Apparently no fat (sorry, overweight) folks either. Not limited to mags only - I dare you to find someone with non-marketable demographics on their official web site...

i haven't been to a meeting (other than some cousins' weddings) for well over twenty years.
i've always wondered what the fds was going to do with the "generations" thing once pretty much everybody who had been alive in 1914 is gone.
i get that they've come up with some "new light" about this topic, but when i ask my mom (who's still in) i only get "well, the new understanding is complicated...".
I remember when my wife got assigned a part on the school to cover this topic. She was in tears. She even asked me for help. I told her all I could do was show her what the current idea was and warned her not to use the Reasoning book, since it was old light. She ended up calling the school overseer and told him she couldn't do the part! It would have been kind of funny to let her do the part using the material from the reasoning book, but I did not want to see her humiliated when the overseer had to stop the part and finish it himself. It doesn't seem to bother her too much that she belongs to a religion that she can't explain what it believes/teaches.
as listed in 2013 yearbook.. yes, most countries have increases in congregations.
most of the countries that have less congregations than last year, show 1 or 2 less.
however, poland shows a dramatic 327 congregations less, from 1,814 (2011) to 1,487. netherlands, 25 less congregations.
From what I have seen here in Poland, they are not closing any halls or selling off any property. They are simply combining congregations with low attendance. In my case we had 2 congregations sharing the same hall with supposedly about 80 pubs each , but usual meeting attendance was about 50%. They said it looked bad for new ones coming to see only 40 people in the hall (not that any new ones ever came when I was there) and now it is more impressive to have a packed hall. It also helps with expenses (don't have to heat up the hall so many times per week for example). It is just reverse spin. Before , it was smaller cong's allow for more individualized help. Now, it is 'feel the love' of so many of JHVH's people in one place.
For me it was a good excuse to stop going - I can't handle being in a small room with so many people. So far, nobody has called me about it.
the wife just got back from the service meeting tonight and she is pumped!
apparently, i need to buy her an ipad for field service.
they had the demos outlined in the km and she is really excited about it.
I don't think it will go far. She has never even asked to see the 'official' jw site before. When I tried to drop some hints that it might be a good idea to keep up with the 'nu-lite' (as in GB=FDS) she didn't even bat an eye. She really is a good person. If she wasn't, I would simply walk.

@ Robert(ABibleStudent) - excellent suggestions. Thanks...

jgnat: got 404 on the link. She is not that inquisitve. I would probably need to add a shortcut/link to jw.org and that would be enough. I guess I could add a few more to 'other' sites. Would be worth the investment to get her out. Thanks...

They had the demos outlined in the KM and she is really excited about it. This is an old woman who barely knows how to use her old Nokia phone. I'm not sure how the touch screen thing is going to work for her. Usually when she wants to use the computer for any reason, I can expect pain.
this might be an unfair question for those who have been out of the organization for decades, but i'm wondering if any of you remember your earliest doubt -- maybe something odd that occurred to you as a kid (if you were a jw then).
please try to limit to two doubts at the most :-).
i think my first "doubt" was simply realizing that at the time of the flood, every animal that wasn't in the ark died (well, besides the fish, supposedly).
World wide flood in 2370. Then some time later, after Tower of Babylon incident, history as we know it began. All of Egyptian and Sumerian history compressed into about 180 years. Really?
It seemed like I would have as much success convincing someone with ANY knowledge of history that this was reasonable as I would trying to prove that WWII ended in 1995. I always hoped nobody would want to talk about it at the door and ask me if I believed that.
