hi everyone, i was born and raised in toledo ohio, jackman congregation and also elmore congregation, and also lived in palatine congregation area in illinois, as well as attended the burbank congregation in burbank il.

Interesting. I barely remember him. Geez, I think I last saw Mark about 15 or more years ago. My father owned a company in Villa Park and Mark worked for him. Ah, now that you mention it - Titus, is that Mark's brother? Isn't he a taller guy, glasses and bald? I recall meeting him during one of the conventions and then working with him on a Kingdom Hall project. He was/is a bit of a self-righteous ass. Did you happen to know Dave & Kathy baugh (sp?) or George & Ersula Radenmacher?

DID YOU EVER LEARN anything because you were a JW?

was there ever anything positive from being a witness?

Actually, yeah, there were a few things that I learned. Because I did the accounts for so many years, I learned a pretty good system to system for taking care of my finances. Before the "new" donation method, the accounts were a bit more complex and difficult to manage. It was some good experience handling them. Also (as someone else mentioned) because of having to give so many talks preparing for and speaking in public is a breeze. Oh, and being involved in a Kingdom Hall building project was a good experience in organizing and managing dozens of people and a large project.

I also learned a LOT about human nature. I learned that many people will believe some thing, no matter how ridiculous, if its repeated over and over again by individuals who seem to be intelligent.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ELDERS AND OTHERS

elders have the right to talk to disfellowshipped ones.

the average jw can't.

elders can call you for a judicial meeting and charge you with anything.

I take exception with your statement that most elders participated in covering up pedophiles. While I agree that many elders are a-holes, I don't think most covered up this problem. Perhaps most who were involved in a case involving a sicko but I don't believe most elders ever were involved in such a case.

Going Back

last week we had a thread asking "did you ever feel like going back (to the borg)?

in times of doubt, there's always a tendency to wonder whether you've done the "right thing".

in such times, the past can be looked upon with "rose-coloured glasses", remembering only the good times.

When I look back at my time spent as a JW I see some things in common with those I read about who are in a abusive relationship. I'll read in the newspaper about a poor wife getting beat up and treated like crap but will never press charges against her husband or leave him. Or, if she does, she ends up going back to him only to be treated worse.

Many JWs do the same thing. They'll even admit that the Organization has some major problems but what do they always say? "Where else will we go?" Or if they do leave, they end up going back, returning to that "abusive" partner.

I'm not sure exactly why some go back. Perhaps just as an abused wife will cave into the threats of her husband, many JWs give into the threats of the Society. It's mind blowing that people even consider going back but having gone through this I now better appreciate the difficulites that others go through.

i just saw a dub at lunch time, in manhattan, on a busy street, looking like a human magazine rack.. .

my question is, did you ever get embarrased standing in such a public place?

Larry, I remember hearing that same comment about field service being "unnatural" but that we do it for Jehovah. I think one "brother" added the comment that it was "unnatrual" for the Israelites to become soldiers and kill but that they did this for Jehovah. I wonder if King David was embarassed when he killed his "tens of thousands"?

These were my most embarassing....

#3. Being in grade school and having to leave class and sit in the library by myself while the other kids had a b-day party. Jeez, the teachers even felt embarassed for me.

#2. Working train stations. UG! Busy people pissed off because they have to go to work and there I am asking them if they want a WatchTower magazine. Geez!

#1. Having to go door to door on my own street!!! Actually happened a couple of times. OMG! The second time I was 13 or 14 years old and the brother in the car group decided that this was the street we were going to do and he didn't care who lived there. You should have seen the looks I got from the kids who lived next door. Then all of the kids on the street went out side and started following us to each door, giggling and laughing. If that's not child abuse, I don't know what is.

Thanks for the spelling lesson Reborn. I'll make a note of that. I really need to spell check my posts better. :)

Regarding the Packers and why they suck. Reason one, they're from Wisconsin. Reason two, Packer fans wear those stupid cheese-heads and think they're sooo funny. Reason three, they're from Wisconsin. Comparing the Packers to the Bears, who had the greatest team of all time? Da Bears. The '85 Bears are the greatest of all time.

I will admit (even to my 11-year old son who's an apostate Packers fan) that if the Packers can get Terry Glenn (sp?) to show up, they might have a shot at scoring against my deloved Bears.
