I came across the above book while I was browsing in a bookstore. Since I was on my lunch hour, I could not read it fully, but did quickly look over the information. It spent a great deal of time discussing matters pertaining to Russell. I'm wondering what other books are out there that perhaps discuss more recent concerns within the WTBTS? What I'm looking for is a factual, documented, book with references I can check, in my attempts to find out the full facts of the matter and weigh both sides.

Hi,
A previous poster said they could provide a citation for an existing case going on in Colorado. I'm in Colorado, I'd be interested in seeing this info.

Hi,
Thanks for the reference to the website. I checked it out, saving off the PDF file on the chapter "Cults." Just wanted to get an idea of how the Australian government defines them.
As some of you who have read my posts know, I'm a current JW, but have felt a need lately to do additional research.
Anyway, the website indicates that the WTBTS submitted article #87 in connection with this subject, and that copies of submissions are available from the following address:
Committee Secretariat
Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Trade
Department of the House of Representatives
Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600 AustraliaEmail address to request submissions is:
[email protected]I thought I'd request article 82 from the WTBTS, just for curiosity's sake, and am giving this info in case someone else wants to request it too.
p.s. It's hard being at this "troubled" stage. I just need to know (and do) what's right. At one time, I had answers to my questions. But now, I feel torn between two worlds. And the only thing that seems to make sense is to keep considering both sides, in an effort to understand.

DFing, DAing, and apostasy
by troubled ini have a question involving disassociating, disfellowshipping, and apostasy.
particularly daing.. the bible say where someone comes to you and does not bring "this teaching" or is an unrepentent practicer of gross sin, never let them into your homes or greet him; remove the wicked man from among yourselves.
and this is the scriptural basis used for shunning persons who are df'd or da'd.. but my question is this: when it says if someone comes to you and doesn't bring "this teaching," what specifically does "this teaching" refer to?

Any Buckeye's Here
by larc infor those who don't know what a buckeye is, it is the state tree of ohio.
it also grows in michigan, but most michiganders try to kill them off and burn them at ohio state - michigan football games when ohio state loses.
the buckey tree produces brown fruit that look like a chestnut, except they are poisonous.

Special Judicial Committees
by JEMIMAH inyou will have to understand that i have to change a few details here and there so that i can't be identified.. as many of you are aware i serve as an elder, and from time to time i have been asked by the service desk to handle matters for them by means of "the special committee arrangement".
(a phrase you will not find in any wt letter or elders textbook.
) just to explain.. "a special committee is often set up when, an original committee (ojc)decides to disfellowship an individual, who then appeals against the judgement.

Your posting has given me a lot to think about, and it spurred me to post an offshoot question regarding DFing, DAing, etc.
I am currently an active JW, but like you, have seen some very disturbing things in the organization. (Though, being a sister, I've seen them from "a distance.") Not being able to just turn a blind eye to some of it and have a clean conscience, I am finding myself having to reevaluate and research in an attempt to find scriptural answers to my questions and fortify my faith.
It sounds like that's what you are trying to do too. Whether the info proves to build up our faith or erode it, the bottom line seems to be to make sure of what we're told, as the Boreans did. Thanks for posting your very honest message. It takes courage, I know.

I have a question involving disassociating, disfellowshipping, and apostasy. Particularly DAing.
The Bible say where someone comes to you and does not bring "this teaching" or is an unrepentent practicer of gross sin, never let them into your homes or greet him; remove the wicked man from among yourselves. And this is the scriptural basis used for shunning persons who are DF'd or DA'd.
But my question is this: when it says if someone comes to you and doesn't bring "this teaching," what specifically does "this teaching" refer to? Is it "the Truth" as a whole? Or the teaching of the Christ and his ransom?
What I've always believed and been taught is that any person who formally leaves Jehovah's organization, whether DF'd or DA'd, has this scripture is applied to them. They are viewed as not remaining in "the teaching," as apostates, and are not spoken to.
But what if the person voluntarily DA's? What if that person has NOT committed a gross sin? If "the teaching" in the scriptures refers to that of the Christ and his ransom, and the DA'd one still accepts that teaching, is there still a scriptural basis to shun them?
I plan to read over the info in the Reasoning book again and do more research. But was curious if others have researched into this and/or what they've found out.

Misquotes
by troubled inhas anyone ever written to the society, with evidence of misquotes, and asked them for an explanation of this?
or has anyone ever written and asked them why they quote and don't give the source of the quote?
if i did this, do you think i would get into trouble in the congregation, etc.?

I'll have to give long, serious thought to all of this. Thanks, everyone.

Jan H,
I'd like to see that letter if it's still available and you don't mind.
