I went to see my Dr about the blood card issue
by purrpurr ini booked a double appointment so that she wouldn't be rushed.
i explained that i'd been brought up in the jw's and woken up to what a load of shite it was.
i explained that they have changed the blood card and that the elders in the cong are being told to effectively force people into signing it.

Don't panic Captain Mainwaring. The Elders and HLC only have the power over you that you give them. Don't sign it. Don't talk to the elders about it. If they chase you at all it will be once or twice. Just tell them you'll sort it out. They will forget about it. Without this document the HLC can do bugger all.
It's not a bad idea to make your wishes clear in a document and conversation with your doctor but most elders don't have the time or inclination to keep track of who and who has not logged a blood card with them. Not only that but the fact the document is limited to so called primary components means loads of questions from old sisters about what they can and can't have. The elders will be glad of not being hassled by you
Remember as well this is only a document for the UK. Wording and mileage may differ elsewhere.

What do Muslims Really Think - UK Documentary
by cofty inchannel 4 have commissioned a study into attitudes among british muslims.. the documentary starts in an hour from now at 10pm.
if you watch it live or on 4od please share your thoughts.. unlike many other surveys of muslim opinion, which have predominantly been done by phone or online, icm used face-to-face, in-home research to question a representative sample of 1,000 muslims across great britain.
icm also used a “control sample” to compare what british muslims thought with the rest of the british population.. at the top-line level, the survey suggests that a mainstream british muslim majority have similar values and attitudes to the wider british public on issues such as support for british institutions and a feeling of belonging to britain.. but looking deeper into the results, a chasm develops between those muslims surveyed and the wider population on attitudes to liberal values on issues such as gender equality, homosexuality and issues relating to freedom of expression.

Divisions among ex jw activists
by Truthexplorer ini just watched a youtube discussion between marc & cora and unwitness.
it was regarding their unhappiness over a few prominent individuals in the ex jw community, one individual in particular.
this individual who on the one hand produces excellent videos highlighting wt issues, yet has been known to peeve a lot of ex jw activists off.

As far as I can see the problems really arose when the concept of a structured organisation arose (AAWA). The idea was good but trying to organise a disparate set of individuals into something with structure and hierarchy has allowed agendas to be set, alliances to be formed. conflict to appear and egos to be bruised.
As a non-activist, I respect pretty much all the people who spend time, money and mental energy producing information, videos, content and so on. Different things appeal to different people or is relevant at different times in someone's awakening. Rather than sniping at each other just live and and let live. Anything else is counter productive and smacks of childishness.

Yes they are that brainwashed.
If you live in an area that is not the same congregation as where he currently lives then it is possible for him to simply move, stop coming and fall off the radar.
If he adopts a lifestyle that is contrary to Witness standards then his sister may dob him in to the local elders but that really depends on what sort of people she and her husband are. Some people are so entrenched they will escalate the situation but others know how to play the game and know that if they want to keep the status quo then they keep their traps shut.
If he moves and his family keep quiet about whatever he chooses to do then he can successfully fade.

Hi RocketQueen.
Because it's basically a cult that uses coercive techniques to keep people within the structure.
If he were to have a girlfriend who was not a witness then eventually it would be assumed that he was sleeping with her. This constitutes "fornication" which, if practiced unrepentantly, would lead to his disfellowshipping as a person willingly committing a "gross sin". Disfellowshipped persons should not even be greeted in the street.
The organisation promotes loyalty to God and his standards (i.e. their interpretation of them) by equating loyalty to the organisation as loyalty to God. Families are put in the difficult position of having to choose association with a DFed person or risk their own status as an approved person in the organisation.
Disfellowshipping is promoted as a positive thing which can help one to want to return to the fold. Compromising on association with a DFed person is seen as undermining the disciplinary process and disloyalty to Jehovah and his organisation.
Even if your friend tries to tread a fine balance and avoid being accused of a gross sin, his behaviour would be perceived as not meeting the mark and individuals, including member of his own family, may choose to shun him or minimise their association.
Your friend can just leave and avoid contact with the Witnesses ("fade") but at some point any "sinful" actions may catch up with him and he could end up being disfellowshipped. Having said that, as a single and young person this is far more achievable than for those even more ingrained in the structure and those with families.
Hope that helps a little!

Update - Talk # 6 THE FLOOD OF NOAH’S DAY AND YOU
by ttdtt ininstead of scraping this talk they updated it.. so they still try and make this look like it happened, and that there is plenty of evidence.to do that they refer to the (w08 6/1 8) found at http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2008411the main evidence is that floods have happened in the past, including.... geologists studying the landscape of the northwestern united states believe that as many as 100 ancient catastrophic floods once washed over the area.
one such flood is said to have roared through the region with a wall of water 2,000 feet [600 m] high, traveling at 65 miles an hour [105 km/hr]—a flood of 500 cubic miles [2,000 cu km] of water, weighing more than two trillion tons.
similar findings have led other scientists to believe that a global flood is a distinct possibility.. i could not find such an event, except for remembering one of those "disaster" shows on discover about that.

I used to give this talk and the Science and The Bible one as well. I fancied myself as someone who could easily reconcile the science with the biblical accounts.
I remember also having a long conversation with a work mate about Adam and Eve and feeling very self-satisfied at how I had stood up for the Bible and used sound reasoning to bat away secular misconceptions.
When I started looking critically at things it took no time at all for the veil to be lifted. What had seemed so correct to me suddenly became ridiculous. The realisation that I had been blindly buying into such nonsense made me feel so small and stupid.
The relief when I stood down as an MS and never was asked to promote such nonsense again was huge.

I wonder if the reference in the WT has some relationship to the Missoula Floods...?

by no-zombie injust one week from the zone overseer's visit is the announcement that the magazine production by the australia branch will end in a few months.
the task being transferred to the japan branch.

So in the absence of any 100% confirmation I am still happy to accept this has the "ring of truth" about it. The model is being implemented elsewhere in the world with the SA and DE branches becoming the super branch for their continental regions.
Printing the mags in Japan maybe cheaper as I expect the number of mags needed in OZ/NZ has dropped considerably due to the use of online materials and the reduction in issue numbers. Don't forget as well that the Japan branch would be looking after the rest of the region so you get economies of scale.
Real estate in Australia, especially Sydney, has rocketed in value over the past 10 years and the opportunity to cash in on this has never been better. A smaller branch with less overheads again fits with the recent changes elsewhere. No where has anyone said the branch is actually closing.
I accept that the risk presented by the ARC is probably not the only reason this move might have been considered but I would not be so sure this is not an influencing factor. Australia has been the most high profile investigation into child abuse anywhere so far and the WTS did not look good. I think restitution for victims is a real possibility and although the WTS is a master in prolonging legal matters, I don't think they could afford to be seen to be highly resistive to this for a long time. There is also the impact on the local Witnesses to consider. Finally this could spark some serious questions about the tax status of the WTS in Australia.
Whilst all of this is a long time off in terms of legal requirements, the WTS were very quick to act when in dispute with the French authorities over tax. They shifted everything virtually overnight to the UK. We also see large amounts of money going between branches already. I spoke to a sister back in December who worked until the middle of last year in the accounts department in NY and she was quite open about the way the organisation moves funds between all sorts of organisations to reduce legal exposure.
Time will tell on the precise details but I see nothing in the premise of the OP that would be out of harmony with anything else that is going on in JW land.
