I attended a Gilead School graduation at the Stanley Theater when I was 16 or 17. Ulysses Glass was one of the speakers that day.

I'm all in favor of calling the WT and Awake! one of the most popular magazines. It's very popular with cat owners and bird owners, for collecting their pets' crap in litter boxes and bird cages all over the globe.

1 John 4:1-3 ~ Which category that the JW/ WTB$ belongs to?
by UBM101 indear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from god, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2 this is how you can recognize the spirit of god: every spirit that acknowledges that jesus christ has come in the flesh is from god, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge jesus is not from god.
this is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.. niv.

The WTS does not recognize individual JWs' ability to "test" what the WTS publishes.
The WTS tells JWs to trust in the governing body to do all the thinking for them.
People who try to put the WTS's words to the test, end up being branded as Apostates™.

What benefit has any individual received from money that was donated to the Watchtower's World Wide Work?
The only people who have ever benefitted are the ones at the top of the dog pile.
$h!t is what collects at the bottom of the dog pile, and that's what your average JW gets out of the World Wide Work fund.

There are several articles in the bound volumes about atheists/agnostics becoming JWs.
*** w88 3/1 p. 32 “I’m No Longer an Atheist!” ***
“I’m No Longer an Atheist!”
“I met a woman from Poland who is a professor,” reports a missionary in Senegal, Africa. “We had a long discussion, and I endeavored to answer her many questions.” The professor refused a publication designed for Bible study, explaining: “I am an atheist. That book does not interest me at all.” However, she did accept the book Life—How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation?
“When I returned the following week,” the missionary reports, “she excitedly told me that she had read the book from cover to cover. When I proposed examining the Creation book with her, she replied: ‘But I have no need to study that book now! I have read it entirely, and it has completely changed my mind—I’m no longer an atheist! Now I would like for you to study that red book you first showed me, along with the Bible!’”
Do you know someone who is an atheist or perhaps questions the truthfulness of the Bible? Why not send that person a gift copy of Life—How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation? You can do so by simply filling in and mailing the coupon below, enclosing just $2.50 with the coupon.
Please send, postpaid, a gift copy of the 256-page book Life—How Did It Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation? as well as a letter explaining that it is a gift from _______________ (your name). I enclose $2.50 (U.S.).

*** g99 12/8 p. 32 An Atheist Finds Answers ***
An Atheist Finds Answers
“THE articles published in your Watchtower and Awake! magazines are incredible! Your latest issues are irresistible! They answer very many questions and also give peace of mind.”
So stated a reader from south India. He was born a Hindu, but his father raised him as an atheist. He says: “I found no purpose in life. Darwin’s theory of evolution sounded absurd. For years questions have taunted me, such as Who is God? Why is this world corrupt? Where do we go after death? Are wicked spirits real?”
Having found the answers to his questions in The Watchtower and Awake! this reader subscribed to both magazines, sent gift subscriptions to his sister, and now passes on the magazines to people he meets. Being a photographer and an artist, he expressed appreciation for the magazines’ artwork, which “speaks for itself.” By reading these fine magazines, you can join the millions worldwide who have had their questions answered and have gained peace of mind.
If you would like more information about God and his purpose for us, we would be happy to send you free of charge the widely distributed brochure Does God Really Care About Us? Just fill in the accompanying coupon and mail it to the address shown there or to an appropriate address listed on page 5 of this magazine.
*** w81 3/15 p. 32 A Sincere Atheist ***
A Sincere Atheist
The following letter was received at the Toronto, Canada, branch office of the Watch Tower Society: “For all my adult life I have been a ‘sincere’ atheist, believing firmly in an evolution supported by all my private studies of chemistry, physics, . . . etc.
“Lately I was . . . offered a subscription to your ‘Watchtower’ and ‘Awake!’ Reading these and a number of your books, I began to realize that I was wrong, that there had to be a Creator.”
Have you thoroughly investigated whether the theory of evolution has a real foundation in fact? Are you willing to check it out? You can do so in the 192-page book “Did Man Get Here by Evolution or by Creation?”
Please send, postpaid, the hardbound book “Did Man Get Here by Evolution or by Creation?” I enclose 60 cents (U.S.).

Effect of family life (me, wife and young boy) if I am df / da and wife zealous jw
by Daniel1555 ini have a question and hope to hear some experiences of you who went or are going through this situation:.
actually for several reasons (blood policy, disfellowshipping policy and some more) my conscience is telling me quite strongly, that i should not anymore be a part of that organization.. my wife and even elders know about my doubts (except blood policy).
however i continue to join the meetings actually just to please my wife and to be together with our baby boy.

You're probably not an atheist at this point, but I do highly recommend that you listen to the a podcast archived on The Thinking Atheist forum, called Secular Parenting, with Dale McGowan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_gxhPj_e-GU
McGowan has written books about raising kids outside of religious construct, such as Parenting Beyond Belief, and Raising Freethinkers. He acknowledges in the podcast that when one parent leaves the JWs, it's one of the most extreme and difficult situations to be in as a parent.
One question I have for you, is how do you plan to handle the 'blood thing' if it were to come up with your little boy? Could you allow your wife's JW beliefs to override your own, if a doctor told you that your son needed a blood transfusion?

wafflesandpancakes:
@scully -- sorry but the reason i asked is because i read some posts here about moral scandals in jws and i was shocked, they always seemed prudish, at least the ones i know of. and by misconduct i didn't mean only premarital sex. so "overly familiar interest in pre-marital sex"? i think that's a tad too specific now doesn't it? again, sorry if my question is too much for you. just don't answer if you don't want too. thanks!
My point is this, since you seem to be a bit thick:
You wouldn't walk up to random strangers and ask them what they do/did in the privacy of their bedrooms, and if you walked up to me on the street and asked me what I did in the privacy of my bedroom, I'd tell you to piss off. Just because you are some anonymous troll on the Internet doesn't mean that you have the right to ask people about their private business - it's none of YOUR business.
Your question is certainly NOT "too much" for me. You, on the other hand, are asking quite a lot from the people who post here, imo. Clearly, you've never heard of "boundaries".
You've made 3 whole posts on this forum in the two months since you joined. Personally, I don't feel that you've earned the right to have people share such intimate details of their lives. What private details about yourself are you prepared to divulge to us?

What business is it of yours?
You've made two posts since you joined, and both demonstrate an overly familiar interest in pre-marital sex.
You're kind of creepy, imo.

Is Richard Dawkins giving atheists a bad name?
by slimboyfat inhe just can't seem to stop himself taunting "these muslims" or "some muslim or other".
among his favourite taunts are:.
"all the world's muslims have fewer nobel prizes than trinity college, cambridge.".
-
Scully
Don't atheists, in general, already have a bad name? I hardly think we need Dawkins' help for that.
Perhaps he's using hyperbole to show how embracing Islam would threaten the world's intellectual economy...
