Last nights CLAM meeting
by dbq407 inso hadn't been to a clam meeting in quite a few months, but went last night.
so we learned that gog of magog is not satan as previously believed.
they used a few scriptures that made it clear that it couldn't be satan and that it would be a coalition of nations.

in retrospect: RBCs vs LDCs / the hype about a lot of new construction and subsequent abrupt halt to construction
by Magnum inso, now that some time has passed, i’d like some input/thoughts/analysis/etc.
on the jw construction situation in the last few years.. first, why did they discontinue the rbc arrangement and institute the ldc arrangement?
was it for more and/or better control?

I wonder if we will ever know if the presentation and especially that slide were deliberate lies from the WTS or if they simply had been lead by their bollocks a bit too much and then realised that there was a plan B?
Pure speculation but I wonder if there was in fact some voices promoting the current downsize, money grab etc but they had been shouted down by the GB (esp AM3) following the old school hubris? Then there was some big issue with cash and the accountants/consultants/forward thinkers got their way.

Apostasy: The Movie - Directed by Daniel Kokotajlo
by darkspilver indaniel kokotajlo's new film apostasy has it's world premiere at the toronto international film festival in september 2017. apostasy.
family and faith come into conflict for two jehovah’s witness sisters in manchester, when one is condemned for fornication and the other pressured to shun her sibling.. this fresh, unadorned first feature from director dan kokotajlo carries an unmistakable note of authenticity from its very first scenes.
set in a jehovah's witness community in england, the film's strength and power lies in its directness.. apostasy depicts the growing rift in a family — a mother and two daughters — who are rigorously devoted to their religion.

Given the BFI and BBC Films support I would not be surprised to see this on the BBC or possibly Channel 4 at some point, especially if it has limited cinema exposure.

To be fair trustees appear not to be rewarded in any way apart from Street cred with JWs.
Another get rich quick company conjured up by some rich JW.
Trustees of a charity cannot profit from the charity. They can claim reasonable expenses but all of this is open to review by the Charities Commission and has to be audited.
Of course employees of the charity can be paid whatever the trustees agree so someone somewhere will be earning but for the reasons above and in my previous post the care home sector is not the path to instant riches it once was.

For a nation of 8 million residents a half a dozen nursing homes don't care for the old sheep.
That's because they are not cheap even though it's a charitable NFP organisation. Many older Witnesses simply don't have the funds to pay for the care so end up relying on social care provided by the state.
Also, even though they do claim to support conditions like dementia the overall provision is care and not nursing. This means that residents must be able to perform certain activities themselves however many older people have requirements that go beyond care and need support from trained nursing professionals. Thanks to the WTS discouraging the education nursing professionals now need there is little hope that the pioneer they give a job to has any professional qualifications at all and is just good for doling out lunch and dinner.
The cynic in me also suspects that the poor support given to the care sector now from the public purse means care homes are no longer the cash cow they once were, especially given that the prospective customer base is not the most cash rich group around therefore large expansion of the group of homes is simply not cost effective.
Also, the care home sector here is propped up by labour from abroad, especially eastern Europe and S.E. Asia. The use of JWs only limits the labour base that can be drawn from, further complicating the business model.

The WTS will outlive me even if I lived until 2080.
They may have less and less over time but there are plenty enough people and assets to keep them going a good, long while.
I don't even see the continued absence of Armageddon stopping them. They will find a way of explaining it away and human psychology will keep people bound to them.
The only hope is that more people will be brave enough to explore their doubts. There might be a critical mass of scandal around child abuse but even then the organisation has enough of a hold to keep people bound to them for years.

How Long it will take to the GB change the interpretation of the Beast as the UN?
by Ray Frankz ini just realized now, (ironically by checking on jw.org) that the echr (european court of human rights), the government agency that has been literally saving the jws to be banned in so many countries - and they are very thankful for that, as they say in their recent purple history book - is an agency of the un!.
as it is well known, the gb consider the un as a high-class enemy of god's kingdom, believing it is the beast mentioned in revelation.
this interpretation was totally from f. franz and n. knorr, this last one still being reagarded every now and then as the one who gave the speech with this "new light".

My bet is that they will steer clear of trying to interpret more and more prophecy. They've been burnt so many times and enough people are happy with doing carts, going happy clappy and watching JW Boredcasting....

Do You Think Jehovah's Witnesses Are Typically Ignorant People?
by minimus ini think most witnesses are simple minded.many are ignorant.
there are a lot of basically "good people "in the religion but i believe many are kind of dumb, including many elders.
do you agree with my thoughts??

There are Witnesses with all levels of intellectual capability. Some are genuinely thick but most aren't even if they are not highly educated or even academic.
Plenty of Witnesses have well paid, white collar jobs that are far from menial roles. Plenty have good businesses. I have know plenty enough who read lots, are interested in the arts and culture, have a reasonable knowledge the sciences and so on.
What most mentally in Witnesses lack however is the willingness to question and investigate beyond the boundaries set by the WTS. For some this is an intellectual challenge for others it's the application of cognitive dissonance.
For example, a Witness may have an interest in the sciences and the intellectual capability to understand some complex aspects of physics, chemistry and biology yet simply discards all the material that presents a worldview contrary to the simplistic world of the Bible. They are conditioned to replace nagging questions with an approach of "leaving it to Jehovah". What's worse is some go further and employ pseudo intellectual nonsense to make it seem like they employed critical thinking skills and are not simply dismissing things without serious thought.
This can be considered "wilful ignorance" but for most it's simply cult conditioning that they really don't question. Like an addicted alcoholic they don't realise they have a problem and it's only when they wake up to that fact that they then make the choice to remain wilfully ignorant or seek to change their behaviour when confronted with information contrary to their JW viewpoint.
