  well, our sister congregation just had their co visit this past week.

  on saturday afternoon, i was talking to a couple of ministerial servants in that congregation and they stated that an unmarried brother is not fulfilling to the max what jehovah wants of us.

  they stated that the co went on a tirade that if you are unmarried you are being selfish and not following what jehovah wanted for mankind since he created eve as a compliment for the man.

  Local Elders whip the Congregation into a frenzy about donating to the Organization

  because of the may broadcast about how funds are down, our elders have been in their talks "encouraging" or pressuring everyone to donate more to the world wide work.. it freaks me out how we already give them a set amount of $600 a month, plus what is contributed by the congregation(usually $400 to $500 a month).

  heck, our local congregation bank account even got below $500 for the first time this past may since i have been doing the accounts(4 years now).

  for june, we raised a whopping $2400 to send into the branch.. the most amazing part, is that only a select few contribute on a regular basis every month.

  Our congregation has had this as well over the past few weeks. Just one week ago there was a resolution, after handing out "pledge" slips a couple of weeks before, to reduce the monthly figure paid by 40% as the congregation was no where near having 3 months funds on hand. There were also local needs about basically putting less in the WWW and more in the local cong box.

  I have never heard so many talks about the need for funds as since the org supposedly "cancelled" the loan for our hall build.

  Amazing. Jehovah's organisation accomplishes something that never happens in the world. Imagine being able to arrange for the erection of some display arrays and line array audio. Truly the organisation is blessed. I expect all the stadium filling bands and artists are looking on in awe and wonder at how they might be able accomplish something even close to this, I hear a delegation of the tour managers representing U2, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Beyonce, Muse and some other global superstars attended to get some ideas on what they could do for the stage sets for their artists' respective tours. The only problem for them is cost. After all they have to pay roadies and production staff.

  so, i left about 5 years ago and at that time, the official ruling on number of members was a little over 6 million.

  i google jw out of boredom the other day and find they are now claiming 8 million members.

  sooooo.... hold on 2 million increase in 5 years?

  I don't think the WTS fabricate the figures directly however we all know that a proportion of the hours done and publications placed are completely made up by a number of those submitted their monthly report.

  Of course, the WTS do apply artistic licence to how they categorise and present figures...

  I agree that questioning the underlying faith (or lack of it) is of importance and that this cannot be quantified and therefore visualised, however I think that the graphs do have several important purposes.

  They do show clear trends for any that wish to argue that the WTS has enjoyed unbridled growth. They expose the cherry picked figures that the WTS bring up (e.g. number of publications, number of hours, numbers baptised each day) and bring context to these. For anyone starting to wake up they provide compelling evidence that not all is hunkydory in WT land. In addition they provide support for hypothesis about the reasons for the less than altruistic actions of the WTS in asset grabbing.

  Unquestionably there are more Witnesses now than 5, 10, 20 years ago but the statistics show worrying trends, not least the number of hours required to get just one baptism.

  Dear Joel,

  i wish you all the best with this. There are some factors you need to take into account.

  Firstly, the only people you will be able to get to talk to you and say anything critical about the WTS will be those that are out of the organisation. The WTS will do anything to discredit their testimony. On top of that any critical comment is branded apostate lies and the vast majority of those inside the organisation will do the equivalent of stick their fingers in their ears and shout "we can't hear you".

  If the WTS do condescend to talk to you they will send a PR and media trained lackey who will be the master of spin and double speak. The WTS position on their child abuse policy is that it is 100% sound, anyone can go to the authorities and the Congregation never has systematically covered anything up.

  They will spin the term "minister". They will discredit their own members who have committed abuse. They will flip flop between statements about the top down "follow my leader" nature of the organisation and the apparent personal nature of an individual's responsibilities and accountability in the organisation.

  They will never engage in any kind of open or productive spirit. They will never admit any organisational responsibility. They will hang the minions out to dry.

  I would suggest lurking on a certain JW friendly forum and checking out the statements about those that have stood up to the WTS on this matter. PM me for details on how to get full access.

  i would also suggest getting in touch with lawyers who have spent a lot of time fighting the WTS in court on behalf of anise victims to get more details on the "theocratic warfare" strategies that will be used against you.

  I would encourage you to become an expert in what objections might be thrown up to discredit ones you may use and don't be afraid to confront these head on. For example the current favourite is to sling mud at the victim or the parents for not going to the authorities. The passive-aggressive, socio-cultural pressures put on people over the years to not have the org dragged through the mud are immense and completely swept under the carpet.

  You are taking on one of the most sneaky, self-serving and deceptive organisations possible with this. Except every thing a victim claims to be ripped to shreds and plan accordingly.

  God Answers the Prayers of the Earring Hunters

  just a small anecdote from the meeting last night.. in the item interviewing a couple of older, long standing ones, one of the sisters was asked how jehovah had answered her prayers.

  her response was "in lots of ways but it's the little ways i think of the most.

  for example, when i am rushing to get ready for the meeting and putting my earrings in and i drop the butterfly clip on the floor and cannot find it.
