Friend in Hawaii, just had a 4. earthquake.
I remember having a 6 or 7 earthquake one time. I can't imagine still being sane if a 9 pointer hit here. They were talking about how well built many of the buildings were in Japan and how they were still standing. It was mostly the water that would do any damage.. It was a wierd experience watching the cars floating along with the water on TV. Gave me goosebumps.
My heart goes out to them..

Scavenging for members at their place of work
by White Dove ina jw came in as i started my shift today and said that he tried to contact me before but i wasn't there.. i'm deaf and the brother was from an asl congregation.. i used to do calls like that but didn't realize how irritating and upsetting it could be for the employee/householder.
i told him that i used to be a jw but quit.. he asked me if i was under discipline or df'd or something..

Oh you poor thing! What a predicament ...
I have to be honest, I don't know what I would do.
Finding out your boss is a JW and having to work there?
And then having the JW's call on you AT WORK?
My first instinct is to run but I know how hard good bosses are to find AND jobs..

1994 Canadian TV documentary "Children of Jehovah"
by MrMonroe insorry to be a forum shopper, but just in case there's someone here that didn't read it there, i'm wanting to find anyone who remembers a tv doco produced in 1994 for the canadian "rough cuts" series of independent documentaries called "children of jehovah".. it took a devastatingly honest look at the lives of jw teens, showing them begrudgingly doing field service, revealing the tricks they pulled to boost the figures on their monthly reports and talking about what would happen to them if they left the religion.. it appears to be available for $149 as a dvd, but i wonder if anyone taped it at the time or has a copy they could, you know, share.
somehow.. it made quite an impact on me when i watched it on australia's sbs in 1995. does anyone remember it?.

Mother-in-law sends some reasoning on wedding anniversaries vs birthdays...
by garyneal inmother-in-law sends my wife a thank you card because she did something nice for her mom on their 33rd wedding anniversary.
they went out to eat dinner, a cake was provided, and everyone had a good time.
frankly, all that was needed was the candles and a song and it would be no different than a birthday party.

One point about Wedding Anniversaries. You aren't supposed to make a big deal out of it just a small gathering. So saith the JW's..
But I have noticed most of the ones for 50 years are pretty large. They rent a hall and everything! No one says a word..
So much for rules..
I like the idea of a "Birthday Anniversary" also..have a kids party and tell them it is a "Anniversary" of the first time you saw (the child's name)..
Heck, they have New Years eve parties and call it a get together with horns to blow and everything..nothing wrong with a "First time I saw you anniversary".(Birthday party).

Good point Moshe, you have to use bible type reasoning with them. Common sense reasoning doesn't work..
Dagnabit- a sheep herder back then didn't have a daily calendar! Most people only knew the season or moon they were born in. Celebrating a birthDAY was something only the kings could do, as they had a calendar and priests to mark the days for them. So celebrating a birthday was out of the question for the poor- perhaps they might have been jealous of the rich who could keep track of daily time. That is why the Bible doesn't mention birthdays for the common classes- only the Kings.

Good way to put it!
Im a non-confrontational person who lives with panic and anxiety everyday. This is me giving myself a bit of power, and telling myself I can do it. No biggy for anyone else, but massive for me.

Any one here ever experience a torn achilles tendon
by troubled mind inhusband woke up this weekend in pain with soreness right above the heel on his foot .
by sunday he was in so much pain he could hardly walk .
monday his doctor said it looks like an old injury because there is calcification around the area ,and that most likely the tendon had been torn before and might be on the verge of rupturing completely .

Just to let you know my knee injury was from a bad fall I had when taking care of hubby. I had to wait till he died to have it fixed. What do you mean my parts are wearing out?..
I even have strong bones according to a bone density test I just had..
ps..The cowboy boots sounds fun, might look a little wierd on a football field un;ess he wears a cowboy hat with it tho....
