  Will You Make Room for Pioneering?

  regardless of scriptural implications, creating special categories of service such as colporteur, pioneer, special pioneer, etc.

  was a brilliant move.. the prestige, status and few little perks associated with those committing to being full-time workers is miniscule compensation for their sacrifice of time, lifestyle, income and educational opportunities.. yes, the hour requirements have dropped on several occasions.

  how many on the board know that the regular pioneer requirement was once 150 hours a month, then 1200 hours a year, than 1000, now 90-vacation/assembly time?.

  It's my understanding that the hours for a regular pioneer are now 75 / month and an auxillary's hours are 50 / month.

  ibsa was recently closed down.

  the reports and financial statements are fairly lengthy documents.

  61,000,000 * how many countries? = ???

  Plus the roughly $250,000,000 from the PA corp. alone that was posted the other day on the board for the 1997/1998 financial period.

  So just for kicks, using round numbers and rounding down.

  If each country averages 50,000,000 / year in assets and there are 100 countries that the JW's have assets in thats $5 BILLION!

  Ok, maybe I'm a little high.

  If each country averages 25,000,000 / year in assets and there are 50 countries that the JW's have assets in thats $1.25 BILLION!

  Song of Solomon - YEAH BABY

  i just reread song of solomon for the first time in over ten years.

  despite using the nwt, which butchers most biblical poetry to admiration, i was nevertheless struck its beauty.

  if you haven't read it, it is about a shepherd's love for one of solomon's concubines, and it evokes a delicious, aching, tantalising, desire - yup really.

  When I was a young lad at the Kingdom Hall, I would open my bible to the Song of Solomen, while everyone else was studying rather mundane things. Those scriptures gave me great joy.

  It's so nice to recognize that the things that I did to ignore the boredom of the hall are just normal and I'm not alone!!

  I feel like I have to defend JanG here. Nobody forces you to read the posts. If you click in and scroll down and see that it's too much then click out just as easily.

  I have only been on this board for a relatively short time but I've figured out how to flip between the first screen and the other screens. I believe that right now we have 5-20 topic screens for just the last day. Switching between them is not that difficult a concept.

  I read the entire thing that JanG took the time to write today. I found it to be fascinating and I'm glad that there are people that research and take time to put together interesting material.

  SAVING SEATS

  taking a brief break from my 'deceptive jw elders' series, i thought about conventions and recalled the annual exhortation from the congregation service meetings and the kingdom ministry about not saving seats.. in the early 1970s, my wife was pregnant with our second child.

  we were attending the disctrict convention at the oakland, california coliseum where the oakland raiders and oakland a's teams play.

  the stadium hold about 70,000 give or take 5,000 with extra seats on the field.. during the summer in the bay area, sitting all day in the sun listening to speakers you can barely understand due to planes flying overhead, poor sound system, and crying babies, becomes a tortureous event.

  They are ALWAYS hot! Why do they have to be right in the middle of the summer? Can't they be in the Spring or the fall? I NEVER understood why we had to sit in the heat and bake, if you were lucky you sat under a tarp (I never did) or bring an umbrella (yes).

  Of course, you always had to watch that there wasn't a talk about the umbrellas blocking anyones view and they HAD to come down for the dramas, of course.
