What Covid-19 Has Taught Us About Models
by Simon inlet's talk about predictions.
"woooh, gaze into my crystal ball ...
woooo!!!".

Simon: We should stop letting people frighten us and start asking hard questions instead.
Excellent advice. That's just what I'm going to do.
George E. P. Box; a British statistician who worked in the areas of quality control, time-series analysis, design of experiments, and Bayesian inference; famously wrote in various books and papers that: "All models are wrong, but some are useful."
Simon, with all due respect, you might want to take a step back and learn what science is all about—what it can do well and what it's limitations are.
Confusing and conflating pandemic models with climate change and political/economic struggles between competing belief systems is neither logical, accurate nor helpful.
Your OP is so full of factual inaccuracies that I really have no idea where to begin, but you might want to take a minute, take a breath and check your facts. If you think you're right with statements like "the ones that couldn't foresee a need for extra medical equipment while a pandemic was making its way across the planet," then you should cite your sources.
Just know it's painfully easy to show how wrong that is. There were plenty of experts that foresaw the need for "extra medical equipment" decades before this current crisis came upon on us. Plenty.

If You're Just Here to spread Your TDS, It's Time to Say Goodbye
by Simon inif all you want to do it deliver a constant whine of "orange man bad" then find someplace else to do.
it.
frankly, i can't be bothered with the bullshit anymore.. honestly, your politics and the whole virtue signalling woke brigade has actually started causing real deaths and was ruining life for many before that.. if you can't control your disease, then i'll do it for you.. it's not open for debate..

LHG: The mountain of nasty remarks about Trump far surpass the remarks about democrats/leftists.
Perhaps. I haven't even attempted to keep track.
I was making the point—which you obviously got—that name calling from either side is divisive and counterproductive to any attempts at civil dialogue and persuasive argumentation.
Thanks!

LGB: But blind hatred, a refusal to respectfully debate/reason, and angry name calling of those who disagree with us politically is the same exact cultish mentality we left behind in jw . org.
You make some really good points. I appreciate your reasoning and the examples you used to make them. Thank you.
I'm curious, what then do you think about comments such as: "Obozo, KILLary, or Libtard"?

Covid 19 - expert says it's hype!
by The Fall Guy inlol!
having commented earlier on experts' differing views, here's a prominent german physician/politician - wolfgang wodarg - who made controvorsial statements that the coronavirus "pandemic" is not out of the ordinary and that italy's mortality rate (8,215 deaths from coronavirus so far) is no greater than it would normally be from the 'flu virus.
in 2017/18 approx 18,000 italians died due to the flu.. the wikipedia section - controversial theses in the 2020 covid 19 crisis - is worth examining.

What kind of person starts a thread on a worldwide pandemic with "LOL!"; then cites Wikipedia as a source for a controversial "expert" whose field is not virology or epidemiology, but is actually mental illnesses; and who is, in fact, a spokesman for the SPD, the Social Democratic Party of Germany?
Seriously!
That being said, here is a direct quote from the WP article about this "expert":
Wolfgang Wodarg's "comments on the COVID 19 pandemic caused criticism from German scientists. Various German media examined Wodarg's claims for accuracy and concluded that his statements would largely contradict the verifiable facts, some statements were neither refutable nor verifiable, but on closer examination proved to be misleading. It would mix up facts that had nothing to do with each other." - (Sources are linked in the article)

The Psychology of Conspiracy Theories: Why Do People Believe Them? By John M. Grohol, Psy.D.
". . . personality traits such as openness to experience, distrust, low agreeability, and Machiavellianism are associated with conspiracy belief . . .people with stronger conspiracy beliefs are more likely to . . . have lower levels of analytic thinking. . . recent research demonstrating that individual narcissism, or a grandiose idea of the self, is positively related to belief in conspiracy theories."Who believes in conspiracies? New research offers a theory - Science Daily
New research by Josh Hart, associate professor of psychology, suggests that people with certain personality traits and cognitive styles are more likely to believe in conspiracy theories. The research was recently published in the Journal of Individual Differences.
"These people tend to be more suspicious, untrusting, eccentric, needing to feel special, with a tendency to regard the world as an inherently dangerous place," Hart said. "They are also more likely to detect meaningful patterns where they might not exist. People who are reluctant to believe in conspiracy theories tend to have the opposite qualities."

Google David Icke and you'll know he's an English conspiracy theorist and a total nutter.
Time Magazine once called him the "paranoid of the decade" in the late 1990s
Here's one of his "books":

It's certainly true that many of the political discussions on this forum disintegrate into people throwing insults at each other, repeating half-truths and outright falsehoods. None of that is good, obviously.
But frankly, after coming out of a cult where none of us were ever allowed to openly disagree, doubt or even question anything coming from the WT leadership—all the way from the top GB members down to the local elders—I think it's extremely healthy that we can disagree and debate with each other on issues such as politics, which was also a forbidden topic in JW-land.
Respectful debate, disagreement and discussion is healthy. It's particularly healing for us as ex-cult members.
It's also a learned skill and doesn't come automatically.
As long as people maintain a measure of civility, I for one believe no topic of public concern should be off-limits; no cows should be too sacred to slaughter; and no idea, custom, or institution should be above criticism.
