Letting JW relatives go....revisited
by MegaDude insome of you might remember i posted my thoughts on why, after years of shunning, and me continually trying to establish contact with the jw relatives that do this, i finally decided it was healthier for me to let them go and stop doing that.
this was especially true in the case of my younger brother, who was more like a best friend.
we spent a lot of time together before my extricating myself from the watchtower, including vacations and lots of weekends.

Wow, I felt like I was reading about my own experience! One thing that I've tossed around in my head is whether or not to write them a good-bye letter. Kinda just stating "hey, the door is always open but I'm moving on" type of thing. Anyone ever done that?

You Know admits his god is weak!
by ozziepost inin a strong statement of faith on another thread, our regular poster and self-appointed chief wts apologist gave this description of the god of jehovah's witnesses:.
the controversy is between jehovah and satan.. that will satisfy satan's acusations that jehovah has put a protective hedge around us .
so the god he worships is on an equal footing with a created being?

You Know,
Been there, done that. I respect your right to believe what you want to believe but I just don't buy into it anymore.
I cannot even imagine Almighty God allowing a lowly creature to question His right to rule. Imagine you were a pre-school teacher, with a class room full of 5 year old kids. It's nap time and one bold child says "No, it's not nap time. I think that you are wrong and that the children of this classroom would be better off deciding for themselves if they wish to take a nap!" No sane adult would allow this! And the gap between an adult human to a child is nothing in comparison to that of God to Satan. It is not logical for God to allow this.
The book of Job is just an account of a faithful man. Plain and simple. Kind of a side point but as I've re-read that account from time to time, I've wondered a couple of things as I've gotton away from believing what I was told to believe by the Society. One, where exactly did Satan enter into when he strolled in with the other angels. And two, throughout the account, God himself mentions that He was the source of Job's troubles. I wonder why He stated this? -

The whole issue of “universal sovereignty” was one that I just never completely understood, even when I was giving public talks on the topic. I mean, supposedly here is Almighty God allowing Satan to kill billions of people (let alone the thousands or millions of angels he ensnared) all because He’s worried that angels will question His right to rule? Yeah, right.
When I tell my 11 year old son and 8 year old daughter to do something, like wear their coats outside because it’s cold, it’s a given that they will question my decision. Why? Because they lack the experience that comes with age. Would I care if their friends questioned my right to tell my kids what to do? No. I believe the same comparison can be made to God and His dealings with us. The “universal sovereignty” issue has no bases in the Bible and can only be defended by misapplying the book of Job and other passages that don't even mention the phrase. -

I did notice one thing about many JW's, that they jump onto the latest money-making bandwagon. For example, the selling of over priced crap out of your house or many individuals I knew were selling some phone service. It seems that they use the excuse "oh, I'd like to be a pioneer so that's why I do this." Yeah, right. All that they are doing is using the people that they know.

I didn't go to college. . .
by ninjaturtle inbecause i listened to the dumb elders who suggested i stay away from college, now i'm broke and unhappy.
i need money and direction.. can anyone suggest a few short courses i can take so as to find a job easy and quick?

That's one thing that I'm glad I didn't listen to the Society about. A degree isn't everything but in the professional world, without one you'll hit a brick wall.

Ooooo..why not a better tactic? Have half of the JWs believing in 1914 and the other half believing in 1925? Wow, that would have been great!
So what you're basically saying is that Satan was able to check God's hand, feed God's people false information and have ALL of them believing for the better part of a century in a completely false doctrine?

What about 1925? Why didn't Satan cause another WW and have them also stuck on that date? LOL.

# of weekly meetings-down to 2?
by Quandary inwe recently had the visit of the co, during the elders meeting he addressed his concern over the decline in meeting attendance, especially for the tms & sm.
our particular congregation saw a decline of 30% from his last visit 6 months ago.
in a private conversation with him i asked if our congregation was unique in this regard and he said no, some congregations have seen a much higher percentage of decline, 50-60%.

I just had this memory. When I was an elder and had to call those in my bookstudy informing that the meeting was cancelled, I could almost hear the joy in many of their voices.
Why do people put themselves through this???

Ozzie,
Do they have a pic of his work on the web site? I didn't see one there.
If you're ever in the States and enjoy art, you have to check out the Art Institute of Chicago. One of the best around.
