do we,can we,make time for ourselves?.

many of us exiting the wts were limited and restricted regarding our free time/vacation activities.most activities didn't meet with wts approval for various 'reasons'.

Hey Tina

Nice thread, thanks for starting it.

The greatest thing about being out of the borg is doing ANYTHING without feeling guilty about it.

I have always enjoyed reading, and can now read whatever interests me, without worrying about others being stumble by it or "worldly" thoughts getting planted in my head.

Last summer I even took sailing lessons...am still a newbie at it, but I had a blast! The gang even let me go with them and crew for a few local sailing club races. Now I take my kids to see whatever movies we want to see, regardless of ratings.(remember, they're teens)
We live near the beach and I always enjoy that. But a very simple pleasure I greatly enjoy is sitting outside sipping my coffee with the Sunday paper...and looking over at hubby and saying "If we hurry, we could still make it to the Watchtower study". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
We've been telling each other that joke for two years....and we STILL crack up! hee hee

it seems like to me the majority of people who are in the truth, are were in the truth was a result of either a family member are a friend witnessing to them and not many seem to have been found in the door to door work.. from my years of associating with the borg i cannot recall many coming in the truth from the door to door work.. how were you sucked in?

for me it was my aunt who has now even though i am not disfellowshipped decided to write me out of her will to the tune of about $150,000.00 (maybe i should hang around a couple more years)dont think i will.. please respond .

Born into it. My Aunt and Uncle were met in the door to door work, and they proceeded to spread it to all of her sisters, her mother, his parents and sister....and so on, and so on...

Just glad my kids are free now, along with me.

a friend lost

on thursday, the 21st, i lost a dear friend.. he was an older man, some 25 years older than me.

he was not a dub.

we became friends over 10 years ago because of a mutual hobby, that of ham radio, or amateur radio if you prefer.

My heart goes out to you buddy...especially since I think you probably needed his friendship now more than ever. I am so glad you were able to be a true friend to him...and attending his funeral will probably provide some solace to you.

I recently attended a "worldly" funeral for an elderly client of ours who I had grown quite fond of...and sitting there listening to the service, without the preconceived biases I had as a Witness, I found it quite beautiful...and simple. I think the loved ones were very comforted. I compare that to the witness funerals where everyone tells the loved ones only how much they should look forward to seeing their loved one in the new system. Where is the laughter and tears over shared memories, the honoring of that person? It is buried in dogma...and they don't get to really grieve.

Take care my friend...and grieve for your friend.

Embarrasing Moments

just so certain ladies do not feel alone in cringedom i will confess my red-cheekers !.

i was a well-developed 15 yr old getting too volupteous for my school uniform ( ok too fat then) and the zip had bust on my only school skirt.

my mum replaced it using an old zip from another garment which happened to be quite a bit longer than a normal skirt zip.an unmarried brother came to visit one morning and was sat in our living room having a cuppa while i was frantically getting ready for school.

BEW...yes dear...I thought of swallowing the gum...but as I said, he was inches from my face and was afraid he would notice my tongue working it back and the loud swallow!!!

My son's very embarrasing story is when he was little, about 4 yrs old, and found the box of tampons under the bathroom sink. Well, of course he didn't know what they were...and he and his brother were into playing army(yes I even bought them a package of those little army men). We went to my Mom's house and he was in the back yard playing with those army men with his cousins and little brother. I noticed them throwing the men up in the air...but there seemed to be these white things attached to the men and also free flying through the air. Went out to investigate and...you guessed it...there were tampons ALL OVER the back yard and strapped to the poor army men. When I asked my son what they were doing, he said "Watch out Mom, don't step on the bombs!" We had a good laugh over that one!! To this day, my son is mortified that he thought they were bombs. Ahhhhh, makes me wish they were little again....NOT.

While you are obviously an intelligent man, and no doubt have suffered greatly through your experiences...I find that ones' intelligence could be put to better use than using wit and sarcasm to castigate another human being.

I don't personally know you...I don't personally know COMF, but I have enjoyed reading both of your posts...and I think you both have goodness to offer. Because of my own life experiences, people who use sarcasm are many times suffering incredible pain...or are just mean spirited...in your case I believe it is the former.

You are of course welcome to continue this COMF bashing if you choose, I will not be affected by it, but perhaps it is your spirit that is?

COMF...you have offered many positive things on this board in my experience...just wanted to tell you that.

You've got more balls than a woman's got a right to, sharing such embarassing stuff with us. I have been laughing sooooo hard. Hey sweetie....don't worry about the spare tire thing...trust me...all they saw was the "enormous boobs".

Well, I tried to think of a moment to share with you that was as funny as yours..but I couldn't. However, so you don't feel that you are the only one here "baring all", I will share a little one.

I was 18 years old...having my first real "love interest"...sigh...oh yeah, where was I? Anyway, after a few dates, he finally worked up the nerve to try to kiss me good night, which I had been breathlessly awaiting and wondering what the hell was taking so long? Anyway, being a little shy and a gentleman...he asked my permission to kiss me goodnight. Since I had been waiting for this, and since I'm the kind of girl who likes to plan ahead I had been faithfully chewing spearmint gum on every date so that I would have nice fresh breath. But he caught me off guard anyway, and all I could think of, was what if he slips me the tongue...what will I do with the gum? So I was silent for a moment while I quickly calculated my options(you have to realize that by this time he had me up against a wall and had both hands on the wall beside my head) so his face was quite close to mine. Needless to say, my hesitation immediately sent him into an embarassed withdrawal, thinking I was hesitant for other reasons...and he never asked me out again! Man, was I disappointed, and embarassed at my ignorance!

Oh well, I've had plenty of kisses since then(thanks to my sweetie)so I am not suffering too much damage from the experience! Just wanted to share a little with you!

Awake exploits family tragedy ....

by now most here have read the terrible story of a pregnant witness, theresa giarrano, who was murdered for her unborn child.

the story appeared in vogue magazine shortly after the events took place; it is only now, 10 months later, that the awake (july 22, 2001 issue) has published anything about this tragedy.

though the story is "as told by" theresa's father, james giarrano, it is such a twisted piece of exploitation that i can only believe a ghost writer or collaborator is behind it.

I am so sorry that you lost your wife. I cannot imagine the pain you must have gone through....and to do it without any real help or comfort from those who were supposed to be a spiritual tower for you to lean on! I cannot imagine how you dealt with that and kept your sanity intact.

I too am glad your eyes were finally opened, and you escaped that dysfunctional organization. I hear your anger buddy...you are entitled to it!

May you go on to scale new heights in your well deserved freedom!
