actually, paying for kingdom halls is one of the most lucrative scams the WT has going!
They require the congregations to purchase the property outright, first. Then they "loan" the money for Kingdom Hall construction to the congregation, then take the money BACK and spend it on construction materials, etc, through the local building committee. As the final kicker, they then require that the hall be signed OVER to the Society. So the congregation winds up paying on a loan for a building that they don't even own!
Yep, that Jehovah, he sure know how to stick it to his people, don't he?
CZAR
This is 100% accurate. As a newbie elder working on a quick build for the congregation I was in, I was shocked at this. The local bank whom we had our checking and savings account with had a special offer for churchs and other non-profit organizations. When we as an elder body brought this up with the CO, holy shi* did he have a fit! So we finally bought the land, got the loan from the Society (they charged us interest) and worked with the regional building commitee to build a windowless piece of crap of a building. BTW, I guess the Society has caught some major grief for the "typical" interest it was charging congregations, so they have lowered it but they still charge interest. For some reason I just can't picture Jesus charging Peter interest if he need to borrow some money.

LOL. Yeah, I did notice that. Think my kids would take it seriously? Nah! There goes my 13-year old thinking nothing can hurt him. Geez, were we like that once? What the heck were you doing climbing with a busted up body like that? And I thought my extra 20 pounds of er..flesh...was a handicap.

Kids and I just got back from Mexico. Here they are in front of a Myan temple we visited. I just love their "Oh great, dad wants to take another picture of us" expression. :)

I cannot believe America has been so up in arms about seeing half a tit. You are fine about bombing the crap out of half the world and letting your kids see Rambo or Zombie flesh eaters and get all prudish when a girl show's her breast.
Unbelievable. Get a life!
America is about choice, while most other nations are use to having things force feed to them. If you chose to let your kids watch Rambo or Zombie flesh eaters, fine, that's your choice. Cable tv is full of it and I know plenty of parents who allow their kids to see whatever they want. On the other hand, I know plenty of other parents who don't let their kids what that kind of stuff. What the uproar is about is not being given the choice. When people are watching the Super Bowl on "public" tv during prime tv, you don't expect to see nudity. That "choice" is taken away when someone, such as Janet Jackson, decides that she's going to break the rules. Personally, there are more dangerous things that face my 13-year old son but I do feel a bit pissed that I now have to wonder what's going to happen during the next Super Bowl half time show.

Hoping The Meeting is Cancelled
by roybatty ini'm sitting here at home in front the fire place, looking outside watching watching the snow fall.
not a blizzard but a pretty good snow fall for north-central illinois.
it feels great being at home on an evening like this, relaxing.

I remember when there'd be just a little snowfall here, and the meeting would be less than half full. It seems like a lot of JW's where I went were looking for a reason to "feel great being home on an evening like that, relaxing".
That's what I can't understand, why are people doing something (with no end in sight) that they wish they could get out of?????? The longer I'm away from it, the harder it is to understand.
