did you know that the man that helped form the jehovah's witness religion only had 7 years of schooling?.
"in june 1912 reverend j.j. ross, pastor of the james street baptist church in hamilton, ontario, published the pamphlet, some facts about the self-styled 'pastor' charles t. russell, denouncing russell, his qualifications as a minister, and his moral example as a pastor.
russell promptly sued ross for "defamatory libel".
So you are saying he had absolutely nothing at all to do with the beginning teachings of the JW religion..?
I'm not saying he started the religion but he did have a big influence on putting it in motion..
At least from what I read in their Proclaimers book and other articles on the computer..
Regarding the beginning of Jehovah Witnesses :
The group emerged from the Bible Student movement—founded in the late 1870s by Charles Taze Russell with the formation of Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society—with significant organizational and doctrinal changes under the leadership of Joseph Franklin Rutherford. [10] [11] The name Jehovah's witnesses, based on Isaiah 43:10–12, was adopted in 1931 to clearly distinguish themselves from the disassociated groups of dissenting Bible Students. [12] [13] Jehovah's Witnesses are best known for their door-to-door preaching, distribution of literature such as The Watchtower and Awake!, and for their refusal of military service and blood transfusions. They consider use of the name Jehovah vital for proper worship. They reject Trinitarianism, inherent immortality of the soul, and hellfire, which they consider to be unscriptural doctrines. They do not observe holiday celebrations such as Christmas, Easter or birthdays, claiming that they have pagan origins that are incompatible with Christianity. Adherents commonly refer to their body of beliefs as "the Truth" and consider themselves to be "in the truth". [14] Jehovah's Witnesses consider secular society to be morally corrupt and under the influence of Satan, and limit their social interaction with non-Witnesses.
In 1881, Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society was formed as an unincorporated administrative agency for the purpose of disseminating tracts, papers, doctrinal treatises and Bibles, with Russell as secretary and William Henry Conley as president. [ 30 ] Three years later, on December 15, 1884, Russell became president of the society when it was legally incorporated in Pennsylvania. [ 32 ] (The society was renamed Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society in September 1896). [ 33 ] Russell wrote many articles, books, pamphlets and sermons, which by his death totaled 50,000 printed pages, with almost 20 million copies of his books printed and distributed around the world. [ 14 ] In 1886, he wrote the first of what would become a six-volume Bible textbook series called Millennial Dawn, later renamed Studies in the Scriptures, [ 34 ] [ 35 ] which presented his fundamental doctrines. As a consequence, the Bible Students were sometimes called Millennial Dawnists.
this is a good story and is true, please read it all the way through until the end!
(after the story, there are some very interesting facts!
the class was asked to go!
I'm with Moshe, I too have been burned many times. I think that in my line of reasoning tho it is a sadness not over my loss but by the fact that they didn't learn and help themselves after I helped them. It can be very depressing.
I would have done the same thing in the McDonalds..but sadly I wouldn't have given them a place to live in my house..
I wish it didn't have to be like that.
Someone gave the suggestion one time to make a few little packets to keep in the car, possibly with a sandwich ( P&J) and a bottle of water..with maybe a address and phone number of a local shelter or charity that may be able to provide housing or food to give them..
I forget what else, it was a good plan I wished I had saved it.

In the JW Proclaimers book it says:
As Brother Russell and his associated studied the scriptures , it did not take them long to see that the God portrayed in the bible is not the god of Christendom. This was an important matter because, as Jesus Christ said people's prospects for eternal life depend on their knowing the only true God and the one whom he sent forth, his chief Agent of salvation.
Their study of God's word helped them to realize that the creator has a personal name and that he makes it possible for humans to know him and to enjoy a close relaionship with him.
The Watchtower of October-November 1881 pointed out:"Jehovah is the name applied to none other than the Supreme Being- our Father, and him whom Jesus called Father and God."
It goes on to say:
As witnesses of Jehovah, C.T. Russell and his associates felt a keen responsibility to expose teachings that misrepresented God, to help lovers of truth realize that these are not based on the Bible. .
Brother Russell wrote in the Watchtower of April 15, 1894:" Evidently it came not from the bible ( immortality of the soul).
He exposed the trinity...
He discovered that the soul was not immortal
He removed the doctrine of Hellfire
Many of JW's teaching today!
During one of his (Russell's) lectures a man was in the audience and became quite moved, it was Frederick Franz, who later a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah's witnesses and eventually became President of the Watchtower society!
In the Watchtower Russell said: "We do not separate ourselves from other christians by taking any distinctive or peculiar name. We are satisfied with the name, Christian, by which the early saints wre known."
How did it come about that we are known today as Jehovah's Witnesses?
In the first century, the manner of life that centered around faith in Jesus Christ (and by extension, the congregation itself) was referred to as "The Way." A number of translations of Acts `8:25 indicate that it was also called "The way of jehovah"." on the other hand some who were outside the congregation derisively referred to it as" The sect of the Nazarenes."
Since Christian came to be used so loosely they decided they needed a distinctive name. They had been called Russellites and Rutherfordites by the clergy. Some called them the "Watchtower People". In time it became increasingly evident that Jehovah's servants tryly did need a distinctive name. 1910 brought them being called "International Bible students association. In 1931 they became Jehovah's Witnesses.
I think the witnesses show they truly believe that he had something to do with laying the groundwork/ helped form the religion!
Snoozy..
ps..I remember years ago, back in the 50' s my Mother in law (JW) told me that the Jehovah Witness religion used to be called "The Way". I never found anyone to go along with this when asking about it years later. Now I know where she got it from. They had in the beginning, years many years before the Jehovah witness name was adopted been called "The Way". (According to the book Proclaimers of God's Kingdom)

We can only offer our own viewpoints, for a more specialized observation I would recommend some kind of family or individual counseling..
Too many people are willing to just throw a marriage away when the spark fades (if there ever was a spark) but marriage is much more than that. It is a sharing , a togetherness. without it you will both be miserable. I would suggest acting one way or another , getting counseling or getting out as soon as possible to save anyone in the family from further unhappiness. Life's too short to waste it complaining about your marrage on a discussion board that has no qualified therapists..
Go to a professional for your help.
If you can't afford it call the United Way, they counsel on a sliding scale.
Snoozy...who also wants to say nice to have you on board...and I only mean to help.
a year or two after leaving the borg.
i was on shaky ground.. any major catastrophe in the world that took place, i thought.
today i can not think of one single event.
Since I have researched to the point that I have no doubt in my mind that it is not the religion to save all mankind that it says it is, there is nothing that could convince me otherwise..therefore nothing..
Unless.....they changed all their beliefs to go along with mine...

a little background on me, i have never been a jw.
my spouse was born and raised in the cult, disfellowshipped as a young adult and is now completely shunned by family still trapped inside.

During the examination on March 17, 1913, Russell admitted that at most he had attended school only seven years of his life at the public school, and that he had left school when he was about 14 years of age. As Counselor Staunton pressed him further, Russell admitted that he knew nothing about Latin and Hebrew, and that he had never taken a course in philosophy or systematic theology, and had never attended schools of higher learning. [77] [78] The Hamilton and Toronto Newspapers reported the claims made by Ross, but made no charges of misconduct on the part of Russell, and instead criticized Ross for his personal behavior and unprofessional demeanor. [79] [80] In answer to Ross's accusations, Russell stated through various printed and public sources that he never claimed knowledge of the Greek language, merely the alphabet. He believed that his ordination was "of God" according to the 'biblical pattern', not requiring any denominational approval, and that his annual election as "Pastor" by over 500 congregations worldwide constituted him as "ordained", or chosen, to be a minister of the gospel. [81]"
Did you know he sold his (inherited) families clothing stores to help finance his "Cause"?
Barbour introduced him to some new views that convinced Russell, amongst other things, that those Christians who were asleep in death would be raised in April, 1878. [29] Russell was moved to devote his life to what he believed were now the last two years before the return of Christ. He sold his five clothing stores for approzimately $300,000. (U.S. $ 7 million in 2010). With Russell's encouragement and financial backing, Barbour wrote an outline of their views in Three Worlds; or Plan of Redemption, published in 1877. A text Russell had written in 1874, The Object and Manner of our Lord's Return, was published the same year. [30] Russell's desire to lead a Christian revival was evidenced by his calling two separate meetings of every Christian leader in Pittsburgh. Russell's ideas, particularly stressing the Rapture's imminence, were rejected both times. [31] [32]
