In light of the above story, clearly one should avoid such corrupt practices such as the celebration of St. Valentines Day. A true christian should ask themselves, am i really practicing true love by the observance of this holiday? Or am i following the course of Capone and his demonic thugs? Clearly one would want to avoid any holiday that was celebrated or approved of by Mr. Capone and other worldlings...........

Jesika, i know how you feel. Last fri. night i spent about two hours on the phone bashing it out with my parents. (its happened before) My dad hung up on me three times. And each time i called him right back. But the third time he took it off the hook. It all started when my grandmother died last week. The funeral service was at my aunts home (she's too sick to get out much) and they denied me and my wife and child access to their house. So when i called my dad to get the time of the funeral (figured i could sit through a 30 minute propaganda talk) he told me i was not invited. I have no official label on me, but as my dad told my brother, "He's in a disfellowshipped state" basically the conversation turned into a all out debate on the authenticity of the WT. I think i probably just severed my last tie to them. BTW, what is the two eye witness rule? Hang in there, i know what its like.

They Were Just Here,, Ugh!
by dawn27 insorry i just need to vent a little bit,, after i became inactive i moved away from my home congregation and town and things were really peaceful for a while.
i even thought that i might get to avoid the february/ march elder visits as nobody knows me in my new location.
yesterday, i saw two sisters coming to the door and i didn't answer to hopefully avoid a confrontation.

dawn27, you could always try what i did. It seemed to work for me as far as the local cong. When i was seen at a funeral playing "Christendoms Songs", (by the local P.O), he called me and asked me if i still wanted to be a dub. I told him i would never be a member of an organized man made religion again!! He then asked me if i would write a letter stating this to the cong. I knew what he was up to right away, so i fired back with the response "And what will you do if i write that letter? willl you da of df me? He stammered around and said uh.....well.....yes. Then i fired again and asked him, "What is the point of having me disasociate myself, when im not associating with any of the dubs anymore? After a long pause, he drew his breath and said, well i guess thats true, i see your point. ANd so far, i havent been hassled at all. (exept for my family, who has banished me forever) But as far as i know, i have no label on me, and the only reason my family has cut me off, is because of some conversations with my brother and dad and mother on the bible.
Hope this helps. Sorry for your trouble. Seems to go with the territory.

Who Really Rules the World???
by ARoarer inremember the tract that had a picture of a big scary looking hand with a grip around the earth and the title "who really rules the world?
" i never really read all of the words in it until last night when i was looking at my mail.
my husband laughed and said you'll never guess who wrote you a letter.

Aroarer, I appreciate your points on the paralell between what satan offers, and what the WTS offers. I never really thought about it that way. I also like your point about Jesus being the very creator of the things satan offered him. The king doesnt give up his throne, only to worship another to gain it back. However, i still find it confusing that satan would make the remark, "all these things have been given to me" we know that Jesus knew everything, even in his human state. So if satan was just lying, what was the point? To tempt his humanity?

what bible is true?
by kls inas most of you know my hubby is in the jw.
cult and every morning he reads his daily text.i asked why he needed that daily dont you know how to conduct yourself from day to day?he goes on to say ..it's bible passages,i said why not read the bible..he say's this text breakes it down and makes the daily reading easier ,read it see for yourself.well i did just that i read passages in it and checked what it said to a bible.
hum o'k it matches his bible but this other bible my daughter gave me from her lutherin church it's different which one do i believe?when asking my hubby he said all bibles change some words so it's easier to understand but ,the new world translation, is the closest there is to the origional.my question what bible is right, what bible can i use to compare that he would see his is wrong.one that is non denominational that suits a certain religion.

KLS, I wouldnt worry too much about the translations. Yes, the NWT the JW's use do muddy up some key passages to fit their own doctrine, but the basic message of the bible is still there in my opinion. (Salvation in Christ only)
The King James is based on the Codex receptus manuscript dated around 3rd to 4th century, and most other versions are based on the Sinaiticus and Vitanicus manuscripts wich are the oldest to date. Certain findings like the dead sea scolls have added additional proof to the authenticity of the bible, but between the two manuscripts, i dont think theres alot of difference.
What would concern me mainly is the fact that he doesnt read the bible alone, without the WTS publications explaining it all for him. As for the translations, the only way to see what is exactly being said say for example in the New Testament, is to look at the original Greek. The WTS published a book called the "New World Translation of the Greek Scriptures" Wich shows the original greek on the left hand side of the page, and thier own New World Translation on the right. If you want to show him the difference in his translation, and another, (I would reccomend the 1901 American Std Version wich uses the name Jehovah almost 7,000 times in the old testament, that will impress him, because he probably thinks the King James is the only other bible to use the name Jehovah, and then only seven times. Hopefully you can procure a copy) sit down with the WTS book (it has a purple cover--most JW's who have been in the org for a while have one) and your bible, and compare some key passages. Like Phillipians 2:6 and Hebrews 1:8. (you'll get a good laugh from the NWT rendering) Maybe he will see how they muddy it up on some passages to confuse the message.
I wish you the best in your endeavor.

Kenneson, I think you hit the nail on the head. I totaly agree with you. A God who creates the universe and a world in it would certainly rule over it. I would hate to think of what it would be like if he didnt.(compare Dan.4:17, 25, 32,) Jesus even told Pontius Pilate that he (Pilate) would have no power at all againts him unless it had been given him from above. John said in John 3:27 "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. Rom. 13:1 "For there is no authority exept from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God."
I think Paduan was also right when he/she stated the word "World" is mis-used by the dubs. They would have you believe that Satan has complete control over the "Global World", and someday God will step in and take it from him. But i think scripture is plain that Satan only rules over the "Ungodly" and does with them as he wills.( 2Tim 2:26 ) The only scripture that would give this a problem would be where Satan showed Jesus the Kingdoms of the world and offered them to him, and said if he would bow down to him, they would be his, because they(the kingdoms) had been given to him. Perhaps Almighty God gives him limited control (although God is still sovereign), or Satan was Lying to Jesus, to appeal to his human side? I'm not sure. If anybody has any comments on this one, please elaborate. I've read different commentaries on this passage in the past, but wasnt really satisfied with any of the answers offered.
On the scripture at 2 Cor. 4:4, i think it refers to Satan, although God is said to have blinded the eyes of the unbelievers in several other places.(Isa. 6:10, Rom. 11:7,8 Ex.4:21) But maybe he does this by simply allowing Satan to sway them as he will? The reason i think this particular verse refers to the devil, is it says "...the god of this age..." This age would seem to represent the current world mind-set expressed by the ideals, opinions, goals hopes and veiws of the majority of people. Something not godly, but essentially worldly.
