  i see this phrase a lot: "the indication of a cult is what happens when you leave.

  " i'm not sure where that originated, but it is a faulty categorization.

  "cult" is almost always used in a derogatory way.

  But most organizations / institutions also hit every one of those boxes. It's too simplistic to be useful.

  It's just a convenient way for "experts" on cults to sell cult awareness books.

  IMO trying to make out that JWs are a cult is over-egging the pudding, and isn't helpful.

  They are a traditional orthodox christian group that has some high-control practices that often causes their followers to put their group membership ahead of their own friends and family relationships.

  They are not going to see a comet and all drink cool-aid thinking it's Jesus coming to pick them up in his spaceship.

  At some point, "I was brought up as a Jehovahs Witness" is just a footnote to your life, it's not the equivalent of being vegan (you know, that you have to tell everyone about it).

  i remember him on this site when he was called cedars and had jw survey.. straightaway i noticed he could not accept suggestions.. the time i knew he was dangerous was when his group aawa added people to their fb group without their permission and were outed.. he refused to close the fb page (whilst celebrating 1300 members joining in a few days).

  one member complained and was subsequently disfellowshipped, which could easily have been avoided.. three week's after launching, the fb page was closed down.

  from that moment i knew james lloyd evans was dangerous.. when did you realise he not good?.

  He was an annoying little cunt from the off - endless pathetic "tricks" to claim he won any argument, and of course asking people for money.

  When he started sending emails threatening to ruin my reputation if things weren't done as he wanted, and of course the AAWA debacle, there was no doubts what he was - an bullying grifter.

  Hey Lloyd, how's my reputation looking now compared to yours? Who has 20+ years of integrity and who was just in it for the money? Who's sustained a successful marriage for coming up to 30 years, and who's the low-life scumbag who pays women to cheat on his wife and treats her like shit?

  Being a real man doesn't actually take any effort. I don't know why you couldn't manage it.

  Do they know that there's this thing called the internet? You can do video chat over it. Channels massively bigger than theirs do it all the time. It's amazing.

  Of course it does remove the need for so much money changing hands ...

  I suspect that Novosel provided the services that Lloyd paid for, and no more. Lloyd probably didn't pay them for anything more than what was needed to provide the pretence that there was a lawsuit. i.e. a legal letterhead. It was literally the closest law-firm in the nearest town. Hardly the international case that he portrayed it as. Lloyd wasted some money and got nothing but ridicule and more damage to his already piss-poor reputation. Too bad, so sad.

  Someone on twitter point out, that on his Facebook page he wrote that quote in his Intro: "The grave will supply plenty of time for silence." I had never noticed that.

  I wonder how this ultimately ends? I can't see him digging deep and working hard to rebuild anything, and there are usually already people occupying space in whatever grifts are possible that he'd need to compete with (the exJW community was wide open for someone like him to take advantage of).

  Doing a mundane menial 9-5 job? I can't see him doing that, but I don't know anything else he'd be qualified to do (not that he'd be really capable of that).

  So how does it end? I wouldn't be surprised if I opened the internet one day and read he's overdosed or blown his brains out.

  If I ever do, I'll re-use the same phrase: too bad, so sad, bye bye

  I think most people's definition of "cult" is that they believe whacky things and often have the idea that the end times are coming soon. But then most religions would fit that.

  I don't think JWs are what most people would recognize to be a cult, high-control, but not really extreme - just a variation of the regular christian belief system.

  As someone mentioned earlier - "I can't be expected to control myself" is the rapists "excuse" (not an excuse at all). It's BS. It's always a choice.

  It's a choice to regularly cheat, and to use prostitutes, and to do it in countries with real problems of sex-trafficking and sex-tourists who don't care about the victims.

  Any "activism" you might do for CSA victims starts to look more like an effort to clean your ledger or worse, a way to access vulnerable people. The least worst option is that it was just an opportunity to profit financially and turn it into a money-making endeavour.

  Nah, that would require some amount of introspection. If he ever did go to therapy, he'd end up threatening that the therapist will be added to the litigation unless they affirm his opinion about everything.

  He won't close his patreon - he has control of it and it's free money. He'll post the odd excuse of why he's unable to produce any videos because he's so busy since, erm, he shut down his company ... wouldn't he have more free time? odd right, almost like it's all bullshit!

  Remember the scene from Liar Liar, where Jim Carey have blue pen written all over his face? I need to make one of Lloyd but with "Kim!" instead.
