I have a friend who hates the term, because it is so overused today. I think it's a fad. At the moment, it's a way to get sympathetic attention and make demands on others to stop certain behavior or talk. At some point, the pendulum will swing the other way, and it will be seen as an admission of weakness, and then no one will want to admit being triggered by anything.

Does anyone else get “triggered” when somebody uses the word “triggered”?

Lloyd’s new book
by jwfacts ini see there has already been discussion over lloyd’s new book how to leave the jehovah's witnesses.
this includes discussion around his personality, motives and financial gains.
i have written a foreword for this book, because it is an important topic that has not been covered in such a complete format before.

you can't take every criticism so personally that you obsess over it and need to hunt people down because of it.
Lloyd: "Hold my beer."
don't do things that make you a laughing stock and subject for ridicule.
Lloyd: "Hold this other beer, too."
And if you take money off people, I think you owe a degree of accountability...
Lloyd: *hands you a case of beer* "This might be a long afternoon..."

I assume that they mean a claim that is presented as factual, but is false. Leave it to the legal system to find a complicated way to say "a lie." I'm guessing that the statement above is a poor translation of the original.
And I agree, it seems unusual that a criminal defendant would pay damages (as opposed to restitution). Typically, a criminal defendant may face fines that must be paid, but these are paid to the state, and I'm not aware of a system in the USA where the victim can apply to the government to receive any kind of payment in such a case. Evans may be referring to the demand for 3,000 Euro in his
extortion letterlegal notification. -

I think he'll go through with it, because in the end he can pretend that the system failed him. Or, if through some miracle any of it ends with a verdict in his favor, he can use that to claim that he has been vindicated. But as you say, he has painted himself into a corner. I don't see a way that this ends well for him, because there doesn't appear to be a scenario where he can silence his critics. And since he cannot bear to ignore them, he will instead continue to empower them, making it more likely that people who support him will find out who he really is and take their money elsewhere.
I mean, imagine that the court in Croatia delivered guilty verdicts against the seven. What happens next? Nothing. Well, here is what happens- every time one of them criticizes him, he will look powerless. What will he do, demand that they turn themselves in? Threaten to file another toothless criminal complaint? Appeal to the Hague? Nothing. He cannot do anything. And that is if he somehow got the best outcome, which is virtually guaranteed not to happen.

Evans seems to be doing it as theatre, for the benefit of his remaining supporters. To show how effective it has been, the group of defendants did a live stream where they mocked him mercilessly for more than an hour.
I don't think he's responded. No doubt he will assure his followers that additional pages have been added to THE LITIGATION, and that his tireless efforts to protect the future of professional activism proceed apace.

Are You Concerned About Inflation?
by Simon ini saw a statistic the other day that something like 25% of all the debt that the us has incurred since 1776 was created in the last 12 months.
that's because they have printed so much currency and instead of letting that stop them, they are going to continue printing more to go on a spending spree on crazy green-new-deal schemes and union handouts.. does anyone think that this can be anything other than inflationary?
they are effectively stealing the wealth of everyone to then hand money out to people.

I believe the world never really recovered from the 2008 financial crisis.
I think that is when we needed to do two things in the USA:
1. Raise interest rates and force people and companies to be more responsible with spending decisions.
2. Recognize the danger in any company becoming "too big to fail" and making sure that could no longer happen.
We didn't do either. Bad fiscal decisions kept being made because borrowing was so easy. Corporations have continued to grow larger and swallow up any attempts at competition, thus creating massive mega-companies that can harm the economy if they are mismanaged.
Those aren't the only mistakes being made, but they create the environment in which an economic downturn has the capacity to become much worse and much more difficult to deal with.

Evans had been known (esp from posters here who were among the first to spot it) for being a toxic bully.
I think this is important, because it counters the narrative that he is being attacked because he is popular or influential. People have reason to dislike him, and it's his own actions and words in the past that are the cause. There are old topics here where people are pointing out exactly the flaws that have led to his current situation, both his actions that precipitated this scandal and his actions and words in trying to limit or control the damage.
Those older comments and statements are the most damning ones now. Some of them seem prescient, given how things have turned out, but Lloyd was always Lloyd. And being a tireless and ambitious person with a willingness to bully others into silence is disturbingly effective. Had Evans not set fire to his own reputation, he would still have a very solid and vocal (and financially rewarding) base of support. That, more than anything, speaks to how he built a cultish following.
I'm glad Kim found this forum, because people here laid the foundation for her to be able to do what she did without being completely swallowed up by Evans's followers. Kudos to everyone who was here through all of that and spoke up in the face of a very loud bully and his devoted supporters.

That may be the creepiest part of the whole thing, and it indicates how disconnected he may be from reality. I think he wants to try to add to the impact of his statements by using examples that generate sympathy, but he doesn't seem to know how to put it in the right words. So you get tone-deaf statements about how his critics don't care about his kids, or how being pantsed on the internet is far worse than losing his mother to cancer. Even his supporters must be cringing to read some of this stuff... I guess they are, because their number keeps shrinking.

It's a spoonful of bad-tasting medicine, but it is necessary. When interest rates are as low as they can possibly get, then decades of dealing with economic downturns by lowering interest rates comes to a sudden end. Now we have to pay for the decades of easy money and irresponsible spending.
Well, the regular folks do, anyway. The government can continue to fumble its way along, running massive deficits and patting itself on the back when this year's deficit is lower than last year's (because then you can say "we lowered the deficit", which is another way of saying "I was almost as criminally irresponsible as last year, but not quite"). But the rest of us will have to heed the wake-up call, and many will be better off for it... as long as it is someone else's job that is eliminated by the low spending.

That's his attempt at pushing back against any implication or accusation of abuse. It also demonstrates how tone-deaf he is.
