D.i.y atomic bombs
by haujobbz in.
its seems that according to statistics uranium or plutonium could easily be smuggled and used by terrorists almost anywhere to assemble a weapon of mass destruction.. also as u know it seems to be easy when you got the simple materials to assemble an atom bomb according to numerous sources.. is this true that it is very simple to build a an atom bomb, reminds me of the forth protocol

Evolution or creation?
by haujobbz in.
if i had to answer this i suppose i would say im not sure which one i believe, i have always wondered why the universe is so huge and always wondered what its role is and how it affects us.. im always fascinated when i look up at the sky and think to myself i feel so small in such a huge universe a sought of cold isolated feeling is what i experience and then i think, i wonder why this planet came to support life after all it was supposedly all happened by chance.. dont get me wrong im no scientist but i think i need more convincing regarding evolution.. can anyone help regarding these questions

Yawn ,Sleepy awakes from his slumber.
Just wanted to throw this in.
I have no problem with evolutionary theory ,it describes who we see nature working today , and assumes this carries back down into the distant past , without much interference.Thats ok, but a few things niggle me.
Lets take for example the evolution of speech.
It has been said that evolution of speech must have taken a very long time to occour and was very gradual process.
A little bit at a time over millions of years . First a grunt ,then a cry until we have the flipping Oxford dictionary on English words.
So obviously by the time people could talk fluidly like today, they were very different to the non-talking creatures they came from to such an extent they we didnt know we related to the animals but were a higher being.
Lets consider issues about proving this.
Can anyone show what the many thousands of stages of speech would be if it has developed very slowly over thousands and thousands of years? How each stage would be an advantage and of what use they would be to an undeveloped people and civilitation.
Regarding the "chance" changes in the human brain that would have taken place and the nerve and mucle centres that control speech can they show that many small alterations and defects to the speech centres in the brain today only result in little changes in speaking ability and comprehension?
Do current well known defects and damage to the brain result in only small differences in speech patterns?
What numerous small changes to speech centres would be continually advantageous to human-like creatures but not so small that they would not make a difference ,and how many of these are divisible into thousands and thousands of years?
If changes are small how are how are they an advantage and what prevents digression back to previous states?
What types of environment could only direct these changes in the human line not others?
What types of environments are needed to select small changes continually and causes extinction of other related species without these advantages in their family line?
In fact theses question can apply to all the brain functions we have.
I'm not saying that any of this proves it didn't happen that way .But at the moment a lot of our statements about how evolution works and what has happened biologically in the past are conjecture based on neat models that are not fully proved to have worked uniformly through out the entire history of earth.
Through out the last few hundred year scientist have gone through many models as regard the way atoms and the universe works. They have tested models and as evidence has become easier to find due to better technology they have had to revise their models to continually fit in.
Often very small measurements were needed in order to show a current model to be flawed.
Physicists have had the luxury of being able to test out many of there ideas and to view the universe with ever greater clarity. Looking back in time and looking into the micro world.
The same has not been so true with looking back into earths evolutionary past. It is not so easy to measure this past as much of it no longer remains.
We can only build a picture with a the few remains around today.
How do we know that current models really work unless they can be fully tested?
Should we be so confident that are current ideas are so correct?
This does not mean that we should invoke some God or other as a cause but that we should continually question what we think we know and ask why and how do we know it?

Man can live again.
by sleepy in.
i believe that it is possible for us to live again after we die.this has nothing to do with relgion it just seams to make sense to me , although it doesn't mean that we will, only that it is possible.. this is based on the following reasoning .if our conciousness us just a function of our brain, and our brain is just a pattern of atoms, then all that needs to happen is a recreation of this pattern.. computers are getting more powerful, maybe sometime in the future we could map an entire brain and recreate it in a test tube.maybe the dna of dead people could be used to recreate them.
since the specific birth of yourself happened and your particular brain was "created" there is no reason it can not happen again with the right conditions, even naturaly.. if the brain is more than just what we think it is, and has an existance like a soul or is an effect like gravity caused by the physical makeup of the brian interacting with something else , then it should still be possible to live again if the brain is recreated.. whether this will ever happen i dont know.

What is the truth?
by sleepy inwe spent so much time going on about "the truth" as witnesses , we thought we had the universe all sorted out .all those pillars of truth have now crumbled to dust.so what is "the truth"?.
that is , what is the correct understanding of life the universe and everything?.
how did the universe get here?what is conciousness and how does it work?is there a why or just a how?.

Does knowing the "truth" matter at all , in fact is it even possible and is there a universal truth about matters that aplies to everyone , or are things different for each person?
People often talk about facts "evolution is a fact, God is a fact".How sure can we be of these things?Everything we know about the universe has to first go through our sensory inputs and be interpreted by our brians. How trustworthy is this mechanism and do we use it properly? Can we even trust our own memories and minds ?Should we be following our emotions or our logic in working things out?
The more I look at it the further away any "truth" seems to be.I would love to know the truth, but if I had it I wonder, would I like it?

Does emotion really mean anything?
by sleepy inlets for a moment agree that we a evolved and no god was involved in the matter.we were not created in gods image and are not endowed with his qualities.. do the emotions we feel mean anything or are they just an illusion without true meaning?for example is the more intense feeling of love toward your family just a leftover from evolution, where maybe at one time it served to keep you in a pack so you were safe from harm?is a special attatchment to blood relations really benifical anymore?.
why do we have a need to be loved or to love or in fact do we?are happiness a saddness just a chance fluke of nature that happen to fall in place to fit cetain happenings in our lives?maybe some people feel happy at things that sadden us because of natural variation not evilness on their part?.
just why exactly and how did humans come to posess emotions?
