Is burying someone on a golf course tacky?
by GabeAthouse intrump's first wife and mother of his children died recently.
they had her buried on his golf course.
do you think this is tacky or a savvy business move since it'll now get them some tax breaks as a cemetery?.

I recall reading, some years ago, that the US Air Force was able to induce 'near death experiences' in pilots who had lost consciousness when using the machine that simulates high speed flight and puts them through increasing G-force. There was a book relating the experiences, if I am not mistaken.
I don't know about life after death, I try not to commit to a belief that I cannot justify but I have no particular desire to deny or disprove anyone else's experiences or beliefs, especially when it comes to the metaphysical. We're only beginning to understand the human brain, but we already know that it can conjure up imaginary experiences that feel real and that it can do some very strange things when it is chemically altered or otherwise damaged. It's not an entirely reliable tool all by itself.
I'm pretty sure that, if there is a god or gods, it isn't anything like the ones we've dreamed up over the course of human existence. At least, I certainly hope not. They sound a lot like a typical human if you gave him unlimited power. And seeing how atrocious we act when we have even limited power, it would be very ugly. Very bad.

The elders in the congregation I was from would not have dreamed of handling microphones or anything like that. They were too important for that kind of work.
That has to be a real wake up call for some of them, if they have to stoop to doing the lowly work that the plebes are supposed to be doing.

Once you have covered the basics of the JW belief system and things the organization did in the past, there isn't much left. Honestly, you could get what you need by visiting JWFacts or any of a number of sites that have extensive information on JW beliefs and the WTS's past. A few hours of reading and you are up-to-date.
From then on, I could see the occasional short commentary when the organization puts out something new or makes changes or, I dunno... buys some liquor. Going through every video and meeting and convention and critiquing everything might keep a few people interested, but it's tough to imagine building a channel around it. To his credit, Evans was having some success with it, until he unmasked himself.

Do you think the Watchtower is right about about eternal punishment of the wicked?
by Vanderhoven7 inatheists believe death is the end of personal existence.
but for those who believe there is life after death, what do you think is the nature of final punishment?
in other words do you agree with the atheists and the watchtower society or is there eternal ongoing conscious punishment awaiting the wicked.

You also have to wonder about what kind of person would demand unending suffering for finite crimes (which that person has the power to undo) from creatures that it designed and created. A human who acted this way would be seen as a sadistic personality and not a pleasant or just person at all. A god who took back the gift of life and ended our existence might seem a bit cold, but much more fair than one who would torment us forever.

Assembly Dramas:They were so bad.... but.... you waited for them to break away from the monotony!
by RULES & REGULATIONS in.
you do remember the four day assemblies... sitting outdoors being fried in the sweltering heat, getting heat stroke in the middle of july in an outdoor baseball stadium.sitting outdoors from 9:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. was so much fun while you wore a suit, long sleeve shirt and a tie while your brain fried.
mom's who had children to take care of,lug strollers, feed all the kids, take them for bathroom breaks and try to not faint from the heat.. the sound and audio was always breaking and barely audible from the wind, airplanes flying over and (if you attended the cicero, illinois circuit )you would smell horse manure from the horse stables next door.. you know that you are a jehovah's witness.... when the only excitement waiting for the drama... where brothers and sisters dress up in ancient cloths, fake beards, fake rocks and fake soldier uniforms and wave their hands incessantly to pretend that they are acting out a drama.the excitement was unbearable!.

Simon: The one drama that was awesome was when the pitch was raised a few feet and during the part of the drama where an earthquake swallowed some unfaithful from the OT (I can't even remember), they slipped down the side of it and it gave the appearance that the earth was actually swallowing them.
I remember that drama, but we saw it at the Belmont Racetrack in New York. That wasn't a bad venue for the summer conventions, since there was good shade and some nice areas where the seats were arranged in small fenced sections (6 seats to each, I think). A family of five or six could have one of those to themselves and it wasn't a bad way to spend the convention.... assuming you got there early enough to reserve one.
Like others here, I remember that the dramas were something we looked forward to because it broke up the monotony of one talk after another. I don't think I cared that the costumes were a bit cheap looking and the acting was often poor; I wasn't expecting a fancy and expensive presentation and we knew that it was done by people donating time and effort to build the sets and costumes and to do the acting.
But mostly, we were happy for a reprieve from the endless talk talk talk...

LOL. "It has been observed."
Translation: we know that most of you could make it in person, but you'd rather listen in on Zoom in your pajamas with the camera turned off. But we can't prove it, so we'll go with the vague blanket statement from anonymous "observers," even if it gives the impression that you're all a bunch of opportunistic tattle-tales. Then we'll pretend that God is offended that you're not making enough of a sacrifice to attend the meetings and lay the guilt on nice and thick. After all, we don't want to you leave! Also, please donate more, we're pretty tight on cash. Jehovah bless you all with our most sincere gratitude and love!

Why not ask an elder at her congregation? After all, if your wife is wrong, she risks being called to a judicial committee. At the very least, there will be some stigma attached to that if others in the congregation find out. At worst, she could be reproved or disfellowshipped.
If she isn't comfortable asking that question of an elder, then that by itself should be an indication that things are not quite right, isn't it?

They could have just used 2 Peter 3:10:
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
