It was actually rather disturbing how that came so easily after almost 20 years of not doing it.

No, I was the one who did the "role play" of going Door-to-Door™ with the host.

What Was The Effect of You Knowing Hypocritical JW's?
by LoisLane looking for Superman in(1) did it cause you to leave sooner than you might have, otherwise.. (2) it didn't bother you enough to do anything about it.
hey, we are all imperfect.. (3) did you want to prove you were better than they, and nothing they could do or say, was going to stumble you.. (4) they stumbled me, probably as much i stumbled them.
we all know it's an old boy's club and we are not going to tell on each other.. loislane.

Hypocrisy never sits well with me. We were raised to cherish honesty as one of the highest values, and when someone is being hypocritical it demonstrates a deeply self-deluded state, in thinking that it's perfectly fine for them to behave in a manner that they tell everyone else would be wrong, and actually shows how poorly they regard others in believing that other people are too stupid to see through their crap.
It didn't bother me so much when JWs outside my family behaved that way, because I didn't know what went on in their private lives really, but when my dad would drag my mom, siblings and I up on the platform and demonstrate how a Family Study™ was supposed to be conducted, I'd be livid with him for weeks afterward, because we never actually *had* a Family Study™ as a matter of routine. I hated being forced to pretend we were something we were not. It felt like I was lying in Jehovah's house, and like Achan or Ananias and Sapphira, we'd be found out as pretenders and swiftly be brought to divine justice.

I left a lot of details out of my experience, for the sake of brevity, but I quite enjoyed talking with the host. I'd been corresponding with him recently and sending him little tidbits here and there, like the shunning video that cedars posted, and a PDF of the Learn from the Great Teacher book, because he really has an issue with the indoctrination of children.

This website finally helped me understand the claim of 100% failure rate
by ILoveTTATT inup to about 5 minutes ago... i still had the notion that maybe jw's predicted something and got it right... that the league of nations was going to rise and become the united nations.
i think that jw prophecies/predictions are like a shotgun: shoots many projectiles, one of them has got to hit.
you cannot predict 5 different things and then, when one of them gets partly fulfilled, drop the other 4.5 things, change the 1/2 thing you predicted that was right and make it seem like that was the only thing you predicted, and make the entire one point fit after the fact.. reading watchtower literature throughout the years (1879 till now), and then coming here and getting awesome explanations from people like leolaia and other researchers, i finally understand the claim that most apostate websites make: the wt has a 100% prediction failure rate.. they were lucky that something big happened in 1914... but now i am much wiser and i know that everything they predicted for 1914 did not turn out as they predicted... 1914 has been a date with many different hats... from the start of armageddon, to the beginning of the last days... etc.... thank you very much jwn for completely opening my mind.

The only thing the WTS ever got right was when Rutherford said "Religion is a snare and a racket."

Does it show a deplorable lack of faith to have a bucket list?
by compound complex inas a baby boomer making the best of every day, i have a casual list of things i want to do before i, well .
we all know about the promises made, and, gee whiz, i want to be a good and faithful boy.
but i'm beginning to wonder if i should buy a few more baskets to put my eggs in.

JWs have bucket lists after a fashion, that include all the things they ever really wanted to do, but put off doing until After Armageddon™.
Why shouldn't you have a list where you permit yourself to do stuff you really want to do, and actually set about doing them?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, JD. It was nice that your uncle's version of the Funeral Discourse paid your dad the respect all JWs should have.
Nice to see you around - maybe PM Simon to see if you can start topics again. He's been tinkering with the site a bit and weird stuff has happened. Good times. lol

sunday dinner with mom was a hoot...too bad she is sooooo brainwashed.....
by Lied2NoMore ini went to meeting sunday with the family to sit thru drivel of public talk and wt.
i actually held a wt and followed along!
like most here was able to pick out all the lies, deceptions and utter rediculousness of wt trying to say..."we didn't have it right before and we admitt it, but boy, we sure got it right now, even though we never have had anything right before".....you know....so fast forward to dinner with my sadly very mentally ill mother, who for lack of any intellect in the past was a very emotionally, mentally and physically abusive to me and my siblings, and a mental specimen of exactly what wt wants out of its adherents, leans to me and says, "the wt lately has been admitting how they have had things wrong in the past, it really is refreshing to see the changes which tell us how close we are.

It doesn't matter what the WT publishes. Really it doesn't matter one bit. What it boils down to is LOYALTY to the WTS, no matter what. They can lie their faces off, they can harbor pedophiles, they can belong to the UN as an NGO for 10 years without letting JWs know about it, they can allow wives to be abused by their husbands and children by their parents, as long as they are loyal to the WTS, it's all good as far as JWs are concerned.
