Slipnslidemaster, if the various agencies in the U.S. Government's alphabet soup can deliberately plant carefully placed disinformation, or encourage accurate information to be disseminated by crackpot groups (examples: Roswell, Area 51, etc.), then what is to stop a lesser organization such as the WTBTS from engaging in the same tactics?
The Society is also notorious for pleading ignorance on specific issues while perpetuating generalities to the flock (examples: 1914, 1975) - a tactic commonly practiced by the military known as plausable deniability.
Maybe I am a "conspiracy nut", but I also believe in calling a spade a spade.

Smurfs
by Kismet inby now most of us have heard the urban legends of smurfs vs. jw's.. such as smurf dolls walking down kingdom hall aisles or strangling jw babies (replaced dingos eating them in australia lol).. the initial problem jw's had with smurfs was that on the tv show they were conjuring up spells, later more ummm "enlightened" jw viewers started questioning a community of all males with only one female (smurfette).. so jw's felt that it was not appropriate for jw children to watch shows about magic.. it is this same reasoning that has scared some away more recently rom harry potter novels and pokemon.. it was stupid when it involved smurfs and is just as stupid now.
.
but there ya have it, the main reasons (if you can call them that...) that jw's hate smurfs and developed such wild stories to enforce their opinion.. kismet

Did the elders keep secret files on us?
by XJWBill inhowdy all,.
i've recently discovered all the great ex-jw sites on the internet, and i've enjoyed reading other people's stories.
but a few passing comments in some stories have made me wonder: do or did the elders keep files on individuals in each congregation?

I know of an incident in Maine where an elder was disfellowshipped for some sort of wrongdoing. Rather than keeping the publisher's records at the Kingdom Hall, he had these documents in his home. Instead of returning the entire box of records to the body of elders, he individually mailed each record to each publisher in the file. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall of that Kingdom Hall when the publishers got to see what was being written about them over the years!

More on Prince
by Mulan ini talked to my jw friend today.
she and her husband were studied with by larry graham, in california, about 10 years ago, or more.
i asked if she knew anything about prince being a jw, and she said that their son went to visit the grahams in minnesota a year ago, and met prince at their home, and that he had been studying then, for about a year.

From the June 7, 2000 New York Daily News
"Prince's Marriage: For the Record
Prince and his on-again off- again wife, Mayte, may be officially over. The couple signed off on divorce papers three weeks ago, according to Foxnews.com columnist Roger Friedman. A Prince rep tells us: "They had their marriage annulled a long time ago. They haven't had a marriage in a traditional sense in a long time. I don't think there's anything legal happening."
Prince told us last month that Mayte "does her thing and I do mine. And sometimes we do our thing together." The pair still hit clubs together and recently shared a hotel room in Toronto."

You're right, of course, Kismet. There are plenty of virulent hate-filled ex-JW's and non-JW's around the internet too.
Just tonight, I came across an ex-JW web site which clearly states that AIDS is a scourge created by God against homosexuals. I mean, come on !! Even Jerry Falwell and Jimmy Swaggart haven't said crap like that in almost a decade! -

I live in San Francisco, California. I was disfellowshipped over 3,000 miles from here in the Virgin Islands over 21 years ago. Yet, when the JW's work the territory where my apartment is located, they will ring every bell in the building but mine. A coincidence? I think not! Although I have no way of proving it, I believe my dossier is still being kept up to date even more than two decades after my expulsion with a notation on the territory card where I live which states: "Apostate - Do Not Call".

I have a theory about how fear of demonization by the Smurfs became a worldwide phenomenon with the JW's:
I believe the Governing Body, after the 1975 debacle, felt they may be losing a degree of mental control over the flock, so they deliberately planted disinformation with District Overseers, asking them to have their immediate subordinates, the Circuit Overseers, make announcements around the world to congregations that there was no such thing as a demonized Smurf walking down the aisle of the Kingdom Hall. Utilizing this reverse psychology, knowing that word of demonized Smurfs would spread through congregations like wildfire, the Governing Body was thus able to gauge how much mind control they still held over the flock.
I believe this same practice is still being engaged in today, and probably moreso because of the availability of information on the internet exposing the JW's for what they really are. -

What do you get when you cross a Jehovah's Witness with a Unitarian Universalist?
Someone who knocks on your door but has nothing to say.

Kismet, I think you may be misinterpreting my motives in posting the hate message and later suggesting others respond to the individual who wrote it.
Initially, my reason for posting the email attack was to prove a point. Jehovah's Witnesses put on the facade of happiness and friendliness, especially when out in field service. I cannot possibly imagine a JW saying such things to my face if they came to my door. With the inception of the internet, this has given many JW's the opportunity to anonymously show their true colors. We are seeing the true condemnatory mindset of the J.W. now, and I could think of no better way to illustrate that than by posting this vicious message. I want to add, also, that this message is by no means an isolated incident. I receive such "hate mail" so frequently it surprises me.
As regards replying the author, I have no qualms about anyone taking it upon themselves to do so, especially since I forewarned the author that his message had been posted in a public forum. I agree that it will probably do little good in changing the mindset of the individual, but it may make them think twice before they hit the "send" button the next time they write such a diatribe, thus sparing another ex-JW the aggravation of receiving such junk.

Slightly off-topic, but I was wondering if anyone else heard this anecdote:
Some years ago, Leo Greenlees, while still on the Governing Body, was visiting the home of a faithful Witness woman. The "sister", as a means of entertaining Bro. Greenlees, started hammering away Kingdom Songs on her piano. After several songs, Bro. Greenlees asked her if she knew how to play Ave Maria. Aghast, the "sister" asked him why he would want to hear a song from a church of Babylon the Great. His reply: "Because it's such a lovely melody."
