It was STREAMED to many parts of the world. They even had a gimmick where someone reminiscent of Steve Jobs presented their new app.

Now it is almost at every single meeting! Especially since they starred in the whole AGM charade. They have become so revered, almost worshipped now.
Have you noticed an upward trend in GB worship since the AGM?

How long before they back track on the internet
by joe134cd ini was just thinking today.
how long will it be before the watchtower back tracks on its internet bashing, and finally allows it's publishers to set up internet sites.
how long before the wt joins up with the likes of face book /twitter.

I think relying on the internet will be a major factor in the Watchtower's undoing. It's a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation. Long before I searched for TTATT online I would Google information about Mormons whenever they came to my gate. Why? That is just the custom of the age in which we live. You see something you are unfamilar with and start looking for more information, and the experiences of others.
Want to try a new restaurant? Google it first!
Want to buy a new car? Google it first!
Want to try a new diet? Google it first!
Strangers show up at your door promoting their movement or product? Google it first!
The current norm is to 'shop around' for the most information possible (visit many sites and compare data).
If I knew nothing about the Witnesses, and one of them told me they had an Official Website I would visit it, and then begin to wonder:
Do they have an official Twitter? Youtube? Facebook? What are others saying about them on these sites? Do they have forums?
I'd fire up the trusty old Google and compare the hell out of results.

Internet at Bethel Monitored?
by jw07 ini was speaking to a group of uber-dubs over the weekend, and one of them was mentioning no-nonse policies at bethel, one of them being the monitoring of website visits.. he was saying that you had to 'freedom' to do certain things, like use the internet, but if you visited "the wrong websites" you would face consequences.
he mentioned the case of a brother who visited the "wrong website" a few days in and was immediately sent home.. can anyone shed ****new light**** on this?
:-).
