Meeting last night. West coast. Nothing like this mentioned. Could be regional, or a misunderstanding. Or possibly delayed.

It is OFFICIAL they want MORE MONEY : NEW ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
by raymond frantz ini just came back from the meeting .although the local announcements have been abolished recently as an item for the second part , an elder came on the platform to announce that the society needs more money and there is a letter on the noticeboard for all the congragation to read to this effect.
although the announcement was read half heartedly (this elder's daughter is an apostate ,it looks like he knows what's going on) the implictions are dramatic .
the society in brief, requests any brother or sister with funds sitting on personal accounts to loan them to the society ,he didn't go into any specifics but i will take a picture of the letter next time and make it available here .. i'm not amazed that they're asking for money ,i thought it will happen sooner or later .what i'm amazed is that 99% of the congragation are oblivious to the financial crisis that the society finds itself these days and the reasons why .i can see the future now .the watchtower will be the fist part of the babylon the great to go down in a blaze of scandals and financial troubles !.

I am not so convinced that the reasons presented can point to a shortfall for the CCJW's. also, I keep hearing about hedge funds and stock markey play. Forgive me if I am late on this, but I would love to see the links. I am sure this trading has to be public right? I don't mean something that is donated that they may or may not liquidate. I mean stock trading and hedge fund managing or placement.
I mean I would LOVE to get my hands on some evidence of that. Especially if it is enough to be mentioned as a reason why they have to send out this letter.
I have some dough stashed away, maybe I can loan it to them at....what do the congregations pay....3%? Think they will go for it? Should be safer than treasury bonds right?

Greetings! From an Existent JW!
by Ethos ini'd like extend a greeting to all members of jwn.
i've been a lurking by-stander of this forum for approximately 6 months.
i think this forum's best moments can be attributed to the involvement of actual jw's in doctrinaire discussions and to heated (though not always dialectic) debates.

6112 posts and let me assure you, nobody is trying to shame you. A selfcentrist viewpoint is yours for the taking my friend. Let me know how that works out.
There are no rules regarding civility, warm welcomes, or hygene. You are free to be as you please. Most people however say hi, try not to contradict themselves and their reason for contributing so much to a community as you have here, and shower.
Nothing Ethos has said I felt was disrespectful, itching for a fight, or stating that he would correct you. So why the hostility?

How Many Friends Did You Lose Over This Election?
by JustMeNonJDub ini lost one, and i am saddened by it.
i may disagree with friends over politics and/or religion, but the only reason i would cut off a friend is if they betrayed me.
anyone else lost friends or cut off friends because of politics or religion?.

I think in the Western world it is a uniquly American thing to actually lose a friend over who you may vote for. How insane does that even sound. You didn't start beating your kids, you didn't take up crack, you haven't joined a cult of kool-aid drinking morons, you haven't started shooting pigeons in the street because it is your inaliable right to do so.......you just cast a vote for one person over another to receive a job.
Didn't sound like much of a friend. You talk politics with the wrong person out here, and its similar to being in from of a Pharisaical elder who just wants you to acquiese.
Did I mention I can't spell worth a damn?

^^^Good Grief man. Did anything in this mans post give you any cause for that rant? Why not deal with people as they come and respond to what they actually say and do, not what you expect them to. Does that sound familiar? You don't have to respond to anyone you don't want to.
In addition, I love that a JW comes on here, and is reminded they should not be here. Hilarious! Way to reach out. Way to encourage free thinking, and engender communication and discussions that could win people to your viewpoint.
This isn't a sandbox, its a discussion board. The mere suggestion that a blanket statement like "JWN members live by a much higher standard than JW's", is any different than the statements that you yourself resent, is not very itellectually honest.
You have some great posts BOTR. A very interesting way of looking at things. Certainly I have read more than one of them. This one is a little beneath your normal level. Too much caffeine today man?
Come on home slice.

So Do You Think The Economy Will Change For The Better, Remain The Same Or Get Worse?

I think its hilarious that so many people think that the "Muslim, Kenyan, gay guy" back in office is tha harbinger of doom. I think the Republicans mastery in getting people to vote against their own actual interests is one of the greatest manipulations of our time.
Anyways, my buisness is related to housing, and 2013 will be a hard year for foreclosures. There will be TONS of them so get out your checkbooks and buy something if your local economy reflects the national trend. After that, things will slowly recede.
China is ina mess, and so is Europe, but its not likely hyperinflation will result either way in a meaningful way. Those with the power, won't let their money become worthless.
Just my 2 cents.

@ron. Hey man do you have any proof of the Society using congregation donations to play the stock market? It just sounds a little out in left field.

Info on publisher cards???
by OneDayillBeFree inso i moved to another hall to better help me fade.
so far it's been great although it is a very long and annoying process!
so i'm very good friends with the coordinating elder in the new hall since we've known each other for years and so instead of mailing them to the other hall he decided to pass them on to my dad so he could give them to me and for me to give them to the other hall.

If you don't mind me asking, what is it you have found is actually on them that you feel isn't proper? No specifics of course.
Personally, I think you are a little close to the situation with your dad involved, and if you are fading trying to keep it together, losing your cards might not be a good thing. I suppose you could just hand them to them opened, and ask why they would keep such personal and private information on you and pass it on to strangers. But that would just be for yourself.

Using scripture as the touchstone, is it really possible to compare today's method of disfellowshipping with the extreme example mentioned in scripture? I am all for "disfellowshipping" a child molestor from the congregation for example, but would not feel the same about someone who openly disagreed with the GB via the written instruction of the branch.
The key we seem to forget could be this. The primitive Christians, had holy spirit and it operated upon them in a variety of miraculous ways. They could pray and pass it on and so forth. The men today have no such relationship to the spirit. We have no idea at all of their "approved" state before God, or who really appointed them. Therefore, to be able to give them the power to cut you off from everyone you have ever known (a practice questionable scripturally in and of itself), is not parallel to the first Century.
There is more, but I can wait for the thread. Of course you and I already agree that some "rules" we can bend for the sake of what we feel is right. otherwise, we would not be here having a discussion of course.
