  AUSTRALIA - All large JW Regional Conventions cancelled for 2015

  now we know why the governing body of jehovah's witnesses cancelled all the major regional conventions of jehovah's witnesses for 2015 and are only holding smaller conventions at the jw assembly halls.

  "imitate jesus" convention series australia schedule .

  interestingly the first round of regional conventions are due this weekend in the jw assembly halls in sydney (new south wales), melbourne (victoria), and brisbane (queensland).

  RCs in assembly halls has been predicted by many on here, especially once the move to 2 x 1 day CA events took place. Large RCs might be money spinners but they also cost big. Assembly halls are often debt free and overheads fairly minimal. I bet they have done the calcs and worked out they stand to make more through higher occupancy at the assembly halls.

  The move in Australia may have additional side benefits with respect to the timing of the current enquiry but I think the primary cause is cash and not the Royal Commission. Don't forget as well that the trek to the international convention last year was not well received if my information from friends down under is correct.

  That would be Chris Jones. He still lives there and has done since day one. Shortish, round face... Rossiter is tall and slim with thin features.

  Nothing. It's being used. I did hear a very unsubstantiated rumour that the WTS was looking to sell it but I have taken that one with a massive pinch of salt and dismissed it for the time being.

  Hey WMF - of course, Rossiter was the co-manager of Haysbridge along with Chris Jones. I'd completely forgotten that. Were they both in Horley cong? I know Chris and Judy Jones lived on site in the cottage attached to the hall but I am not sure about Rossiter (what's his first name btw). I know people related to Chris Jones so I might be able to dig around a bit over the next few weeks.

  Neither have I but I found out about this from ones in a neighbouring congregation and apparently the reasons given by the CO were crystal clear.

  I am still interested to know if this is correct as it is a very unusual situation hence why I would like it clarified if possible.

  The COBE was a guy called Rossiter (sp?) who is well known in the Surrey/Sussex areas, not least for being incredibly camp, although he is married. Very judgemental chap. He recently gave a talk at the Brighton RC.

  Can anyone provide any more information on this? Are the reasons for the disbandment of the congregation correct as I have stated?

  I have mixed feelings about this. I think the level of detail and the transparency of the RC provides significant open information that can be used to educate and inform Witnesses but there is still alot of ignorance about the whole process.

  I have mentioned it to several people now and not one person knew about it. All expressed genuine surprise at the number of cases but I did not get any particularly strong opinions coming back of disgust, dismay or even wanting to find out more.

  I think more publicity here in the UK would help but I suspect we are going to have to wait until the findings of the RC are published and the Australian branch responds to get something that can engender real discussion amongst R&F over here.

  I in no way wish to intimate support for the current process or claim that the cultural and social barriers to people speaking freely are not there. I agree that many of us will have first hand experience of situations where social exclusion, judgemental attitudes and sustained injustice have been perpetrated. On that point, it's very gratifying to see the RC getting under the skin of the published processes and examining what the reality is in terms of how things are actually implemented and what the experience for the victim actually is.

  I am just wondering however if there are situations that have to come to light through places like this site where people have first hand experience of being disfellowshipped for going to the authorities about child abuse. If this was the case, especially if this was in the relatively recent past, then any such exposure in a formal enquiry similar to the Royal Commission or through the media could be highly embarrassing to the WTS.

  I've never come across such a situation but would love to know if there are such cases.

  As a side point, are there reasons why the cases of unreported abuse you know about remain unreported? Are you or others you know in a position to support the victims in making a report now?
