  Here are two examples as to the results when the US i ntervenes: In Korean War the US succeeded in stopping the communists from invading the south. The results? The north became and has remained a third world nation with it's people living in misery while south Korea is an economic power-house with a very high standard of living. In the Vietnam War the US failed to stop the communists from conquering the south. The result? The GNP of Vietnam and the standard of living of it's citizens went down the crapper after the south fell and Vietnam has been a third world shit-hold place of a country. I'm not even going to go into what the US did during WWII because that goes without saying the sacrifices made for other nations.

  Is the US perfect? Nope. But before you imply that the USA as a selfish, war-monger nation think about the conflicts we have been in. Do you know what the countries in the middle-east really fear about the US going to war with Iraq? They worry that a democracy will be set up and this spirit of freedom will spread to other countries in the region.

  Oh yeah, my pic. Um....let's see...oh yeah, I'm riding my motorcycle along with someone else on back. I believe I was sticking my tongue out because the person taking the picture was nagging me about not having a helmet. Talk about a bad attitude :)

  hey greven, nice pic. My 11 year old son introduced me to the world of Starcraft and just about every night we're playing against each other. Kind of like chess but a bit more complicated. I never thought an 11 year old could be so good at strategy.

  several days ago i posted a topic about how the newly reinstated could be disfellowshipped again for failing to attend meetings or particiapte in field service.

  (this was based on the issue of lacking works that befit repentance.

  ) i used cautionary language about how this ""can"" happen, but was accused of making "dogmatic assertions" and that the organization book and the flock book never authorize such, and most of all the s-77 form sent into the society would trigger a co visit were it to state such things.

  O.K. ....ANYTHING could happen

  So true. It amazed me when I was an elder just how much power one had over the individual lives in the congregation. I know that statement doesn't come as a surprise but it was equally amazing just how many times the elders simply didn't follow the Society's rules and just made up things as they went.

  When I was called before a JC for apostacy (I joined the local YMCA) the 3 brothers turned to the Question From Readers article in the January 1, 1981 WT and basically used it as a guide. This was a big "no-no" because the Society always stated that the local elders, not the boys in Brooklyn, were giving the individual the boot. I just laughed to myself because two of the guys had been serving as elders for some 20 years each and should have known better. They should have also known that this meeting wasn't needed because by joining the Y I had basically DA'd myself. But I just wanted to mess around with them (which was a blast).

  Now at the appeal meeting, those brothers whom the CO had appointed, knew what they were doing. They used only the Bible (and the Society's twisted reasoning) to establish that I was an apostate. They even made the comment that I wasn't df'd but rather Da'd and that this meeting wasn't even needed (DUH!). The second meeting was also fun but I enjoyed play mind games with the stupid elders even more. Jeez, so many of these guys just don't have a clue on the rules of the game.

  It's been awhile, PLEASE HELP

  As someone who went through a divorce (ex-wife is die hard JW) I would suggest getting the best lawyer you can afford. It will make a HUGE difference. Also, don't fight in court about the JW stuff. The court doesn't give a rat's ass what religion your wife belongs to. However, I would strongly suggest that you spell everything out in your divorce settlement. Not just money and visitation but also the blood issue and others. I'd also have a statement in there saying that neither of you can make a d isparaging remark about the other to the kids. This can help curtail some of the JW teachings about apostates.

  Just my two cents.

  i know this seems like a touchy subject, but i have to post this!!.

  when i was younger, only 11, i and also my mother and two sisters, whom my .

  mother and one sister is still in the or., anyway, we all saw on several occasions.

  You do bring up a valid point. But again, what is the purpose of a demon bothering one individual? If the demons want to cause chaos then why not do it in a public fashion? Can you imagine the chaos if a demon appeared during the Super Bowl and scared the hell out of the 100,000 people there? My mother shared a ghost story with me. One night, when she was a teenager, she got up to go to the bathroom. She lived in a huge house and had to walk quite a distance to the bathroom, including going through the dining room. As she walked through the dining room she saw a ghost of her grandfather, sitting in the chair, reading the paper. Her "grandfather" turned, looked at her, smiled and then went back to reading his paper. Ok, cool. Nice story. She swears that it happened. But Im like "why would a demon/spirit/angel appear as her dead grandfather"? Also, why doesnt it happen all the time and to anybody that I know?

  Regarding good verses evil, I do believe that there are forces at work for either side. Ive come to the conclusion that "God" isnt All Powerful and that "Satan" is more powerful then most believe. I also believe that these two beings use people and organizations to promote their agenda. Thus, I feel its even more important to do good in this world and fight evil.

  Salud, take it easy. Geez, like I said in my second post, I'm only teasing. Am I not allowed to express my skepticism in a humorous way? My point is why would demons go around pretending to be ghosts of dead people? Why? If this is the way demons have fun why doesn't it happen to more people? I'm not sure if I believe in demons as explained by the JWs because I believe the WT uses them as another method to scare and control people. However, I do believe in "evil" and that there are forces for both good and evil that are at odds with each other.

  Also, isn't it possible that one's imagination was simply playing tricks on them?

  Good post Amazing. I'd have to state that of all the ways an elder is "taught" or told what to do, the CO has the most influence. Though I was only an elder for a short period of time, it amazed me how much power the CO had over the body. I cannot recall one instance when a CO "recommened" something and the elder body decided to do it a differnt way. But on the other hand, when things got a bit sticky, the CO pretty much washed his hands of the matter and let the local elders take the fall. Hmmm....very much like the mafia indeed.

  Hey Christy, thanks for taking my post the right way. My Dutch grandparents (along with their kids)spent several years in Indonesia and have dozens of demon stories. Maybe they're true, maybe they're not. And then there are the JW "urban legend" stories. Again, maybe true, maybe not. My thinking, after hearing each new story, was always "WHY?" Is that the best thing a 10,000 year old demon can do? Make things float around or immitate some dead person? C'mon, people have great imaginations and that's all these stories are.
