Nope. They shortened the WT by 15 mins and read the letter. There was a short video explaining the new study bible and it included the introduction to Matthew.

First thoughts on "new" meeting...
by konceptual99 inhad a quick look at the workbook and flicked through the sample meeting video.. the increased use of video shows the trend for more centralised dissemination of "best practice" .
sure there isn't really a "school" any more and the format is a bit different but i think those that called it as the same old crap just in new package got it pretty much right.

Thanks Jeff. Have you looked at the accounts published by the two main JW legal organisations in the UK?
I can repost the links if you need them but these have the breakdowns you are talking about and anyone with an accounting background should be able to discern some useful information from them.

Sad Reality...
by JW_Rogue in...is that most jws don't know anything about the financial news that is happening right now.
sure it has trickled down to the elders and those who volunteer for construction but the average jw has no idea.
no one in my hall has said a thing about it.

Yup - and now they have the buzz about the rehashed midweek meeting to occupy them.

Has anyone thought of the spin that the "society" will put on bethel layoffs?
by Lied2NoMore infirst, how about a joke?.
what do you call someone who just turned apostate?.
im thinking sometime in the future the society will put a spin on what is happening similar to what has been done in the past.. they will say apostasy once again reared its ugly head in the organization and layoffs was the only way to "cleanse" the organization.. once disgruntled ones begin to use their voice, they will be forced to strike back with some spin to make all those who have the guts to complain look like they were the problem.. good theory huh?.

It's already happening. Ones I speak with, things I see on pro-JW forums...
Many have completely discounted what has changed since the 20's, 40's, 60's - right up to the past 5 years. They simply say it only matters what is said now. Who cares about old publications? The other favourite one is "don't worry about the details, just ask yourself about the fundamentals - does God exist? Does he care? Is he going to do something?"
It's still the minority that are in the right place to ask themselves those questions and answer honestly. Few will really do anything other than answer a blind "yes" to each of the above questions.
There is plenty of covering the cracks of disillusionment with the wallpaper of cognitive dissonance going on now and it's just going to carry on.

More rumors, 500 families laid off from South African bethel.
by bohm infrom a recent reddit thread:.
i just received confirmation from a very trusted source in south africa bethel that up to 500 "families" (i imagine couples or singles) are getting let go from that branch.. also confirmed is the special pioneer cull.. what really strikes me about the layoffs is that the south african bethel provides literature and other needs for most of africa, a huge growth area for the org.. .

The build out there was progressing fast. I have an acquaintance who was there for several weeks working on the project and recently (about 6 weeks ago) came back to the UK.

JWTalk is down playing the layoffs and raising the speculation about the nearness of the end essentially. Comments basically reflect one or more of the following themes:
- Jehovah is guiding the org
- This is obviously what he wants
- Jehovah has never anyone faithful down
- Bethelites are capable people and will find work for for their new assignments no problem
- The work is speeding up
- The chariot is warp factor 10 Mr. Sulu
- Stop worrying. Stop complaining. Sit down. Shut the **** up
- It OK to get a little about aroused about Armageddon
Sure - I made the last one up but it's fair to say that chucking out hundreds of people who expected a full time career in catered care is actually generating excitement.
